Alongside the long-awaited premiere of the Aretha Franklin biopic, the Jennifer Hudson-led ‘Respect,’ came its equally anticipated soundtrack (as we reported here).
An 18-track affair, the project sees Hudson tackle some of Franklin’s most prized hits – including ‘Think,’ ‘I Say a Little Prayer,’ ‘Ain’t No Way,’ and, of course, ‘Respect.’ Yet, the effort’s bid for an Original Song Academy Award comes courtesy of the Gospel-tinged ‘Here I Am (Singing My Way Home).’
Dropped the same day as its parent project (August 13), the black-and-white clip sees Hudson revisit The New Temple Missionary Baptist Church – the very location Aretha recorded her iconic ‘Amazing Grace’ album in 1972.
