Jhené Aiko had the comeback year many artists only dream about.

Counted out by many after the commercial failure of her sophomore album, 2017’s ‘Trip,’ the R&B diva bounced back better than ever with 2020’s ‘Chilombo’ – the year’s best-selling R&B project.

Spawning 4 Platinum singles in the process, the LP – thanks to a little help from its deluxe edition – also boasts becoming the beauty’s first Platinum-certified album in the United States, a measure that denotes sales equivalence of 1 million in the country.

With all those brag-worthy stats to its credit, fans and industry analysts alike were sure the LP would land at least one of the three GRAMMYs it was nominated for at the 2021 ceremony – especially after she hosted one of the event’s pre-shows.

Unfortunately, such was not the case.

In 2016, Taylor Swift made GRAMMY history when she scored her second Album of the Year win – that time for her blockbuster 2014 LP, ‘1989.’

Joining an elite group of acts who have won the night’s most prestigious honor more than once over their respective careers, Swift became the first female artist to win the gold more than once as a lead performer (following career wins from Norah Jones, Lauryn Hill, and Alison Krauss who had previously won multiple times as performers, producers, and/or songwriters).

Fast forward to 2021, Swift can now boast sole ownership of the most Album of the Year wins among female acts as the main credited performer, songwriter, and producer as she’s won the golden gramophone again!

From The Vault is back this week with a GRAMMY moment for the ages.

Let’s journey back to the year 1988 when Michael Jackson delivered one of his most iconic performances during music’s biggest night.

MJ ‘s seventh studio effort ‘Bad’ was one of 1987’s biggest blockbusters. Indeed the album achieved the unprecedented feat of having seven Top 20 singles, including a record-breaking five consecutive #1 Billboard Hot 100.

With four nominations in ’88, he took the stage to sing a medley of two of the album’s biggest hits, ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’ and ‘Man In The Mirror.’

Dressed in a blue shirt, white tee, black pants, and his signature combo of white socks and black loafers combo, he started off slow with a cabaret incarnation of ‘Feel’ before bursting into a reenactment of the video, complete with love interest and dance squad on deck.

For ‘Mirror,’ he quite literally took it to church and made sure to turn his mic on by the end of his high-octane performance to make sure everybody caught the Holy Spirit.

This showing is a prime example of everything Michael was and could be: entertaining yet thought-provoking, in control but also vulnerable.

Though the odds seemed to be in his favor, that night Mike went home empty-handed.

Still, this should serve as inspiration to all of these acts: ‘Bad’ is one the most renowned project of pop culture, and its legacy is the win in and of itself.

Ungodly is just one of many choice words Chloe x Halle fans are using to describe the duo’s unceremonious shut out at the 2021 GRAMMYs.

After scoring their highest charting efforts on the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 respectively with their sophomore album, 2020’s ‘Ungodly Hour,’ and its lead single, ‘Do It,’ the sister act expectedly earned multiple nominations at the show’s 63rd annual edition.

What wasn’t expected was that they’d be going home empty-handed before the show even started.

Burna Boy celebrated his colossal win at the 2021 GRAMMYs with an equally as big performance.

The African Giant bagged the award for Best Global Music Album for his latest effort ‘Twice As Tall.’

Taking to the stage at the Pre-Show Premiere Ceremony, the star blazed with a rousing medley comprised of ‘LevelUp,’ ‘Onyeka,’ and much-loved bop ‘Ye.’

Watch Burna ignite like only he can after the jump…

“Historic” seems to be the theme of the 63rd annual GRAMMY Awards.

In just the pre-show alone, the ceremony’s broken its record books wide open by handing out unprecedented awards to the likes of Tiffany Haddish, Billie Eilish, Megan Thee Stallion, Blue Ivy Carter (daughter of Beyonce), and more (as we’ve reported here).  And if the recently reported wins are anything to judge by, they’re not stopping any time soon.

See how Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande have been granted access to GRAMMY history books inside:

It’s been nearly 27 years since Rap legend Nas burst onto the scene with his iconic debut album, ‘Illmatic.’

In the time since, the rapper – now 47-years-old – has become a mainstay in the upper rankings of critics’ ‘best ever’ lists among his Hip Hop peers.

Despite being no stranger to acclaim, Nas (born Nasir Jones) has never been awarded a golden grammophone from the Recording Academy.

At the 63rd annual edition of the ceremony, that changed.
