Now, after watching the performer’s last album top the Billboard 200 last year, the Urban star maker has showered praise on ‘Baby I‘ singer Ariana Grande, hailing her….the new Mariah Carey.

Coming after Grande addressed comparisons to the icon here, Troy’s remark also arrives hours after it emerged the star is to top the Billboard 200 with here new album ‘Yours Truly’ next week, as is explained here.
While we’ve interpreted Troy’s tweet as a compliment to both, there are some (namely Mimi’s Lambs) who may take offence to it, considering some see Ariana’s cause as a direct rip off of Mariah’s.
Indeed, in an industry filled with the fickle, Mariah does have a problem on her hands if ‘The Art of Letting Go‘ tanks, giving the casual listener ample reason to see her as being ‘over’.
Problematic, as its the same casual listener being fed the agenda that Ariana is her younger, fresher and far more relatable replacement, armed with an album that could have easily been Mariah’s and a vocal stylings that actually are Mariah’s.

I really like Ariana. She’s got a great voice and her album is solid! I don’t see any reason to compare her to Mariah. They’re not each other’s peers. Mariah comes from an era that birthed superstars that have influenced the music/artists of today. It’s almost insulting to compare her to someone that’s just starting out. Mariah is way to accomplished for this foolery.
Ariana definitely one of the most spectacular singers in the industry right now. I think we really needed someone like her that don’t have something else being played up more than her talent.
