Just two weeks ago Post Malone and Swae Lee saw their ‘Spider-Man’ song, 2018’s ‘Sunflower,‘ planted in the record books of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for reaching 17x Platinum status, making it the highest-certified song in history at the time (hopscotching over former recordholder Lil Nas X in the process).
Thanks to recent refreshment of his certified sales, however, LNX has galloped to back to share the lead spot.
Details inside.
Taking to press Tuesday (November 29), the RIAA revealed the Billy Ray Cyrus-assisted ‘Old’ had reached a new sales threshold. Now boasting 17x Platinum status (the sales equivalent of 17 million in the United States), the song is only the second in history to be certified as high.
He ties the previously 17x Platinum-sitting ‘Sunflower’ for the record of highest-certified song in history.
The news comes just days after his controversial 2021 single, ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name),’ rose in ranks to share the honor of being his second highest-certified single to date with 2019’s 6x Platinum-seller ‘Panini.’
