Despite an impressive debut sales week from Beyonce‘s highly anticipated 6th album ‘Lemonade,’ pop icon Prince will still see a purple reign over next week’s refreshed Billboard album charts.

As reported here, his albums ‘The Very Best of Prince’ and ‘Purple Rain’ are #1 and #2 this week respectively based on sales amassed in less than 24 hours.  With continued coverage of circumstances surrounding his untimely passing taking over television and radio airwaves, nostalgic fans have run to digital and brick and mortar record stores to pay homage to the fallen singer/songwriter.

Some of their purchasing power, as we previously reported, will be reflected in the updated Billboard 200. Get the details below:

Following a 9-week stint at #1 with ‘Work,’ Rihanna finally vacated the top spot of the Hot 100.

Thus far, the release of subsequent efforts have proved relatively futile – a reality many blame on the catabolizing success of the Drake assisted number.

Undeterred, RiRi has teamed with producer/DJ Calvin Harris for another swing of the bat.

Given the send off a music royal of his stature deserves, Princewho passed away unexpectedly last week (April 21) – has jumped to the top of the Billboard album charts with his ‘greatest hits’ project.

Also occupying the #2 spot with his magnum opus ‘Purple Rain,’ Prince’s reign over the Billboard 200 is all the more impressive considering the lack of streaming availability afforded his projects.  In other words, if it was as widely available as its nearest competitors, the damage he would’ve done to charts this week would almost be unfathomable.

Alas, with a whopping 179,000 and 69,000 equivalent albums moved respectively (all on the last day of tallying last week), the sets hop over the week’s previously projected competitors for #1 & #2Rihanna‘s ‘Anti’ and Sturgill Simpson‘s ‘Sailor’s Guide To Earth’ – for the wins.

Leave it to Prince to go out on top.  Tuck in below to check out this week’s full chart check:

With the world still vibrating after the debut of Beyonce‘s sixth studio album ‘Lemonade,’ attention has turned to who helped the diva create the set.

A perusal of the credits for the LP – which is her sixth – reveals Queen Bey to once again be at the forefront – having a heavy hand in the writing and production of all 12 songs. She also serves as executive producer of its accompanying short film.

Interestingly, though calling on familiar faces such as The-Dream and Boots from her previous projects, the 34-year-old enlisted a fresh batch of talent – including the UK’s MNEK and Carla Marie Williams. Critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Wynter Gordon also features heavily.

While music’s supreme diva Aretha Franklin will forever reign as the ‘Queen of Soul,’ her current reign as the queen of the Billboard Hot 100 is finding itself threatened by a school of relative newcomers – Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, and, now, Rihanna.

While Swift and Minaj are quickly on the trail of Franklin’s record for “most entries of any female artist” (Franklin leads with 73 total), the ‘Shake It Off’ country pop singer – by her lonesome – has surpassed Franklin’s historic top 40 record.  With 49 top 40 entries, Taylor is now tied for the “all-time” top spot (among female artists) with Queen of Pop Madonna.

But, before she gets too comfortable on the perch, she is soon to be joined by songbird Rihanna’s surpassing of the legendary ‘Respect’ singer. For, after besting some of the Hot 100 records set by Whitney Houston, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, The Beatles, and Mariah Carey, it appears Riri has Rere in her sights.  Courtesy of her latest hit, ‘Needed Me,’ the Bajan beauty is set to close the gap between herself and Swift.

With new single ‘Kiss It Better’ sinking after hitting an early iceberg, Rihanna is wasting no time rolling out the campaign for its follow-up ‘Needed Me.’

The ‘ANTI’ track has established itself as a firm fan favorite, as evidenced by its rapid ascend on the Billboard Hot 100.

And while sales may not be Ms. Fenty’s forte, digital streaming certainly is. Clearly knowing this, RiRi is releasing the cut’s official video today.

Roc Nation is ruling the charts thanks to the latest efforts of Kanye West and Rihanna.

Rih, as we reported here, nabbed her 8th week at #1 on the Hot 100 this week with her hit ‘Work.’  The feat not only gave her the second longest run atop the chart of her career, but also saw her tie The Beatles for second longest collective weeks on the singles’ chart summit.

But, just as #TheNavy continue to sing her praises for matching rock group’s legendary record, music’s other top story of the week is her Roc Nation brother Kanye who, Billboard reports, similarly challenges the Hot 100 of another music pioneer – Ray Charles
