Monica dropped jaws Friday (June 30) by releasing her new single, ‘Letters,’ with little warning.
Co-penned by fellow GRAMMY winner Ciara, the tune – reportedly among the gems set to line her long-awaited ninth studio album ‘Trenches‘ – tells the tale of missing the love of a man serving a prison sentence – a tale many know is close to Mo’s personal story.
“Тhеу ѕее уоu аnd ѕее а thug / І ѕее уоu аnd ѕее mу lоvе / Yоu rоll uр thеу runnіng ѕсаrеd / Вut mе І’m runnіng tо уоu wіth mу fеаrѕ / Аіn’t fоund nо оnе thаt саn mеаѕurе uр tо уоu,” she croons on the Tasha Catour-produced cut.
Just hours after she began raking in critical acclaim for the new cut, the songstress lifted the lid on its official accompanying music video starring Rap superstar The Game.
Conceptually reminiscent of her 2004 smash hit ‘U Should’ve Known Better’ (starring rapper Young Buck), see the cinematic ‘Letters’ visual inside.

Okay, it’s growing on me now. I like how the videos aesthetic is similar to the ‘trenches’ video. It’s great that as an independent artist now, the quality of what she puts out is not compromised.

Is this a single or just another “track” …. It’s okay, kind of basic and generic however her album release date should be announced shortly. I mean it’s only been 6 years since she started to tease “Chapter 38” . Enough stalling, drop the album & I hope the material on there is stronger than what she’s been putting out there.

If she’s trying to expand to the younger generation, I get it. But we can’t say that this is not authentically who she is. I’m hoping that once we get the full album, the jermaine, Missy and Bryan songs come together nicely with the more modern sounding cuts.

Ciara was one of many writers on this song. Ciara has writing credits on a bunch of artists’ songs – recent & long ago. She just never gets any public recognition for it. And if this is about Future, there’s no emotion. The song is blah.

This dry azzz song won’t make a splash anywhere not even on the urban AC charts. Monica’s already 40+ she could drop some quality music at minimum but she too busy trying to be trap queen hood princess at her big old age. It’s not cute or endearing.
