So, as our retrospective features ‘From the Vault’ and ‘TGJ Replay’ allow us the chance to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday of one artist, our newest feature Chart Rewind – a variation of our current Retro Rewind assay – accedes salutes to an entire era of music history.
This week it’s all about ‘All For You’ – pop icon Janet Jackson‘s 2001 smash hit from her seventh studio album of the same name. Written by Jackson and her longtime collaborators, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, the cut – which samples Change‘s ‘The Glow of Love’ – was released in March 2001 and crowned the kick off single for the ‘All For You’ album. Not even a month later ‘All’ saw itself enjoying the views from the Billboard Hot 100’s perch.
Going on to reign for a collective 7 weeks, it was the year’s longest holder of the chart’s peak position. A platinum hit for the diva, ‘All For You’ remains her last chart-topper on the Hot 100. That’s my song as well!!
This time in my eyes was the last that Janet had perfect styling and really cool choreography with big free-flowing movement. It’s not performed the same way now, sadly. The “All for You” years were a special time and the song is still a favorite of mine.
A person may be depressed and not know it I think after Michael died she slipped into a depression because she completely stopped doing her hair and makeup,,,, it’s like whatever

Not only one of my favorite songs but also one of my favorite vocals by Janet! The whole album is fun and upbeat and arguably her last great album front to back with songs like “You Ain’t Right”, “Trust A Try” and “Better Days”. The perfect follow-up to the dark but brilliant Velvet Rope. Hard to believe it’s been almost 20 years.
The All For You album really had to grow on me. When I first bought it in 2001, I really only liked a handful of the records. Overtime it has become one of my favorite albums and all of the records have aged really well. None of the sound 17 years old! Most of the album feels so light and fun and always puts me in a good mood.
