Janet Hubert and Phylicia Rashad are most renowned for portraying two of the most iconic Black matriarchs in American television history.
However, outside of their roles as Vivian “Aunt Viv” Banks and Claire Huxtable, they are clearly on opposing sides of one topic – Bill Cosby‘s release from prison.
As reported, the controversial overturning of the fallen star’s conviction for sexual assault drew a polarizing response. Many jaws were left ajar in shock and dismay. Yet, some celebrated the news – with Rashad being one of the most notable.
The backlash that followed her comment was both swift and seismic.
And now ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ star Hubert has weighed in and she did not hold back.

Phylicia should have kept quiet. She has a lot to lose and nothing to gain by supporting him. Yes, his prosecution was wrong based on the law. But he’s still guilty by his own admission.
Nothing to gain? Sure she does. Her legacy as America’s #1 TV black mom. Probably the biggest, most successful black show ever in history. Now They don’t play Cosby show anywhere, anymore. Probably never will. That’s major! It’s tarnished. She probably thought her showing support would repair that tarnished legacy. So when you say she’s got nothing to gain, that’s not true. There is ALWAYS something to gain. ALWAYS! Period! People rarely put their neck out there without a motive. Remember that! And teach it to your kids.
That’s a lie. They still play The Cosby Show on TVone and other networks. It’s also available on streaming platforms. Quit creating your own narrative. Phylicia has that toxic boomer mentality. She’d probably believe a man over her own daughter.

In this current atmosphere, siding with an admitted offender and dismissing the victims can cost you dearly. They’re already calling on Howard U to rescind her new position. Up until now, her legacy as Mrs. Huxtable was unaffected. She had not been associated with his digressions. But now she’s on record aligning herself with him. She has gained nothing and has lessened public opinion of her. She has a LOT to lose.

How is she dismissing all victims? The case was between Bill and Andrea.
She spoke in very general terms and I personally don’t believe that she would have spoken out on his behalf and the sake of justice if she did not fully support him regarding (and regardless of) all of the claims against him.
She never said he was innocent, however he was wrongfully jailed based on the LAW. i get what she is saying. Can’t make a deal , Bill completed his part of the deal, they offered him immunity along with him agreeing to speak the truth about the part he played and agreed to pay a substantial amount of money, which he did. The victims agreed to this as well, therefore, they’re the ones that decided to accept money instead of JUSTICE. His sentence was 3 to 10 years anyway and he damned near did the 3 years although he was not suppose to do a day. Therefore, the disappointment should be towards the PROSECUTOR.
