Brandy is embarking on her next chapter with a brand new record label.
Easily one of music’s most iconic vocalists, the songbird is now nesting at one of music’s most prestigious imprints.

Moments ago, it was announced that B-Rocka has signed with Motown Records.
The deal serves as Brandy’s first major-label partnership in over a decade and follows the chart-topping indie release of her 2020 album, ‘B7.’
Speaking about signing with Motown, the star said in a statement:
“I’ve always wanted to work with Ethiopia [Habtemariam, Motown’s CEO and chairwoman]. I’ve just always thought that she was just a bad-ass Black woman who loves music, knows music, and I saw her work her way up because she’s so talented. So when I heard that she was who she is now at Motown, I was like, ‘If I ever were to go back to a major label, I would want to work with Ethiopia.’ And it happened.”
She added:
“I used to always wonder when I would watch Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and all of the amazing Motown artists, ‘Would I ever be able to make it in that time? What would I have sounded like on Motown?’ I would have loved to have that Motown sound. And then, years later, I get this opportunity to do this unbelievable partnership with them. And it’s Ethiopia. And it’s Motown. And I’m like, ‘Wow, this is the universe! I’m going with this! I have to go with this.’ They’ve just been so supportive of me.”
There’s new music on the way too in the form of Brandy’s forthcoming 8th album:
“I can’t wait to get started on the music because it’s going to be so refreshing, so different. And I’m just looking forward to singing and listening and learning and growing all over again. I feel like I’m reborn. I feel like I have a whole new energy, a whole new spark, to keep going, to keep moving, and to keep doing what I love to do, which is sing, rap, act and dance.”
Habtemariam said of the deal:
“Brandy is one of the most prolific voices in the history of music. Her contribution to R&B continues to influence newcomers and contemporaries around the world. We are ecstatic to welcome Brandy to the Motown family and eager to join her in making musical history.”

her voice has always been deep and raspy, so I don’t think it fits for Dance pop, Just like Kelis doing EDM which flopped worldwide except for UK. 💅🏾 God! Her voice is deeper than most guys
Kelis on EDM never flopped. People know those songs because they’re popular, they just don’t know it’s Kelis’ voice on those songs.
Brandy’s vocals have been used by DJs for decades now starting with Groove Armada sampling Best Friend. They always go thru her oldies for sampling material so she might as well come up with new songs with these producers.
Deep vocals have been a stylistic choice. Although blessed with husky tones, her voice sits naturally at the Light Lyric Soprano tessitura, as showcased on Never Say Never ballads. To think Toni thinks Brandy is “one of the best Contraltos!” 😝
With a major label should surely mean a bigger budget than B7 which is encouraging. I respect B7 but I only listen to a few songs. Listening to it in full makes me anxious with many songs lacking a melody or overprocessed vocals that sound almost alien. I prefer R&B/pop Brandy and the back half of B7 is closer to that and imo is the more successful alternative R&B sound she was going for. But I will always be interested in whatever Brandy releases.
100% agree. I can respect the fact an artist with so much experience would want to experiment with their craft but B7 as an album is just not it for me.

Huh???? Jazmine sounds nothing like Brandy. If anything she sounds like gospel singer Kim Burrell mixed with some Lauryn Hill, MJB and the Clark Sisters. Her voice is much heavier and brassier than Brandy’s even though that’s one of her favorite vocalists .

Lol everyone always wants something different from Brandy. I for one enjoyed pop Brandy (Human) and I loved the direction she went in with B7 although the album as a whole could use some fine tuning. One thing about her she’s versatile and isn’t afraid to try new things. Most artists from her generation are stuck in their ways and stubborn. Her days of huge commercial success are over she just needs to remain consistent and stop waiting 5 plus years to drop albums…. She has a lane, most of these new R&B artists are using her sound….
