Chris Brown Releases Statement; Says ‘Sorry’

Published: Sunday 15th Feb 2009 by Sam
Exactly a week after assaulting Rihanna and rocking the industry in the process, Chris Brown released a statement today to the press, expressing regret at the situation at hand:
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Chris Brown, who was arrested a week ago in connection with a domestic violence investigation, said Sunday he is “sorry and saddened” by what happened and is seeking counseling from his pastor and loved ones.
The 19-year-old R&B singer also said much of what has been reported of the incident is untrue, although he did not elaborate.
“Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired. I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God’s help, to emerging a better person,” Brown said in a statement issued through publicist Michael Sitrick.
“Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and-or reported in the media is wrong,” he added. But he said he couldn’t discuss that in detail until his case is resolved.
He also said he has not posted any comments about the incident on Facebook or any other Web site. “Those posts or writings under my name are frauds,” he said.
Brown surrendered to Los Angeles police on Feb. 8 and was released on $50,000 bail after being booked for investigation of making a criminal threat, a felony. He has not been charged by the district attorney’s office, which is still investigating the case. {Source}

I guess this was to be expected. I’m still on the fence as to my take on this all. Roll on the ‘concrete’ court info…

Sam, we already know why your on the fence. I would be too if this was someone I stanned behind but at the same time wrong is wrong. No one is behind his actions and yes this will hurt his career. He made these actions himself, so the blame is on him. He had no right putting his hands on a woman. I feel bad for Rihanna, how do you think she feels emotionally after this incident. I’ve watched one girl at a party get a beat down from her boyfriend because she was dancing on the floor with another guy. Thank God she screamed and yelled “stop” cause she would of been left for dead too. For chris brown, this matter is very serious and laws do not look away from it. sorry to say but chris is finished. they’ve already stopped spinning his music on radio stations, lost 3 endorsements and there’s more to come (feminist groups…etc). how do you suppose he come back from that? I’ve already heard people trying to say he can make a comeback and they try to compare him to Bobby Brown and R. Kelly. Seriously, where are they in there career, right now. they’re not doing too well because of their ignorance. and all the young girls that are backing him up, your young and naive. I feel sorry for you because your impressionable.

Sam gimme a break!!! what more do you need to know she was assulated, Chris fled the scene, she ended up in hospital then he turned himself in a couple of hours later. And that statement is pathetic he might as well have said NOTHING… smh

    Get well soon Rih Rih…

  3. Anonymous February 15, 2009

‘Nothing But Love’, how exactly do you know for a fact that that is what happened? All we know is what has been reported, speculated and OVER-exaggerated in the media.
We really don’t know anything at all.

  4. Anonymous February 15, 2009

SMH @ Sam. Violence is never acceptable and clearly Chris hurt Rihanna. He admits it in his statement. Chris’ career is over.

rhianna is no freaking saint she had to do something so stfu about lets support her. i hate ritard why would i support her

its not right to put your hands on anybody! and if rhianna put her hands on him first that is wrong.

I’m in law enforcement, what chris brown did is called “excessive use of force”. I dont care if your an celebrity, celebrity’s should be charged for aggrivated battery just like everybody else. He should be held accounted for what he did. ANY man should know, you never hit a lady. What brown did was totally wrong. based on the “totality of circumstances” the agency that investigated the incident probably could charge him for attempted murder, thats based on the injuries rihana had but chris brown needs to be charged for this, nobody should break the law and get off free, NOBODY…….

