New Song: Toni Braxton & Birdman – ‘Heart Away’

Published: Sunday 14th Jan 2018 by Rashad

Late 2017 saw Toni Braxton reemerge onto the R&B scene with word she was hard-at-work on her 7th solo studio album, currently titled ‘Sex & Cigarettes’ (reportedly due February 2018).  As the cut’s lead single, ‘Deadwood,’ earned its fair share of thumbs up from critics and her legion of staunch supporters – affectionately called #ToniTigers – the Grammy-winner is undoubtedly hoping to use some of that momentum to fuel interest in other releases leading up to the launch of ‘Cigarettes.’

Tapping ‘Baby You Can Do It’ co-star Birdman to assist, it appears the two have done it again thanks to the hip-hop fueled cut, ‘Heart Away.’ Produced by London On Da Track, the tune – a cover/remix of Derez Deshon‘s ‘Hardaway’ – hears Braxton spit some of her most braggadocious lyrics to date.

Is Birdman helping the songbird tap into her inner thug?  Listen inside and let us know:

If the song will be granted single status or even featured on ‘Sex & Cigarettes’ is yet to be confirmed, but what has been evidenced is A) Toni and Birdman are clearly working together and B) her new project may contain elements of more contemporary Urban sounds.

Either way, roll on ‘Sex & Cigarettes.’ We can’t wait!

I love it but I feel like her career went south the moment she abondonned the sound that made her successful in the first place (classic r&b & pop ~ First 2 albums). Ever since she tried to be hip-hop her and started using samples her success went downhill saleswise. A few years ago, she tried to go classic again by working on a Babyface duet album and it got her newfound success with a number 1 r&b song and a grammy. I say Toni should stick with the formula that made her successful.

Why? So she can keep being boring and mediocre? No REAL artist wants to keep making the same album over and over. I like that she changes it up for better or worse. She is a brave artist instead of the kind that keeps doing the same sound on every album out of fear of rejection and fear of change.

        Like a certain artist…… *PINK – cough* ??‍♀️

      • Jasmine January 15, 2018

Your comment is idiotic. do you realize that the music industry is a sales industry? Artists are essentially salesmen! They sell their music and concert tickets for profit! Toni has tries to be current several times and it never works. Obviously her recording classic r&b is what works for her. People buy classic r&b music from her and pass on her attempts at trying to be current so obviously the classic r&b sound is NOT “boring and mediocre.” The classic r&b sound got her millions of sold records, grammies, and made her a legend. Real fans are not as stupid as you and they certainly don’t want their favs to flop again!

      I agree.

    • JC January 15, 2018

The fact that you think the main point of making music is to sell s*** speaks volumes about your character. Clearly you are not an artist of any kind. Stick to being a boring and greedy businessman and leave all talk of artistry to those of us who know what it means.

      • Jasmine January 15, 2018

JC I manage entertainers. Stop being so immature and stupid. Recognize that artists should be business smart. Being creative is meaningless if you are not able to recoup your investment in recording / promoting an album and obtain sales profits for your hard work. Toni needs to work with Babyface and David Singleton again for at least half her album because they excel her artistry and bring her hit records.

DAMN TONI!!!! ? Smooooooooth like she never done left us! Hats of to versatility to do classic to contemporary seamlessly. I doubt radio will embrace this but maybe this album is for her and the fans – of which her recent tours prove she still has plenty.

That was nice to do that. Now where are the lyrics to this song?

  10. KeepingR&BAlivewithMiss J January 15, 2018

This a bop. I’m loving the versatility that Toni is showing on this track.
Birdman’s verse is cool too. I like the beat. Altogether it’s a song I will be playing. Yasss

This slays I can’t wait for her album she never disappoints album wise so come thru Ms.Braxton ??

  12. DanYiel Iman January 15, 2018

I’m feeling this as well & ?WHERE IS THIS ALBUM TONI BRAXTON?!!

  13. Moti January 15, 2018

My mom use to bump her hard in the 90s. That’s how I fell in love with her as a kid. And she’s still going! Go Toni!

  14. Deyzz January 15, 2018

Toni’s voice is awesome, just wish the song was more catchy for the collaboration. Harder beats like Crazy in Love or “You” (Lloyd and Lil Wayne) would’ve been great. Well, it’s a start, it could do well.

  15. eric January 15, 2018

This sounds like a hip-hop remix of a song that was meant to be r&b. Birdman’s part is completely unnecessary. I enjoy Toni a lot, paid for meet & greets and all that, but I will not buy the album if it’s more of this music. Sorry Toni.

  16. Quentin January 15, 2018

Loving this go head Toni do what you wanna do don’t bother what negative people say you deserve to do what ever makes you happy and sing what ever makes you free I’m hear for this

  17. JC January 15, 2018

I like it! Nice to see that Toni is not afraid to do something different; even if it’s something her typical audience may not approve of. Being an artist is about taking chances and doing what feels right. I’m so glad she wasn’t tempted to seek the approval of so-called “fans” who think all of her music should sound like it was made in the 90s.

    • Jasmine January 15, 2018

Shut up queen. Real fans want their favs to win. Who are you to label people “so-called fan” in the first place queen? Go sashay away with your nitwit thoughts.

      • JC January 16, 2018

Yes, I am a queen. Thanks for noticing. It’s a shame that you homos are always the first to throw out some homophobic insults hoping that that your victim is another gay. Not quite. Better luck next time you attempt to insult your own kind. Oh well! Guess it’s better that you’re here fake-insulting me than doing your usual stint at the schoolyard rubbing yourself while watching the kiddies. But, I won’t shut up. Artists are not athletes and “winning” is pointless if you’re music is cookie-cutter garbage meant only to make sales. Go find a Beyonce or a Taylor if “winning” is all you care about. You’ll be happy to find someone who is all numbers and of little artistic substance. I don’t buy dime-a-dozen garbage. All those folks you think are “winning” only look like they’re doing something because they manipulate and post up fake numbers. Anyway…please stop looking at the kids, that sh*t is nasty and you know it!

      • Jasmine January 16, 2018

B|tch I am not a homo or a p*** but now I know what you are. You are some wannabe artist who has a thing for little boys like MJ did. The only difference is MJ had a creative artistry that sold millions of records so he could afford the kiddie trap called Neverland whereas you are just some broke loser wannabe hating on people with common sense realness because your talent (or serious lack thereof) is not profitible and you are simply in denial. Get a job.

  18. Kevin January 16, 2018

TNot the first time they’ve worked together. this sounds as fresh as the stuff she did with Bigtymers on the 2002 More Than A Woman album.
