The legacy of SWV was celebrated in a major way this weekend.
Because not only did the revered R&B ensemble receive the Urban Icon honor at the Black Music Honors, but the ladies were also inducted into The Bronx Walk of Fame.
Members Coko and Lelee, who are New York natives, were joined by bandmate Taj at the ceremony.
Braving the rain and shedding tears of joy, the group were presented with a street named after them.
Full story after the jump…
Speaking on the honor, LeLee said:
“I can’t begin to say how proud we are to be inducted into the 2023 Bronx Walk of Fame. Although, life has taken me far and beyond Nelson Avenue park where I played as a kid —this is where the dream for me began. My playground for most of my young life—as an adult I still carry the X with me with honor and pride. I’m so happy that we’re finally gonna be a part of history and amongst the many reasons why the BRONX is so special!! 🙏🏽 #HighBridge we did it!!!! Derrick D-Nice Jones we did it bro! Remember we talked about this🙏🏽”

The honor comes on the heels of the group’s much-praised stint on the hit Bravo show ‘SWV & Xscape: The Queens of R&B’ and ahead of their forthcoming tour with Jodeci.
Congrats!
ghettos the most
Congrats, Ladies!
We love SWV , but we have over looked so many other Black female groups that paved the way after the Supremes.
Is Taj not from The Bronx too? Why only Coko and LeeLee?
Right!!!
She’s from Brooklyn but it’s still weird. She’s a NYC native too….
Congratulations about time
Looking good ladies you guys came with you A-game look what it got you a star that you are keep grooving you guys look awesome
Congratulations to them! But why leave Taj out? That seemed a little weird! And she was there right next to her bandmates.
Awesome, just wondering why Taj was left off ? Thought they were a trio .
