This year’s ceremony, which will mark its first in six years, will air live from NYC on June 11th and will “pay homage to the female pioneers, trailblazers, and trend-setters who lead a movement and infiltrated the ranks of the male-dominated genre to make their voices heard and still do today.”
Queen Latifah and ‘Love & Hip Hop’ jefe Mona Scott-Young will produce the special and are yet to announce its honourees.
Awesome and no hate towards Nicki Minaj please. She mad a name for herself , made history and let’s not deny that she Queen of flows she can ride any beat. She is a legend even if many don’t think she is and did it in record time

I highly doubt Minaj sold more albums compared to Lauryn Hill or Missy Elliot. And both did it without stealing another rapper’s image/style to launch their career.
Salt-N-Pepa, MC Lyte and Missy Elliott were honored previously. It will be interesting to see who they pick this time around. Lil Kim, Queen Latifah, Lauryn Hill, Roxanne Shante, Eve, Trina, Foxy Brown, even Nicki are all deserving. Should be a good show.
This is such good sh!t. All of our female MC’s need to be recognized. In a male dominated rap industry, we don’t hear much of anything from or about our ladies past, present and I’d like to see and hear some stuff about our potential future female MC’s too.
