The BET Awards 2021 are almost upon us. So, it’s fitting that the first list of performers has been unveiled. 

In a major move, this year’s ceremony – which boasts the theme ‘Year of the Black Woman’ – will mark the most ever performances on the televised broadcast.

Just hours after sharing the tracklist to her long-awaited debut album, ‘Back of My Mind’ (as we reported here), Academy and GRAMMY Award-winning songstress H.E.R. unveils yet another listen to tunes that line the project.

Titled ‘My Own,’ the song tells the tale of trying one’s hardest to resist the advances of Mr. Wrong.

“Baby, I can’t take no more from you / I don’t wanna play no more / Know we goin’ back and forth on me / I be all ready, on call / Even when I know it’s wrong from me / Somethin’, I don’t know, but it’s somethin’ / I don’t wanna work for somethin’ knowin’ it ain’t worth it,” she coos on the spacey track.

Despite rendering two multiPlatinum singles – ‘Yummy’ and ‘Intentions’ (featuring Quavo) – Justin Bieber‘s 2020 era, ‘Changes,’ was widely regarded a failure when compared to the mega-success of the efforts that preceded it.

Quickly abandoned (in some part due to the global health crisis as well), the era’s successor – 2021’s ‘Justice’ – has proven in more ways than one it’s picking up the slack.
