When it comes to Queen, few can boast rising to the challenge of doing justice to hits by the legendary ‘Under Pressure’ performers. ‘Pressure’ singer Ari Lennox is now among that few.
Putting a soulful spin on their classic ‘A Kind of Magic’ via a live performance in Coca Cola’s newly rebranded Coke Studio, Lennox tapped longtime collaborator Elite to produce the cut that is among seven twists on the tune featured in the 2-minute movie ‘The Conductor’ (which honors the Freddie Mercury-led band).
The other artists secured to deliver renditions of the iconic number are Turkish electro-pop producer Ekin Beril, Latin Urban Pop powerhouse Mariah Angeliq, Nigerian singer-songwriter and producer Tems, Canadian-Indian rapper and producer Tesher, British singer-songwriter Griff, and K-Pop girl band TRI.BE.
“Thank you to my beautiful family at @cocacola for having me take part in their new #RealMagic campaign. Singing Freddie Mercury was such a gift,” wrote Lennox on Instagram.

Queen and Diva do not approve ashy n** head flops 💯🤳🏽💋
She can sing, but THIS IS TERRIBLE. It’s like she’s never heard the original and is completely ignoring those elements that make it special.
Because her huge ego says she knows better…
she’s not singing karaoke. she’s covering it, making it her own. which, in this case, is a stripped down, acoustic take on the song. it was very good!
