Once projected to be ASAP Ferg‘s first top 5 hit (as we reported here), ‘Move Ya Hips’ – the rapper’s reunion single with Nicki Minaj – has seemingly been making all the wrong moves since its July 30 premiere.
Debuting at #19 on the Hot 100 (as we reported here), fans of Minaj – affectionately called #Barbz – asserted ASAP was to blame for the modest opening due to his team failing to report web site sales of the tune.
While that claim has been unsubstantiated, it didn’t stop Ferg from being the brunt of their criticism. Undoubtedly, that judgment will heighten once #Barbz take a look at the newly printed Hot 100.

The refreshed Hot 100 reveals ‘Move Ya Hips’ moved from #19 to #99 in its second week on the chart.
Making an 80-spot drop, the Frankie P-produced bop was originally expected to move upward thanks to the debut of its accompanying music video (seen above). However, given its unveiling occurred on a Wednesday (which is considered late in the tracking week), the true effect of its streaming won’t be seen until next week.
The downward mobility of the MadeinTYO-assisted ‘Move’ mirrors that of Minaj’s last duet, ‘Trollz’ (with 6ix9ine) which debuted at #1 on the Hot 100 only to fall completely off the tally in its 5th week.
Remember the Barbz gave up on it from that nonsense with the numbers, and that damn ridiculous video.

Cardi is an industry plant. If your unfamiliar with the term, it’s the kind of artist that is plucked out of obscurity and given a new sound and aesthetic at the direction of their record label, then jammed down the throats of consumers through avenues like playlists and radio in the name of the “culture”.
Where as Nicki is a talent who spent 10 years opening the doors and elevating the bar for female MCS with talent and skill. Going bar for bar against the greats and the guys to earn her seat at the table. Labels like Atlantic capitalise off of Nicki success and this movement with artists like Cardi who lower the bar and y’all lap it up. SMH
The only female rapper that saw the same level of success as Nicki during her reign was iggy. All the other ones were flops. Cardi opened the door for more women rappers to succeed.

The Industry opened the door for more rappers and prioritised females in rap because of the unrealised potential Nicki Minaj achieved on the back of 10 years of consistent bars which led to her success.
We have seen over the years how labels work to prioritise and mould females to replace the successful ones who have come before. This is no different. Cardi came out looking like Nicki who came out looking like Kim. Hell they even replace black artists with watered down white artists who have greater reach Iggy > Nicky. Britney >. Janet. And its not exclusive to woman either but its been happening for years Elvis > James Brown
Cardi certainly is making the most of the momentum created before her but she ant opening no doors on a new aesthetic or on the innovation of her rap bars. You can say she’s utilising her social media currency to succeed as a rapper and some might say lowering the bar to make it possible for anyone to become a rapper but is that really complimentary? But none of these gals would be getting major label backing if it wasn’t for old gal Nickis hard work that y’all love to hate.
Nicki is also the reason why your girl has investment from Atlantic as they compete against other labels for market share in the rap space because no one until now has been able to match the success. Facts.
