Drake Teases With ‘Take Care’ Promo Video

Published: Thursday 20th Oct 2011 by Rashad
‘They know, they know, they know…they know, they know, they know’.

As emo rap posterchild Drake has seen his name in Headlinesmore for Rihanna romance than rapping lately, the question appeared to become ‘who are they’ and ‘what do they know?’ The lead single from the rapper’s forthcoming ‘Take Care’ album, originally due October 24th, was slipping down charts even after its accompanying visual debuted.  However, an SNL appearance (and more promo to come) slowly but surely seems to be turning the tide for the Torontoian.

Perhaps to speed up the process, the Young Money emcee has begun releasing promo videos to build buzz and take care of the slack.  The parent album, now set for a November 15 release, will host features from heavyweights like Rick Ross, Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, Nicki Minaj, and even R&B legend Stevie Wonder.

Until then, you can see Drizzy in action after the jump:

Though not quite the reception the rapper got during his inaugural period, his buzz is still fair and has time to gain ground.  However, given Drake’s increased number of headlines circling ‘getting his heart broken by Rihanna’ and ’embracing his emo rap style’, critics are questioning his persona – better put, ‘street cred’.  Today’s hip-hop arena (unfortunately) does not allow much room for men to deviate far from the hyper-masculine stereotype of misogyny and misfitting.  Those who do, are often branded ‘fake’, ‘weak’, or even ‘gay’.

While the Torontoian is certainly tip-toeing on that territory (even crossing it by some accounts), his fanbase still seems fairly intact.  If his sales will suffer as a result thereof, however, remains to be seen.

Are you checking for Drake this go-round or do you think he’ll suffer a sophomore slump?

Your thoughts?

Yep, that’s what the industry has come to *Deep sigh*. Man, I hope Drake took advantage of the time he had off to evolve. This man is talking about “Thank Me Later”….a year has passed, and I still haven’t thanked his ass yet.

    @WORD

normally im on the “getting TGJ in check” train, but clearly you did not read what Sam wrote.

he said it was SLOWLY BUT SURELY going up the charts. a couple of weeks ago the s*** was #23 on the charts going DOWN. only since he did that show with nicki minaj and released the video has it starting goin back up. that’s what the phrase “turned the tide” means

Drake has fallen off. It’s BY NO MEANS about hyper-masculinity OR stereotypes; that’s just an excuse that doesn’t make much sense to me.If Drake had come back rapping his ass off, he would be slaying, but ‘Headlines’ is WEAK lyrically, production wise, in terms of visuals, in every damn aspect. It has NOTHING to do with his image and profile. He can come across as a softie, but if he’s a GOOD rapper he’s still going to be successful.

Anyway, Drake was never a big singles seller (or a big albums seller besides the 1st and 2nd week 😉 ), so there’s nothing for him to worry about NOW.His album is going to debut at No.1 selling more than 300k (but less than his debut) and it’s going to have a relatively good chart run in the top 20.That said, imo, he needs to start worrying about his future, because with this album he’s still cashing in on his debut’s buzz, but what about the 3rd album?

@ ASAP (As Sincere As Possible) How Is That Drake Has 2 Platinum Singles 2 Gold Of His Own & Out Of Them 4 One Is A Feature From TML. & Has 3 Platinum Feture Singles & 3 Gold So How Isn’t He A Singles Seller ??? Explain……
P.S. Here’s The Proof http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drake_discography & If You “Think” Wikipedia Is Lying Check RIAA

^^I don’t remember asking for chart statistics…Anyway, when I said that Drake isn’t a singles seller I meant that he’s not the person you’d expect to have 3 No.1’s in a row like the popstars. The funny part is that you probably responded because you thought I was shading him, but this particular part of my comment that you adressed was probably the only positive thing I said about him; that he doesn’t need to have any worries about the album’s chart run just because ‘Headlines’ isn’t top 10 😉

ill prob be downloading …i buy your s*** if ireally respect you but with drake i just dont know if he will go hard the whole album or if it will be mostly marvins room type cuts because if it is i def wont be feeling it

  15. swagg October 21, 2011

s/n i dont mind the singing but do a chris brown trey songz type rnb record they sound harder and not so in they feelings/soft on they rnb cuts than drake does

Hell no! People have been waiting on Drake to come back no other rapper is making the music he makes. I’m buying Take Care and I can’t wait. As far as critics taking shots at his “emo style” they can f off. People can be so narrow minded. Drake never claimed to have street cred anyway.
