Lady GaGa’s ‘Marry The Night’ Scores US #1

Published: Sunday 15th Jan 2012 by David

Much like looking for a needle in a hay stack, Lady GaGa has found obtaining an impressive chart position for her single ‘Marry The Night‘ a long hard and tedious task.

Now however, this week saw the arrivals of news that will give both she and her ever loyal fan base cause to breathe a sigh of relief.

The single has finally gotten to #1.

Full story below…

Rising to the top of Billboard’s Dance/Club Play Songs after failing to do so on the Billboard Hot 100, the release marks the twelfth time the songbird has topped the chart and the fifth  single from her latest LP ‘Born This Way‘  to reside at this position.

The single’s success on the chart comes weeks after the ‘Black Jesus‘ belter revealed 2012 would see the release of her fourth studio album, just one year the release of ‘Born’ which has sold 5.4 million copies worldwide to date.

Well done GaGa!

Sam,I am a Gaga stan but let’s keep it real

Marry the night did NOT do well.Partially because the song is just not radio friendly.Personally,I think Electric Chapel>>>>>>>>>>>>MTN but whatever.

Anyway Gaga,Scheisse or Heavy Metal Lover should be the next single.

  8. p**** pop(i love it when you eat it) January 15, 2012

B**** IS FLOPING!!! N1 ON THE DANCE/CLUB CHART DOESN’T COUNT. THIS SINGLE IS STILL HER BIGGEST FLOP YET ONLY REACHING N29 ON THE HOT 100!!
SHE NEED’S TO RELEASE SCHISSE AND HAIR (HER ONLY HITS ON THIS ALBUM) AND WRAP S*** WITH THIS HIDEOUS AND MESSY ALBUM..

  9. the one and only miss perrylicious January 15, 2012

    does it count?
    make it real… it’s flop.
The single nowhere to be seen on Top 20.
    It’s flop! flop!…flop! 🙂

and i bet, her selling numbers for the next album will be lower than BTW.
    she’s fading. So fast.

  14. There is enough place for every artist – Stans stop hating others January 15, 2012

I think she really needs a BREAK. For a year at least, or 1,5 year.

She is a workaholic (like I am, so I know her situation).
She released too much music in the past 3 years.

I adore Born This Way album, I think its singles deserved bigger succes, most of the songs are way better than her previous releases, but she was too much and she was everywhere in the past 3 years, and people are fed up with it and don’t want to hear anything from Gaga for a year. Then she came back with new power, etc.

  15. TruthTeller January 15, 2012

I can’t believe I actually agree with Perrylicious.

TGJ looks so stupid right now with their pathetic bias.
Dance/Club charts is where flops go to be #1.

    It is well known.

Trying to make it sound she got a REAL #1 in US @sam ?!

seriously and i like gaga , this single is a flop from the start ! we all know it since she chose it as the next single after ” Y&I”. the BTW era is coming to an end and the DUMB h** didn’t release the album’s best tracks.

Releasing a song like “EOG” and leaving a real #1 HIT(s) in the pending-state as “GH” , “S” and “HML” !!!

what do u call this ?!

    Stupidity. 😡

and she just don’t wait till the single do it’s effect on the ppl. like “JUDAS” could have done so much better if she didn’t release that Messy and Basic single ” EOG” !

on this particular topic. she should take notes from KATY PERRY. the b**** wait till the single reach to it’s expiration date and release the next one. not like what GaGa ” AND beyonce” did in their ERAS ! 😡

i don’t Use Club and dance charts. no one care about those kind of charts. if it is not ” the main” chart. no one will Give a s*** if it was #1 or #1233339494949.

i LIKE ” MTN” though and i already Bought the Ep !

GaGa : stop trying with that “MTN” , ppl don’t like IT. u did wonders and still No real #1 with it. 😥
    U got the message ?!

PPL don’t feel it. as simple as this stefani 😡 😥 😥 😥
release another one of those HITS in the pending-state already 😡 , FOLLOW ME DON’T BE SUCH A HOLY FOOL 😆

  18. ARYO January 15, 2012

heavy metal lover should be the next single, its a fan favorite

  19. IT’S ALL GOOD!!! January 15, 2012

  20. ARYO January 15, 2012

so true, gaga f***** everything up with not choosing the right songs as singles

  21. YOOSONDALOOSE January 15, 2012

The Dance/Club chart? What? That is easy to get the top of. Call me when it’s Billboard Hot 100. It deserves it.

  22. Minajesty January 15, 2012

i liked her 2008-2009 but then she turnt into madonna.

  23. Yo MAMA January 15, 2012

STILL NOT #1 ON BB HOT 100!!! STOP FOOLING PEOPLE. DANCE CHART IS NOT THE SAME, NEXT….

  24. CherylColeRulesWithStyleAndGrace January 15, 2012

your laughing at GaGa when she’s outselling 4 AND Talk That Talk.

    a #1 on a dance chart is still a #1.
Beyonce gets #1 albums but not a #1 single, Rihanna gets #1 singles but not a #1 album, GaGa gets both.