  7. Anonymous February 15, 2009

I shake my head when people act like domestic violence is “normal” or act as though hitting a woman is excusable just because both of them are “young”. Youth does not excuse battery in any type of situation. Go down to Juvenille institutions and you will see some of the most viscious, lack of remorse that you will ever see. Just because people like this punk and his music does not excuse his behavior. Provocation by a female is never an excuse that can be used either. A real MAN needs to exercise self-control. The courts will teach his punk a$$ a lesson hopefully.
He hasn’t suffered any consequences for his actions. Hiding behind PR people and ironically, female members of his family who want the world to feel sorry for him, is not the move. Stand up and act like a damn man and apologize for beating the ish out of rihanna you worthless piece of crap who goes by the name of Chris Brown.
He is a corny a** trailer park punk who never should have put his hands on a woman.
Women beaters are the scum of the earth right along with child m********. This type of behavior should not be tolerated. PERIOD>

Strangely enough, it is women giving him the most excuses as if there is ever a situation where beating the ish outta of a chick is necessary or appropriate. SMDH
Women, raise your damn standards. I know some are used to ghetto relationships where domestic violence is referred to as “just a fight”. The truth is: getting your a** whipped and claiming you had a fight is just down right delusional! Ask Fantasia Barrino who also got her a** beat by the baby father, its never okay to accept this, whether or not you thought you was “fighting” back, you still end up with bruises and in Rihanna’s case in the hospital. Draw the line and stop accepting this ish as the norm in relationships.

    Peace.

AMEN! PREACH PREACH PREACH IT, YALL! Some of these fools need to take heed to this ish, especially these young idiot females on here who are defending this hot ghetto mess (or better yet, Ike Turner Jr.)

This “statement” was plain lazy. Unapologetic, unsympathetic, and LATE. Chris Brown telling us he’s going to seek help through his pastor and (LMBAO) mother and “other members of his family” does not convince me he’s really serious about getting help and dealing with this. This fool needs PROFESSIONAL HELP in dealing with this! Somebody who “specializes” professionally in domestic abuse cases, and getting through it.

The fact of the matter is that this is something he’s dealt with almost his whole life, having to witness his mother being physically abused at the hands of a man, only to, in turn, do the same thing to another woman. He needs more than his pastor and family to deal with this, period! Somebody needs to shake him up and let him know he’s a man now, and that “running to mommy” to deal with this situation isn’t going to get him the help he needs in order to break this chain.

  9. NICK February 15, 2009

I dnt care who dont like who, or any of that childish foolishness, real adult/mature people dnt act out in violence-I grew up wth a father who did tht & its jst NOT kool-PERIOD EVER! he can get help & will def prob b a better person after this, BUT i wont buy anything of his again-I'll download it 4 free-haha, I AM DEF gna pray 4 strength 4 them all tho, NO ONE DESERVES THIS!!!

    he’s career is doomed!!!

  11. Anonymous February 15, 2009

I still LOVE CHRIS BROWN, Rihanna would not have a career if it wasn’t for her lovely face. Chris should not have hit her, but I know there is 2 sides to this story. Rihanna career need to be over she can’t sing or dance she just stands there and looks good.(Chris messed her best asset up (that face of hers))

  12. Anonymous February 15, 2009

Women can be very vindicting and tempting to have the s*** slapped out of them sometimes but nobody deserves to be hit regardless of your gender. I was raised to never raise my hand to a lady and it doesn’t matter what I do to justify my actions, it’s not acceptable. Chris should be condemned for his actions and he should have to pay his debt to society just like any normal male would regardless of his fame.

  13. Anonymous February 15, 2009

There is a whole lot of speculating and judging of the situation without anyone being physically there themselves to witness this beating including me. I will not make any judgments until I hear both side of the story from Chris and Rhianna’s mouth.

If he did do it was wrong, but I suspect that Rhianna may not be so innocent and coy as the media and fans portray her to be.

  14. Anonymous February 15, 2009

I have to make another observation when it comes to Jay-Z. I understand that Rhianna was once his protege at some point, but to go as far as to say “Chris Brown needs to watch his back” is going a bit too far for me for a married man. For a man who used to sell drugs he is acting like he hasn’t made mistakes in his past and grew from it. I feel some people should watch what they say before they speak.

