Hosting a live visual of her greatest hits (and gems from acclaimed album ‘4’), the album also contains official video accompaniment to most of the songs on the parent album.  And, as ‘Countdown’ and ‘Love On Top’ quickly became fan favorites, Bey’s succeeding venture ‘Party’ (featuring J. Hot mama! ‘Touch My Body’ diva Mariah Carey has taken every opportunity to show off her new body as she makes her rounds as the new spokesperson for ‘Jenny’.  Exciting her ever-faithful legion of fans, Roc and Roe’s mom tweeted this photo of her hard at work at her forthcoming, yet-titled album (the follow-up to 2009’s quickly forgotten ‘Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel’).

With claims that ‘pregnancy has made her voice stronger’, here’s hoping that ol Mimi can deliver on that claim.  For it is certainly unbecoming of a diva whose vocals once soared to the high heavens and shattered windows on Mt. Olympus to back-track and autotune her way through generic R&B hits.  While the world anxiously awaits her return, we definitely hope the singer is collecting an assortment of producers who can help her remain relevant with contemporary R&B while reviving the sound that made her famous in the first place.

Since her well documented arrival on the music scene four years ago, Ms. Onika Maraj has found it impossible to escape polarized opinion.

Revolutionary to some whilst repulsive to others, it wasn’t long before she had found her way to the forefront of Urban culture for more than just her animated lyrical style and Pro-beauty approach to her aesthetic.

Lending her talents to the likes of Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera and Kanye West all before the release of her record-breaking LP ‘Pink Friday‘, the former waitress built up a fan base of keyboard happy mini-me’s who unknowingly helped her publicists to turn the entertainer into a social media magnet.

YouTube and Twitter being responsible for the acquistion of many of her international fans who were not yet able to access her in their own domestic market.

With her debut album now the third highest selling LP to be released by a female artist for 2010/2011, Nicki Minaj is undeniably Rap’s most celebrated sensation.

However, seemingly in sync with the consistency of her record sales is one undying criticism of her.

That she is inauthentic.

That Nicki Minaj is nothing more than a gimmick with a Mattelic heartbeat.

With the annual holiday season upon us, it’s only natural that labels have targeted this window for their biggest releases this year; few of such records are bigger than Rihanna and Mary J. Blige‘s latest efforts –‘Talk That Talk’ and ‘My Life II: The Journey Continues’.

Beacons of different generations, Rihanna is currently breathing out #1 singles, while Blige  has seen the latter part of her career bring with it unsurmountable album sales.

And, as they prepare to duke it out on the Billboard 200 this week, we can’t but note how significant this “duel” of sorts is.

For, beyond it being the first “proper” Urban chart spar this year, it comes at a time when Ms. Fenty desperately needs to prove she can hold her own as an album seller (if the smoke she calls a career is to ever truly be legitimised). It comes at a time when Mary’s singles are struggling to do much on the Hot 100. And, above all, it comes at a time when the public are becoming more savvy and selective with who they spend their $$££ on.

So, in of course knowing that the real winner will always be Universal Music (who serve as the recording home for both ladies), we’re still keen to know…

Who will you be buying?

Disclaimer: Yes, we know Michael Jackson‘s ‘Immortal’ also hits stores today. However, as the biggest of MJ supporters, we’ll only pay attention when the estate give fans what they really want – new material. Not “re-imagined” versions of past hits. Please and thank you.
