For all of the tweet-worthy moments over its lengthy 3.5 hour airtime (see: emotional speeches, off-color commentary, jaw-dropping live performances courtesy of Jennifer Hudson, John Legend & Lady Gaga), the day after the 87th annual Academy Awards is finding the show lining tweets for another reason – a severe drop in ratings.
The Neil Patrick Harris-hosted affair, which aired February 22 on ABC, not only brought with it a 17% drop in viewers from last year’s showing, but also reigns as the ceremony’s lowest ratings tally this decade.

“Running on ABC from 8:30-11:48 PM ET last night, the Neil Patrick Harris-hosted show garnered a 10.8 rating among adults 18-49 with 36.6 million viewers. That’s a 17% drop in the key demo from the final ratings for the 2014 Academy Awards and the worst the ceremony has done since 2008, when that show had a 10.68 rating. The total viewership for last night’s Oscars was down 18% from last year to hit a six-year low; the 2009 Oscars also had a total audience of 36.6 million.
The 2003 Oscars had an audience of 33.0 million, the worst the show has done this century.”

The Academy Awards is probably the most boring award show in history, I’m surprised it gets so many views in the first place. I be falling asleep during most of the show anyways.

The real story is how the most boring thing in Hollywood and on TV is getting 30+ million views.
I don’t know anyone who watches the Oscars tbh, I guess all those old Hollywood men must auto turn their tvs to the channel.
THE OSCARS ARE TOO LONG AND BORING THAT’S ALL
Not that many HUGE A-listers attended, no big movies were nominated (except American Racist), Neil Patrick Harris was annoying and not funny, and every category was a lock, no big surprises except for the lack of wins for (12 Years A White) Boyhood.
How? It was one of the biggest races of recent years. Nobody knew if Boyhhod or Birdman was going to win, same with Redmayne or Michael Keaton.
The best adpted creenplay award for The Imitation Game was a total surprise too.
There have been way more predictable years, most of them in fact.