  15. Anonymous February 16, 2009

Yo this is perfect timing for LeToya’s song “I Don’t Want It Anymore”…

FIRST OFF I WOULD LIKE TO TELL PPL THAT CHRIS DID THE RIGHT THING BY NOT DENYING IT BECAUSE WE KNOW FOR A FACT THAT HE DID HIT HER THAT RELEVANT. BUT TO THE PPL SAYING THEY NEED TO LOCK HIM UP…….PLEASE THAT AIN’T GONE HAPPEN

IF R.KELLY CAN GET OFF FOR HAVING S** WITH A MINOR AND PISSING ON HER ASS AND THEY ACTUALLY HAD PROOF THAT HE DID IT, THERE IS NO WAY THEY ARE GOING TO CONVICT CHRIS. I’M SORRY THERE JUST NOT.

DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY PPL WOULD START A RIOT BECAUSE OF THAT. THE MOST CHRIS WILL DO IS PROBABLY BE ON PROBATION AND HE’LL HAVE TO GO ANGER MANGAMENT AND GET REAL COUSELING. NOT FROM NO PASTOR. FROM SOMEONE THAT DOESN’T KNOW HIM. AND I’M NOT EVEN TRYING TO BE FUNNY I’M BEING DEAD ASS SERIOUS.

  18. Anonymous February 16, 2009

WE DON’T EVEN KNOW HOW BAD RIHANNA WAS HIT OR HURT, IT COULD ALL BE EXAGGERATED BY THE MEDIA, WHY ARE WE ALL JUDGING CHRIS BROWN, WHEN WE DON’T KNOW THE FACTS??

EVERY TIME SOMEONE LIKE ME SAYS, WAIT UNTIL THE TRUTH IS REVEALED BEFORE WE JUDGE, WE ARE ACCUSED OF STICKING UP FOR MEN WHO DO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, THAT’S PATHETIC

WE DON’T KNOW WHAT HAPPEN, IT’S ALL HEAR’SAY

WHAT IS SAD, THIS IS ONLY A BIG DEAL BCOZ RIHANNA IS FAMOUS
IF WAS UNKNOWN PERSON WHO WENT THROUGH DOMESTIC VIOLENCE,
IT WON’T HAVE THE SAME COVERAGE AND NO ONW WOULD CARE AS MUCH

RIHANNA WON’T SUFFER LIKE MOST WOMAN, WHO SUFFER DOMESTIC VIOLENCE EVERY F****** DAY BEHIND CLOSED DOORS

SHE WILL GET SYMPATHY, MAKE MORE MUSIC, BECOME A SPOKESPERSON AND PLAY THE MY EX BF BEAT ME UP CARD AND ,AKE MORE MONEY

SHE WON’T SUFFER IN THE WAY REAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE WOMAN SUFFER IN SILENCE, THEREFORE I DON’T FEEL SORRY FOR HER, NO SHE DIDN’T DESRVE TO GET HIT!! BUT THIS IS LIKELY TO BE HER FIRST AND ONLY TIME IT HAPPENED AND SHE IS GETTING ALL THIS POUR OF SYMPATHY FROM THE MEDIA AND THE PUBLIC AND WE DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT REALLY WENT DOWN

IT’S A SHAME, CHRIS MADE BETTER MUSIC THEN HER TOO, NOW WE ARE CONSTANTLY GOING TO HEAR HER MUSIC EVERYWHERE!!!

