As her British fans head to iTunes to purchase the LP in their thousands, Lady GaGa‘s ‘ARTPOP’ now gears up to dominate the US market in ways that’ll give consumers no choice but to acknowledge its Interscope driven arrival tomorrow morning.

When its US stores open up tomorrow morning, Erling Persson‘s H&M will house copies of the new album, selling them for $9.95, three days before GaGa hits NYC to meet fans at the grand opening of the chain’s new NYC store.
Quite interestingly, copies of the album sold by H&M will not be replenished and its sales will not count towards its overall Billboard 200 chart positioning, as the company does not report to Soundscan– meaning the LP is still on course to shift anywhere between 300,000 to 350,000 by the end of its launch week!
GaGa’s unique new deal with the company comes one year after Papa John’s Pizza teamed up with Taylor Swift for a venture which saw their customers given the opportunity to purchase her latest album ‘Red’ alongside their pizzas, as is explained here.

I wonder why Lady Gaga has lost the novelty that, in the past, has allowed her to go platinum in a week. Is it because music consumers of today, or more specifically the her audience, which is most probably young people, have shorter attention spans, and it is therefore becoming harder to keep their attention and “wow” them?
I don’t know, but I do know that success in terms of numbers is becoming more and more fleeting, with only a few acts still pushing gargantuan figures. And these acts, most notably the Jay-Zs and Eminems of the music world, are some of the only ones still selling half-million or more during their first week. Are their audiences older, and does age play a part in whether you actually go out and purchase music?
The only other female I see an extremely large number of albums her first week is Adele. When she comes back out I see the hype fueling her sales. And maybe Beyonce. But s***, nxggas aren’t buying music anymore. So in essence I can’t really fault people for pulling out all the stops and gimmicks they can. Simply because their position in the industry is so heavily determined by how many people go out and by their CD within the first 7 days of its release.
It’s because her hype has died with her music cuz of other artists getting their moment. It happens to a lot of celebs at some point. Not just Gaga. Regardless300-350k is still quite solid and better than Miley Britney and Katy will ever do these days. It means a lot are still here for her.
Because she’s also getting almost no promo from her label…
