Despite making an enemy out of many of his contemporaries in and outside of the music business, 6ix9ine‘s success has endured to almost puzzling heights.

The impetus behind his popularity has become a muse for filmmakers who have sought to bring his childhood story and tale of his meteoric rise to fame to the small screen via two separate, unrelated documentaries – Hulu’s ’69: The Saga of Danny Hernandez’ and Showtime’s ‘Supervillain: The Making of Tekashi 6ix9ine.’ While the latter isn’t due until next year, the former hit screens this week to critical acclaim.

Yet, for all the fanfare it’s generated there’s one who is unlikely to be imparting a standing ovation: the rapper himself.

It’s a good week to be 6ix9ine.

After Showtime announced they were hard-at-work on ‘Supervillain,’ a documentary about his troubled life and rise to fame, Hulu unveiled their non-fictional account of his life via the Vikram Gandhi-directed film, ’69:  The Saga of Danny Hernandez’ this week (click here to watch the trailer).

As if the critical acclaim that’s accompanied the latter isn’t enough to celebrate, the Recording Industry of America (RIAA) has given the rapper (born Daniel Hernandez) yet another reason.

6ix9ine is easily one of the most polarizing Pop culture figures of the last decade.

Despite commanding one of the industry’s most devoted fan bases among rappers, a great percentage of supporters and practitioners of the genre have also taken a collective stance against him – namely for his reported cultural appropriation and highly documented legal woes.

His intriguing story caught the eye of the good folks at Showtime who, in turn, have made him the subject of a three-episode docuseries called ‘Supervillian.’

Detailing the rise of the former deli clerk-turned-chart topping rapper, ‘Supervillian’ offers a never-before-seen look into the life of the rainbow-haired hitmaker (born Daniel Hernandez) through his own lens as well as others who know intimate details of his tale.

Smile is probably the last thing dedicated fans of Katy Perry, affectionately known as #Katycats, will do once they cop a gander of the latest Billboard 200.

The diva’s latest LP, ‘Smile,’ is noticeably absent from the hitlist despite assistance from an aggressive promotional campaign that saw her not only launch multiple buzz and official singles in its support but also perform at or be featured in a host of top-named television programs, Web or print outlets, and more.

Unlisted on the album chart’s newest edition printed this week, the departure from the tally (in what would’ve been its fifth week) comes as the shortest stay any of her major label studio projects have experienced to date.

Among the last month’s high profile releases, her brief tenancy was bested only by serial hitmaker 6ix9ine.

Billboard buoyancy certainly isn’t a theme in the latest chapter of ‘Tattletales,’ the sophomore studio album of 6ix9ine.

The effort, which dropped September 4, made fans drop jaws after industry analysts downgraded its original 150,000 unit first-week sales prediction to 50,000 – a measure he bested when the set premiered at #4 on the Billboard 200 with figures of 53,000 attached (click here to read more).

Peruse of the refreshed album chart show its residency in the tally’s top 10 was short-lived, however.  See what we mean inside:

Indeed, as reported, the LP has registered progressively slower (and lower) sales as the tracking week progressed.

Now, after alleging that streaming platforms aren’t supporting the project, the controversial rapper has taken a hands-on (or should we say, hand-out) – approach to promotion.

Taking to the streets, the MC gave passers by his album…for free.

6ix9ine isn’t holding back.

The rapper sat down with The Shade Room, where he talked about how much he spends on each of his lace fronts and why he isn’t a snitch.

6ix9ine‘s not unaware of the running joke about his status as a ‘snitch’ – a predicament he waxed honest about in a recent interview with FOX 5 New York.

Hot on the promo trail for his sophomore album, ‘Tattletales’ (click here to stream), the project’s title serves as his attempt to hit back at enduring ridicule he’s suffered since cooperating with federal agents to uncover the alleged illegal practices of his former Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods associates.

Said cooperation helped encourage his own release from jail (alongside being “high risk” for COVID-19 as we reported here).  The hit rapper followed his prison run by going into a 4-month stint on home incarceration under the GPS supervision of a probation officer.

Throughout the ordeal, 6ix9ine says he suffered a number of mental health challenges including a depression that led him to suicide contemplation.
