It’s finally here! The video for Jennifer Lopez‘s latest single ‘Papi’ premiered moments ago! As ever, we got that good good for you first.

In an era dominated by ‘generic’, Lopez and director Paul Hunter get kudos for not dabbling with the expected treatment (see: club). What’s more, the incorporation of the MTV-heyday dance break was a great touch too.
Unfortunately that’s where the ‘good’ starts and stops. At least for the most part.
Echoing earlier sentiments; between the shameless Fiat plugs, odd-cam angles, and lack of ample choreography, the clip seems confused as to whether it wants to be a commercial, mini-movie, or music video. And, as with all output that tries to do too much, it does nothing particularly well.
With her ‘LOVE?’ LP having only sold 257,000 copies Stateside to date, Ms. Lopez needed this to be a slam-dunk. However, she’ll need a miracle of Biblical proportions if this is to resuscitate the album. Missed opportunity.

That was SOOOOOOO epic!!!A real mini-movie like it’s supposed to be!!She delivered definetely!!I really didn’t expect it, but this video was amazing!!!Everything is perfect from the choreo to the tricks to the stunts to the acting, everything!!WOW!I am more than impressed!

That wasn’t a cop. That was her boyfriend, lol. She was missing him at the beginning of the video and he came home and “rescued” her at the end.
I’m sorry but this song is pure garbage to my ears. It will most definitely not get me to buy her album or single. Some parts in the video was funny… however I had a few “is this all necessary?” moments during what seems to be a long ass commercial for a freakish cookie.

1)This is a mini-movie and it slays and I’m not even a J Lo stan (hardly a fan either)d, but everything is amazing in the clip.
2)’Love?’ has had no promo and almost 300k for 1 performance and 2 singles is solid.
3)I have noticed that her choreos have been rather lacklustre, but at the same time I remember your blog praising ‘On The Floor’ and ‘I’m Into You’ saying that she is one of the few that can still do her moves and that she delivered.What changed??
Anyway, to respond to the question, the drum pattern on ‘OTF’ did not help her pull off real choreo and ‘I’m Into You’ had a different video concept and the dancing she did with the borrowed ‘Papi’ beat was out of place in that video too.I cannot blame her for this video either because the choreo had to be simple for all those everyday people (non-professionals) to follow it.Her tricks and her flexibility showed and her technique was amazing.

after watching the video, i’m shocked. i read the comments before i saw it so i expected it to be a complete flop, total mess, but then i watched it & i really liked it, i thought it was funny, engaging, totally different not only to j.lo’s other videos but to all music videos that are out right now, i can’t see the song making a big impact on the love? album sales but i don’t think any video or single from the album would have much impact, if a huge hit like on the floor couldn’t move albums then singles 3 and 4 rant going to do anything, but all in all i think the video is a hit, well done ms. lopez

I think you are being way too harsh! The song is catchy. The video was fun – definitely made me smile and laugh a few times. J.Lo looked great and brought out the dance break. And, like you, I appreciate that it wasn’t set in a club. Very entertaining. I say good job!!

You guys are delusional! This mini movies is amazing! Of course it is a mini movie and if Justin Timberlake can do it so can Jlo. This is hilarious, the acting is great, and I loved the originality. The best part was all the people jumping everywhere and I loved how she could control the men around her. My husband is deployed and I feel a great connection to this whole video and that has not happened in the music industry in a long time. It’s a great video!

I didn’t really understand at the beginning but towards the end I understood what the video was about. The dancing was great and I liked that there was a storyline and it was something different.