  25. X,Y,”and Z” January 15, 2012

    @TGJ staff —

re: “long hard and tedious task(s)”

It took, Sam/TGJ’s favorite daughter, the 30-something-year-old Kelly Rowland, some FIVE MONTHS to push “Motivation” to #1 on the R&B Charts!

I’m in no way a Gaga fan/supporter, but it seems Sam/TGJ staff has casually placed a thumb on that ‘Blind Lady’s’ scale, no? Reason being, if we were to further investigate, I’m sure we’d find that “Motivation” was anything but, as it took those Five LOOOONG, said-mentioned months, to reach #1. I’m absolutely certain that infinity was the longest of/for ANY song (to go #1) on ANY 2010-2011 chart!

    X,Y,”and Z” — OUT..!!

  26. zed January 15, 2012

these posts from the grape juice are so misleaing…i agree with every comment thats its only the dance/club charts, its not the official number 1! i mean it cant be US number 1 since it isnt even within top 20 of US billboard chart and not even within top 40 US itunes chart! im sure if u looked down the club/dnce charts u wouldnt even recognise any song out of the top 10 in this chart since its dance/club songs! stop pretending shes made a huge hit from this record cuz if anything its her worst single so far and she aready hurrying for another album. thats desperate! she should take a break and then come back in a few years time and then she is likey to get a huge number 1 single. no.1 officially in USA at the moment is Rihanna but hopefully adele will climb up and knock her off with set fire to the rain!

  27. KAT DELUNA FAN January 15, 2012

  29. MissImpartial January 15, 2012

Even the Gaga fans probably won’t claim that this song is a success. Sam really knows how to get people click on an article which you might have avoided.

I am actually glad Marry the Night didn’t do well. It was a good splash of cold water to Gaga’s face. Now she will sit down, revamp herself. Give us better singles and better videos. Her single choices for this era have not been wise, and her videos need to come back to earth a little more. I stan her, but I am a fan who keeps it real nomatter what artist I am talking about.
    Her singles should have went:

    Feb. Born This Way
    April. Sheisse
Jul. Americano (remixed to be more ‘radio friendly’)
    BREAK
Oct. Bloody Marry(altered just a little)
    Dec. The Edge of Glory
    ect.

Get it together Mother Monster! muah PAWS UP

  31. AmbeRussell January 15, 2012

@ X,Y,”and Z” kelly rowland isnt sitting on the same empire as gaga. gaga has a HUGE fan base. gaga has how many twitter followers over kelly? kelly may have took forever to get a #1 on the hiphop&rnb chart, but that is more credible than the dance charts. n it was #1 for a few weeks and motivation also peaked in the top 20 on billboard. motivation isnt a pop/dance song, that would do well on the mainstream charts n radio stations. they werent playing it non stop on z100(a top 40 new york radio station). gaga performed that song EVERYWHERE. kelly main thing was the bet awards n a few late night shows. gaga was at award shows, new years, etc., a 14min long video and ppl just were not feeling it.
what gaga needs to do is get over herself n stop assuming her s*** dont stink. she needs to STOP trying n just do. trying to be epic wont make u epic. n she needs to realize not every1 is gonna like her music. n she might need to tone it down a whole lot more. ppl didnt like how weird she was at the vmas, besides her monsters. she needs to stop forcing herself down ppl’s throughs, i mean she was on 106 n park. yes she has black fans, but she doesnt make bet music to be on there.

  32. I am so bored with Lady Reductive January 15, 2012

Lady Reductive : the cheapest, most reductive, redundant, desperate wannabe in the history of Earth.

    zzzzzz

Lady Reductive will release a new album in 2012 already. I bet she’ll call it “Born To Be A Desperate Fame-Obsessed Idiot”. It’ll be sold in stores for 25 cents.

There is nothing more to add about Lady Caca. She will self-destruct her wannabe, newbie @ss.

  33. Delusion January 15, 2012

Hahahaha. Is this news a parody? Pathetic. That’s all it can muster, a number one on the least relevant chart. Even the Latin charts are more relevant than this.

Well done little cretins, now you can dance it in the clubs, LOL. Now, back to reading the real hot 100 charts. Oh wait, it’s still Rihanna there by the way. Who else is in the charts: Adele, Katy Perry, Jay-z, Drake, Maroon 5 feat Xtina, even Selena Gomez is in the top 30. All them s*** over this single, wahahahahahahahahaha.

  34. Delusion January 15, 2012

The album of the decade gets sold for 99cents and gets singles to chart at the dance charts, wahahahahahaha.

As far as I know, albums of the decade, like MJ’s Thriller, should sell more than 20million worldwide & have at least 5 number 1 singles on the reall hot 100 chart. If BTW was album of the decade, then the people of the decade has such low tastes & expectations.

Little cretins, stop bitching on this post & download this pathetic song now. Or maybe you’re waiting for it to be sold at 5cents?

  35. Delusion January 15, 2012

Actually, this is a good chart for Caca. Her companions on this chart are her equals: Taio Cruz, Deborah C**, Traci Lords, Erika Jayne, Wynter Gold, Ultra Nate, etc.