I believe that his career isn’t over. He’s too talented to just end up by the wayside. True, his career has suffered so far, but he hasn’t been indicted on any charges cuz they don’t have enough evidence. If they did, the DA wouldn’t have asked for more time. Second, people are saying the people that approve of his behavior are young and naïve. I’m 27 yrs old and my mother is 53. We both agree that under certain circumstances, he was warranted to hit her back. Now as far as him going to the extreme like that, some women need to realize that men are stronger and can do more physical harm. A lot of women hit men and expect none of them to hit back. Women have to realize not all men were raised under the same belief that under no circumstance do you hit a woman. Some men were raised that if she hits you, you hit her ass back. And some usually don’t hit a woman, but can only take so much before they retaliate. I remember when my parents fought. My father would get drunk and initiate it, but my mother always tore that ass up. When the police arrived, they’d just laugh at my father. He would try to get them to arrest my mother and they just laughed so hard in his face. In this society, it’s okay for a woman to beat a man and she’s not punished at all. Then when a man finally hits them back, society is ready to castrate him. Yet women are always hollering about equal rights. It said in the damn police report that she wrote, that Rihanna did strike him first AND threw the damn keys out the window at 2 in the morning. She was asking for it. She’s very immature so don’t sit there and act like he just went 730 on her ass for no reason.

I believe that his career isn’t over. He’s too talented to just end up by the wayside. I don’t think it’s fair that the tv shows and radio shows have stopped playing his music. That to me is people putting their personal feelings in the way of their job. She’ll lose a lot of fans: the ones that really are die-hard CB fans, and a lot of people that don’t agree with the true story if it turns out that she was just as much to blame as he.

People keep saying that being young isn’t an excuse..it is when you go out a get a matching tattoo when you’ve been in a relationship for a couple of months. she was gone over him and went crazy when she found the text as proof of him cheating. she got more than she bargained for and not she wants the world to feel sorry for her. she is way too dramatic and she shouldn’t have hit him first. all men don’t practice the same amount of restraint when it comes to hitting women. if she knew him like she should have, she would’ve known not to hit him. And if she did know that he had a tendency to retaliate if he gets hit by a woman, she should’ve known to leave earlier. In a lot of young relationships, there’s no communication.
They probably didn’t really know each other in the beginning. By the time he knew who she really was, he wanted out of the relationship, but she was just sooo head over heels and had to have her way, thus we have the result we do. He was feeling trapped, and once he started hitting her, his rage just took over. That’s why communication is key in any relationship, so s*** doens’t build up and resentment creeps in.

History repeats itself. How many stories in the Bible are about people joining together, not knowing the facts, and cast stones as if they were beyond reproach themselves. It’s so easy to jump on the bandwagon and condemn someone, but the case has not been tried. There are fake pictures of Rihanna’s injuries circulating along with numerous rumors, on TV and online. Still, noone has the facts yet or the context in which to explain them. Remember that before you cast stones.

  26. Anonymous February 16, 2009

Bah kinda tired of this right now, both of them are pretty lackluster when it comes to being a real music artists, so hopefully Chris can make a comeback but based on his current crudentials I’d have to say that it’s time to “Say Goodbye”

  27. Andrew February 16, 2009

DAM STOP HATING ON CHRIS BROWN.
you guys still don’t know the full story. yeah i feel bad for rihanna but we still don’t know what went down in that car. I think he made a good statement, and should address the situation again when it’s all over.

  28. Anonymous February 16, 2009

these young girls don’t even know consequences to such act, they’re stuck on music…his music career is not going to save him in this circumstance. Ignants screamed free TI even when there was evidence. Let the little girls think it’s ok to hit someone…I look forward to it because I work in law enforcement, the more bastards supporting this trash…the more prisons we build.

  29. Anonymous February 17, 2009

It doesn’t matter what she did because whatever she did hasn’t sent him to the emergency room. Whatever she did hasn’t left him with contusions, swollen eyes, s split lips and bite marks. The law is only gonna look at what he did because it is very visible. No woman deserves to be beaten. This was not a slap in the face. He used her face as a punching bag.

Sam you need to look into yourself and pass the dislike you have for Rihanna’s music and her as an artist. At the end of the day she is still human. She is someone’s daughter and someone’s sister. You have a mother and maybe you have other female relatives. If you don’t, I’m sure you have female friends. Would you like what Chris Brown did to Rihanna happen to any of them? Get off the damn fence, what he did was so wrong.
