Despite almost 30 years in the game, Mariah Carey is losing none of her lustre with critics.
New album ‘Caution,’ released last week, has been showered with praise from many a corner; and consistent has been appreciation for how skilfully the LP manages to sew together Carey’s classic sound with contemporary production.
Nonetheless, many are amped to see how the project is performing commercially.
Head below for the answer…
According to Hits Daily Double, the album will open at #5 on the Billboard 200 with the following figures:
50,633
[Sales Plus Streaming]
***********
43,173
[Pure Sales]

Granted the numbers aren’t ‘Emancipation’ in size, they are commendable for the current climate and importantly for where Mimi is in her career at present.
Much of the stellar promotional campaign has rightfully centered on the album’s critical reception, Mariah’s skillset as a writer, and her legendary legacy.
All of which re-affirms that this “era” is about much more than numbers (although she’ll more than recoup with her upcoming tour). It’s been a brand repairing exercise and we’re loving watching (and hearing) it play out.
What are…
Such a boring album. Not one banger!
NEXT
YOU ARE A HATER. 8th GRADE is a BANGER.
Yous a bald headed liar…all bangers…the f***
Such a boring life for a pressed hater who probably has hidious face and a d***-shattered ass that needs to take several seats. Lol
you must be 16-22 to even say that and to think Mariah puts out bangers. she makes classic timeless music dummy!`
album is solid and did solid numbers….. keep shinning Mimi, still holding it down 20 something years later, who else can say that!
She’s a soon to be 50 year old woman still selling in the top 5 and most of those sales are physical which means a great deal of people still care!
That is BS. She has way more than some 50K fans. Lambs where your asses at? Why aint yall buy Auntie Mariah’s album and add it it to your collections? Her fans should have showed out and her label should have deeply discounted her album so more fans would buy it.! Period.
That’s because most of her fanbase is either dead or living in retirement homes at this point
Queen!!
Her weave is Nappy forever in that pic……Whitney please get her a comb
well its her 15th album.. most pop act or pop girls seldom have tht longevity.. shes almost 50, so thts number is commendable.. hard to push higher when Top40 radio shy away from female singers above 40
Caution the album by the Legend and Iconic Mariah Carey is a MASTERPIECE. It deserves more sales, streams, accolades and what have you. Track every track is GREATNESS overload. Still waiting for my ordered cd from the U. S.
After selling the amount of records she’s sold, having the hits she’s had, at this point, the numbers and sales of current and future projects don’t matter. It’s simply about the music and “Caution” is a great album.
Nah her fans should be loyal and start buying her new albums! A “great” album that only 50K people buys first week does not add up! Her fans need to show the world how great the album is and buy the album to add to their collections.
@Rasputia you’re right. Fan must buy it if they really like it
@Rasputia I guess your reading comprehension skills are off so I’ll rewrite my comment for you: “After selling the amount of records she’s sold, having the hits she’s had, at this point, numbers and sales of current and future projects don’t matter…”. In other words, I said what I said. Debate your mother.
Sales always matter whether you’re a legend or not. Cher & Barbara Streisand released albums this year and they didn’t flop as bad as this.
@Gina facts only please… Barbra Streisand’s last album (Walls 2018) debuted at 12 with under 45,000 sold in it’s first week so TF are you talking about?? Cher’s latest album “dancing queen” debuted at number 2 with over 150,000 in pure sales, 153,000 with streaming and has yet to scan 210,000 total sales since it’s opening week lol. You all take first week numbers and declare an album a flop, give it time!
Those are not great numbers but given how ageist radio & the industry is, it’s commendable. That said it’s such a brilliant album & it deserves to be heard by more people. Hopefully it will continue to sell thru the holidays
Sorry there is nothing “commendable” about having round-the-clock promotion for a multiplatinum artist and selling only 43k albums.
shows how you know nothing about anything just a fat person behind a screen haitting!
go back to eatting your cake you bum
EVERY new MC album debuts.on Billboard’s TOP 10. & CAUTION will be no different! !
Congratulations Mariah on the most critically acclaimed R&B album of the year!!
This record will get more popular in the many months to come ……..
lmfaooooo FLOP. she’s doing jlo numbers now lmfaooooo ? ?? ?
Don’t compare trash music of jlo to mariah..
lmaooo mariah flopped harder than jlo so that makes her music TRASH too lmfaooooo ? ?
Why don’t you shut your d****** smelling mouth and take several sits for your floppy ass? Lmfao
Poor Mimi, this album deserves a lot of recognition. Where are the “lambs” when it comes buying her album?
lmaooo the idiots were too busy getting #justiceforglitter instead of buying her new album, dumbasses lmfaooooo ? ?? ?
I tottally agree!!! Instead of buying a tanked album released almost twenty years ago, buy the damn new one!
Thank you, next.
Mariah is a LEGEND so whatever she puts out is a blessing to her lambily!!??
She’s been there and done that when it comes to sales. She has nothing to prove. At this point she’s releasing music because she WANTS to. Not because she has to. It’s not about money it’s about her love for the music. 15 albums in the game!! Give respect ✊? ‼️
Dont forget people. These numbers are only for a few days. The album came out on Friday. This was not a full week of sales. Caution should do well with black Friday, the holidays.