    WHO?

    @Wig Snatcher

I don’t know. I don’t think the song or the video were particularly bad. Yeah, the video might have been too long, but that’s because it was meant to be epic, and it was, in terms of sheer grandeur and scope. But when you put that kind of effort into a song and it doesn’t smash . . . it’s a problem.

I don’t know. I sometimes wonder what’s more important to her stans, Gaga’s pop supremacy or her craft. Mary the Night song and video were quality. The single flopping is no reason to get so hot and bothered, especially when you know that another hit is going to come down the pike sooner or later, if not from this era, then her next.

You don’t see the Navy getting pressed over You Da One not smashing like WFL.

  39. NAUDISWEET (Xtina Stan) January 15, 2012

Idk what people want from her. I loved Judas, i thought that song was fire, and could have done bigger things. It was however marketed wrong, and she gave up on it too quickly. She still has other great songs like HML, Scheibe, and Government Hooker. My vote is for Scheibe, but any of the three would be great.

  40. VintageKid! January 15, 2012

    Well Done GaGa!

    IDK to be honest.

I want her to have a long career in the end.I’m not really mad at the song flopping on the charts, like others may be,but i’m not overestimating her downfall like some of her detractors.I’m not really mad, everyone has flops -icons included,it’s just that Gaga decided to have one now

  42. JohnVidal January 15, 2012

Gaga had more succes in 3 years than your favs in almost a decade and you atill calling her a flop… ok then 🙂
Also, it´s soooooooo easy to say this was right or this was wrong (about singles choices) once it already happened. I would love to see you all making the decisions…
And also, Marry the night= best video of 2011! Stay pressed
And also… Born this way>>> Tha Fame
And also… how is it that somebody here said how can BTW be nominated for album of the year over K. West…. what? the question is how is Rihanna over K. West honey… that´s stupid shade

  43. ♛ pop royalty ♛ ( The BeyHive ) January 15, 2012

i’m not at mad at gaga flopping. i’m mad at her stupidity.

and i don’t think i hated on her in my comment. i was saying she is being stupid with each single she’s releasing. even her hardcore fan agree that the BTW is having stupidity all over it ” not her sane fans TBH , i just want ppl who are not afraid to point to their fav’s flaws” !

she’s fine. but she’s VOLATILE to me still 😡

best Vid in 2011 is not ” marry the night” dear @John , i know u go hard for her , but don’t get dreamy 😡

Judas can be my fav vid of her in 2011 😛 ! MTN is not “IT” for the casual gaga fans to even begin with.

    JUDAS >>>> ” deal ” 😉

and the fame ” is cohesive” that’s why ppl prefer it to “BTW” , but i consider “BTW’ is her “growing up” as an artist and i like the album as a whole , but i can’t love some tracks in it like ” the queen” for example. and in “BTW” , every track got so much noise in it , like a lot of s*** is going on in the background of every track ” judas is an example , hair is another noisy track , etc … ” ! that’s why ppl don’t like BTW that much.
on the other way , “the fame” was just EAR-friendly 😆 to say the least. tracks like ” LOvegame” , “paparazzi” and my fav gaga song “poker face” >>>>
    electro-pop at it’s best !! 🙂 , not noise and s*** like in “BTW” 😡

  44. ERIC January 15, 2012

No wonder it topped that chart. The remixes are amazing!

haha it´s the best vid of 2011 you fool!!! Tell me only one better (apart from Judas)… oh don´t tell me, I already know… RTW? Ok I give it the 3rd position if you want 🙂

i personally think sam should not post things unless its #1 on billboard hot 100

  49. Saetana January 16, 2012

Umm, Born This Way was the 2nd best selling album WORLDWIDE last year (Adele was 1st), f*** America! Yep, Gaga is really flopping hard, in your dreams! I couldn’t care less about her singles, I’d rather she settled down to be a great album artist rather than a singles one, yes its great to have both but not many manage it for any length of time and Marry was the 5th single off the album. I don’t know why everyone puts so much stock in the Billboard chart when only 40% of the chart rankings comes from REAL singles and album sales (digital and physical), sales are what count not their weird-ass formula that includes everything from airplay to media exposure. But, if you want to take the Billboard chart, Marry is her 12th consecutive single to go No 1 on the dance chart.

Its a shame about Marry though, its a great song, no idea why it didn’t go down well in the US but so far as the UK is concerned it was bad timing – releasing a song like that in December is idiotic when half the chart is made up of old and new Christmas songs, charity songs, the X-Factor winner and all the anti-X-Factor songs as well, she should have waited until January to release it (or got it out earlier in November). Her release timing for the Born This Way campaign has been shite, she released the title track on a f****** Friday when the chart is compiled on a Sunday, it sold plenty as it ended up in the top 20 selling songs for 2011 but it only hit No 5 (it was there for a while though), she could easily have got a No 1 with a Monday release.

    • KATY PERRY FTW September 5, 2012

BTW debutted at #1 , you moron , but i agree that her timings are all bad

  50. Theman January 16, 2012
