Despite efforts made by Pop royals Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez, R&B siren Beyonce reigns supreme once again today, after her latest album was named the highest-selling R&B/Hip Hop in the US this year, thus far.

How she and Pharrell Williams can call themselves the genre’s undisputed market leaders?

Find out below…

Dropping out of thin air on December 13th of last year, Beyonce’s ‘Beyonce’ has moved an impressive 702,000 units between the January and July of this year, making it the highest selling R&B/Hip Hop LP of the year thus far, coming in at #1 on Billboard’s  ‘Top 10 Selling R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.’

On Pharrell’s successful year, the publication explains:

“GIRL” spawned the year’s top R&B/Hip-Hop digital song, “Happy,” which has sold over 5.6 million downloads and spent 12 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Williams is nearly 1.8 million downloads ahead of the second biggest R&B/hip-hop seller, John Legend’s “All Of Me,” (3.9 million). “Happy” currently stands as the top-selling digital song of 2014 across all genres.

    No competitions….wait for Adele.

  11. Unbiased July 5, 2014

Congrats!! No they are correct Bey and Pharrell. But, tbh Pharrell’s album should have sold way more. I mean Happy did 10 million WW. Still better than Robin Thicke with Blurred Lines though.

  12. Molly July 5, 2014

Pharrell owned this year along with Iggy…

    • Did Ya say Justin Bieber,Beyoncè,Miley,Lady Gaga,One Direction,Rita Ora,Sam Smith,Lil Kim or Austin Mahone? July 5, 2014

      you are a k** backet

  13. Yours Truly July 5, 2014

Sad that she’s the only black female artist that can go double platinum in the US. Even more impressive that she hasn’t done promo & is actually pushing this album with no hot 100 #1. Plus the sound of BEYONCE is very urban I didn’t expect this sales tbh. I predicted her to stale in Platinum maybe 1,3M US. Wow

  14. Unbiased July 5, 2014

Lol I love how people mention Adele instead of their own fave. She is you guys great white hope. I love Adele, but her success has no affect on Beyonce, Rihanna, etc. I mean she sold all those albums and was no where on the Forbes list, idgi.

  15. BeyHive Army July 5, 2014

Now all my all my all my b!tches rub ya titties (if ya love Biggie) And all my n***** grab ya d!cks if you feelin a b****…

  16. BeyHive Army July 5, 2014

    Poor Mariah… 😆

    • Sam Loves Rihanna July 5, 2014

Beyoncé has been in the game seven years after Mariah and still has yet to reach half of Mariah’s album sales…or even singles for that matter. Go sit on a cactus plant, B*****+e Army.

      • llawrence July 7, 2014

Did you understand what you just said? I don’t think so. You might want to check out your facts also. Didn’t Mariah just put out her album and how many did she sell to date?

  17. Cindy July 5, 2014

I don’t know what year Pharrell owned with his album not even reaching 2 million WW or Iggy, who has yet to reach platinum.

    • Molly July 5, 2014

      Why don’t you address me then B I T C H!

    • Rosie July 5, 2014

I don’t know why you’re coming for Iggy for not going platinum. No album released this year has done so. Be realistic.

      • Molly July 5, 2014

Thank u Rosie smh people stay bandwagon hating.

  18. Yours Truly July 5, 2014

Rihanna will also do good numbers too. I love her so much 🙁 B&Rih are the baddest

    • Molly July 5, 2014

Hey do u like Arianas new song?

      • Yours Truly July 5, 2014

Well I don’t really like how they controlling her. This sound is not her but I love her. I’m being honest didn’t like ‘Problem’ & didn’t feel the video but hey we will see. Time will tell she’s very talented and still very young

      • Molly July 5, 2014

I like both new songs break free is good but a bit dated tho

  19. Yours Truly July 5, 2014

How did Iggy & Pharell own the year when they don’t even have #1 albums or even platinum ? Delusional I tell you

    • Molly July 5, 2014

They obviously owned the year you can’t go anywhere without hearing happy or fancy…

      • Yours Truly July 5, 2014

Slaying only single success doesn’t define owning the year. If that’s the case PYS & all also owned some years.

  20. Yours Truly July 5, 2014

uhmm Pharell sold over 10M WW but her album is like not over 2M WW that’s not owning the year. Take adele type of slayage that is actually owning the year

  21. Did Ya say Justin Bieber,Beyoncè,Miley,Lady Gaga,One Direction,Rita Ora,Sam Smith,Lil Kim or Austin Mahone? July 5, 2014

I see White artist not selling any better. Congratulations to Bey and Williams, it is their year. I’m waiting for R8 and the new R&B artists later this year.

  24. Rosie July 5, 2014

Good for Bey because otherwise album sales are horrid this year.