@John this is a full week Nov 16-22. Black Friday doesn’t sell records and the holidays only help albums that have hits on the radio. As great as this project is, she released the wrong singles and has not turned out a hit yet.
Agreed, this album as most critics put it is her best in a decade. It blew me away! The numbers are commendable especially at this point in her career, just glad that this legend is still putting out albums
i think the album will have staying power. Its definitely on my top 10 albums this year by a mile. I think if she does the “no no no” remix with Lil kim and Cardi. That will give it a boost as well
The fact she debuts top tens many years later, many albums later say what you want but Mariah is ok with me.
I mean it’s her 14th or 15th studio album if you count Glitter so it’s actually not horrible Sales considering that.
Should be #1
Such a great album and very good numbers considering she doesn’t have a hit right now. I’ve been playing the album nonstop. The A&R in me says get A No No on the radio ASAP (some stations are already playing it instead of With You) and then follow that with Caution and add Drake to the radio version. This album has legs.
Such a boring forgettable album
I was expecting 15-20k max tbh
so, good for her i guess
I was expecting lower. Congrats all the same.
I don’t give a f*** about sales… it is all about the music and the songs are mediocre at best. Its a no no from me.
That’s it? Ok…
The album is boring. Sorry but true.
This album is a masterpiece of me!!
I don’t care what it sales because it’s just that good. I do believe it will continue to grow in sales too.
What’s great about this album is that someone of Mariah’s tenure A: Still has an ear for what’s current production wise B: Still has the power of story telling through writing C: Still looks great and is authentic (see Genius interview). But – this album gets a file with “OK” albums from her discography – it’s no Emanciapation of Mimi – which is Mariah at one of her very best peaks. Still glad to have her making music but this album is standard Mariah not a masterpiece.
Forgettable sales for a forgettable album. She should have done ticket bundles & merchandising to increase sales. I doubt if this album will even reach 100k.
I want to preface that I am not a Mariah Carey fan but her career is legendary for a reason. And with rare exception is any artist selling 100k+ in a week. The album is a critical hit and it’s nice to see her happy and healthy. And let’s not forget the burden of legendary success and diamond certifications led not only Mariah, but Janet, Whitney and Madonna to severe depression. And not one of them has anything to prove.
….
Flop………Whitney laff hard hunty..hahajaha….
I didn’t expect anything less than a 38 minute flop from this drunkard.
I´m sure there´s at least one album among the 4 above Caution that sold less but was a bigger streaming “force” LOL Pathetic days.
Mariah is still doing great!!! I love her too!!! Respect for one of the great legends!!! Her sales number is still great. What matters is she still putting out great music and tour for the fans:) Mariah looks happy lately and she’s in shape:)
These numbers are not good at all but she’s a legend so at the end of the day it doesn’t matter because her legacy is intact.
Wow… Those are similar to Kylie’s opening numbers in the UK for Golden.
Difference: Kylie released her album in the first quarter of the year where sales are a lot lower then in Q4
She opened with 48K in the UK… Not the US.. Great for the UK, not so great for the US
It gave Kylie a number 1 album @ 50 y.o.
How is the album doing WW?
This album was a gigantic flop. It had 7 reviews paid for by the PRs handling this disastrous album reading like 8th-grade press releases. The tired news articles surrounding this release of “Caution” showed how tired and out-of-touch Mariah Carey is as an artist. The industry has moved on without her. 90% of this album’s sales were from prehistoric technology – CDs – leaving about 10% for streaming (which is the main market these days) which makes the album even MORE of a flop. Then this hilarious article tries to spin hideous sales by saying “Well numbers don’t count anyway in this current climate”. Yeah, nice try – that’s like patting your loser child on the head after coming last in a race and saying “taking part is what counts”. Sales are everything. I’m sorry, but for a legacy artist of the stature of Mariah Carey, a woman who touts herself as one of the biggest divas in the industry, those numbers are catastrophic, potentially career ending. Sales are what count at the end of the day and they’re the best yardstick and measure of an artist’s popularity. Mariah couldn’t face another Me. I Am Mariah level flop, but she’s got it – this time with the full weight of the media on her side making it even more of a fail. She’s an ageing, out-of-touch example of a star whose legacy went to their head and they’re living in a bubble surrounded by sycophants, in a downward spiral and refusing to change or adapt to an industry which has left them behind. The funny thing about this article trying to put a positive spin on a flop is that nobody will even read it – nobody cares anymore about the has been Carey. Only a few fanatical lambs who are ageing ’90s douchebags.
Most of her fan base is overseas. America is too fickle to appreciate a legend
We all know Mariah Scary’s career was over in the early 90’s. Anybody see her New Years performance?.. What a disater. Her voice has lost it’s “glitter” i guess that comes with age. Mariah change your name to ..What once was. This has-been will never have a New Release reach Number 1.
The album is the biggest flop ever for Mariah and any major female artist. It was on the Billboard album charts for only THREE WEEKS and spawned zero hot 100 singles. Flop
No it’s not
Flop
