The havoc wreaked on the entertainment industry by the coronavirus pandemic seems to have no end in sight.
As we previously reported, a number of concerts, festivals, and live television shows have all been canceled or modified as a ‘safety precaution’ in response to the disease outbreak.
Now, the nixing is being extended to award shows. Look inside to see how COVID-19 is impacting some of the year’s most highly anticipated industry ceremonies:
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony
“This year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in Cleveland has been postponed as a result of the rapidly spreading COVID-19 pandemic.
“The health and safety of our fans and visitors is our highest priority. Given recent news regarding coronavirus and the urging by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine regarding large public gatherings, we have made the decision to postpone the 2020 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Induction Week festivities until later this year,” reads an official statement. “Additional details, including new dates and ticket information, will be announced shortly and shared directly with ticket holders and supporters. Details of the rescheduled HBO live broadcast of the event will be announced at a later date as well.”
The annual ceremony that was to take place at the city’s Public Hall is scheduled honor this year’s slate of inductees, which include Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, the Doobie Brothers, T-Rex, Notorious B.I.G. and Whitney Houston.”
2020 JUNO Awards
“The 49th annual Juno Awards—Canadian music’s most illustrious night aka the Grammys of the North—have been cancelled due to concerns over the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus.
The event was scheduled to take place at the SaskTel Centre stage in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on March 15.
Organizers made the announcement Thursday morning from Saskatoon.
“We are devastated to cancel this national celebration of music, but at this time of global uncertainty, the health, safety, and well-being of all Canadians must stand at the forefront of any decisions that impact our communities,” a joint statement from the Juno Awards and Canadian Academy of Recording Arts (CARAS) said. “We know this is the right decision based on the information we currently have and are continuing to receive. The situation surrounding COVID-19 continues to evolve rapidly and we urge everyone to follow the guidelines and protocols put forth by public health officials.”
2020 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards
“Nickelodeon postponed the 2020 Kids’ Choice Awards, which were scheduled to be hosted by Chance the Rapper on Sunday, March 22 at the Forum in Inglewood, CA. “The Kids’ Choice Awards scheduled for March 22, 2020, in Los Angeles is being postponed in consideration of the safety and well-being of every person involved with the show, which is our top priority,” the network said in a statement to ET. “We will have further information about a new date in the future.”
2020 GLAAD Media Awards
“The 2020 GLAAD Media Awards will not go on as planned, the organization announced Wednesday.
Originally set for March 19 in New York City, the annual ceremony’s cancellation comes amid the growing coronavirus pandemic.
Chief Communications Officer and an Executive Producer of the GLAAD Media Awards Rich Ferraro said in a statement in part, “The team at GLAAD has been in communication with the City of New York and is following the latest recommendations from Governor Cuomo. We were planning to unveil a historic get-out-the-vote campaign at the event because everything is at stake for LGBTQ Americans this election year, and are hopeful that the program and GLAAD’s ongoing work to fight against anti-LGBTQ discrimination will continue to be supported and funded. Since the event is canceled, our advocacy work will experience a loss of funding and we encourage community members and allies to consider becoming a GLAAD member to ensure this work continues.”
Late-night TV star Lilly Singh had signed on to host.”