    • Did Ya say Justin Bieber,Beyoncè,Miley,Lady Gaga,One Direction,Rita Ora,Sam Smith,Lil Kim or Austin Mahone? July 5, 2014

  26. Beygency July 5, 2014

Congrats to Bey & Pharell! They are both veterans in the game & I’m glad to see that they are still slaying. &
John Legend also had a great year, they are still playing ‘All Of Me’ to death. Proud for all these black artists doing their thing.

  27. Musiclover July 5, 2014

Congrats to both….one problem I have with beyoncé is the poor promotion and bad singles choices blow and drunk in love should’ve been the lead singles

  28. Yea ok July 5, 2014

The way the navy talks all the time R8 better be at least 2x platinum in the US when it arrives this year.

Considering her last album barely went platinum tho I highly doubt it. But this beyonce fan is anxiously waiting so we can drag. And drag. And drag.

    • MC!! July 5, 2014

But Beyoncé is nothing but a rehased Rihanna album anyways. Whatever trend Rihanna comes out with this album beyonce will sure “try” to copy it and fail.

  29. BEYHIVE_MINAJ July 5, 2014

    Congrats!

  30. BEYHIVE_MINAJ July 5, 2014

It’s really nice and refreshing to see urban music make a comeback after all the EDM garbage that has been shoved down our throats for the past three years.

    • coolness July 5, 2014

You have no idea! Congrats to the Queen! You Beyhive members must be so proud. Lol, have you guys ever been disappointed by Bey? Cod’ it seems like she’s been slaying your lives since 2003!

      • BEYHIVE_MINAJ July 5, 2014

LMFAO! I don’t think the Queen ever disappoints. She always sets a higher bar for herself all the time, and that’s why she always continues slaying. Like, I thought that the MCWT was the best show ever, and the OTR tour proved me wrong. I don’t know how she does it.

  31. coolness July 5, 2014

Congrats to Bey and Pharrell! Two Black Urban artists holding their genres down. Also John Legend too! I do find it disheartening that Beyonce is the only Black female that can go 2x platinum in today’s climate. Hip-Hop artists do better sales-wise while R&B was hit the worst by the decline in sales. The music industry is falling apart. But enough with the negativity. I’m happy for them and can’t wait to see what q4 offers us in Urban music.

    • BEYHIVE_MINAJ July 5, 2014

Well if you think about it, there are very few hip-hop acts doing well that are actually GOOD. I mean, most of the garbage released by “hip-hop” artists these days doesn’t deserve to be classified as hip-hop or rap music. That’s a shame tbh.

  32. fatusankoh July 5, 2014

Congrant to queen bey more success in all you do I love you so much

  33. RICHIE_RICH July 5, 2014

    Congrats to all…….

  35. SUGAR SHOCK July 5, 2014

I dont think ANY artist has gone platinum this year. B the ONLY black female artist that sales 1 million in less than a month or even less than A YEAR. Catch the #SHADE.These Rih stans sure are talking extra BRAVE considering Rih has yet to release R8 in this 2014 market. I rih doesnt ATLEAST go #1 or pull Jlo/Mariah #’s Imma be LMFAO!

  36. the voice July 5, 2014

I thought Iggy was running urban music tho? LOL

Congrats to By, Pharell, and John Legend

    • Mark111 July 5, 2014

To have the biggest song of the summer and NOT have your album on this list is a fail. Beyonce has the higest selling albums this year so far and only behind the Frozen soundtrack. It’s sad that 700K is the highest so far as a whole. Sales are dead.

  37. Metzo July 5, 2014

I’m surprised Bey is even at #1 considering that she had no #1 single to push her album, she’s not promoting and is urban RnB.

This Bbryonve era, although it Slayed, was a real hot f****** mess. Bad single choices, bad promotion. Just an overall mess.

Had she released DrIL as the lead single on December, then releases ‘Blow’ as a summer anthem, her album would have crossed 5M Mark by now.

1st U.S Single: DrIL released right after album dropped (Dec.)
    2nd W.W single: X.O released around March/April
3rd Single (US or WW): Blow, summer anthem to hold the album over until end of summer
4th single W.W: PH Released just in time for the 2015 Grammys (Jan.). Plus a brilliant performance at the Grammys to boot sales.

Then may be partition, Mine and Jealous as forthcoming singles. I’m pretty sure the albums would be at least 5 Million with good promo n single choices.

  38. You Mad or nah? July 6, 2014

    Congrats to Beyonce and Pharrell.
I’m still trying to figure out why some of these comments are so negative.
Why is frozen even being mentioned? The list is for R&B/HipHop and even still Beyonce comes at number 2 overall. There really are some bitter b******.
Beyonce> any other female in 2 quarters…I’d be mad too.

  39. Truth tea July 6, 2014

If Pharrell was a woman he would be dragged for those underwhelming sales.
He is easily one of the top 3 publicised artists of 2014 and isn’t even platinum.
    Well done Bey.

  40. Lizzzz July 6, 2014

If you call what they do R&B

  41. Sandra July 6, 2014

MJ in the top 5 best selling albums with a posthumous album and with barely no promo. When will the rest.
