Your thoughts?

In need of motivation? From The Vault has you covered with a modern R&B classic.

This week’s pick is Kelly Rowland’s scintillating ‘Motivation.’

After releasing a bevy of chart-topping Pop and EDM bops (see: ‘Work’ and ‘When Love Takes Over’), Ms. Kelly re-embraced her first love – R&B music.

Teaming with Rico Love and Jim Josin, together they molded ‘Motivation’ and issued the jam as the launching single of Rowland’s third solo album ‘Here I Am.’  And in a major coup, she snagged the time’s man of the moment Lil’ Wayne to assist her on the sizzling track.

Thankfully for Rowland, despite years away on Euro shores, the US Urban scene was more than ready to welcome her back; the tune peaked at the top spot of the Billboard Hot Hip-Hop/R&B tally where it reigned for 7 consecutive weeks. It was also a Hot 100 Top 20, climaxing at #17.

Sarah Chatfield directed the sensual video for ‘Motivation’ and the legendary Frank Gatson served as its creative director.

Steamy and moody mise-en-scene served as the backdrop for the sensual visual, which saw Kelly command her troop of male dancers through thrust-heavy choreography courtesy of Luam.

And while the video showcased Kelly at her most provocative, it still evoked the same brand of class that she’s been synonymous with since the start of her career.

[Side note: her performance of the song at the 2011 BET Awards remains amazing forever and a day]

*************

Seeing Kelly at rock Coachella with her Destiny’s Child bandmates has us salivating even more at the prospect of things to come.

With the brand of R&B she’s been pushing for the most part of the decade once again being the “in” sound now, the time seems more than apt for her to show up and show out.

Fingers crossed that that the new music she’s been talking about for so long materlizes soon, because we’re ready to see Kelly back to Werk!

Cop a gander of Christina Aguilera!

The Pop chanteuse is strutting on with purpose to the release of her eighth studio album ‘Liberation’ and seems keen to flaunt her new aesthetic.

Xtina recently revealed that the LP represents a stripping back and that the set skews rawer and grittier than anything she’s offered up in recent years.

To push this visually, she’s unveiled a look that sees her do away with the extravagance that has become synonymous with her and instead embrace all things simple, slick, and chic.

Childish Gambino sprung quite the surprise on the masses. Because moments after rocking Saturday Night Live, the eclectic star unleashed the video for ‘This Is America.’

The striking visual sees the rapper glide between the comical and the thought-provoking as he unpacks his take on the State of…the States.

Having wowed with 2016’s award-winning ‘Awaken, My Love!,’ he says his next LP will be the last under the C.D moniker.

Sadly, the time is coming for us to bid adieu to another beloved television series:  Jennifer Lopez‘s suspenseful police drama, ‘Shades of Blue.’

As we reported here last month, after two fairly successful seasons on parent network NBC, the show is set to take its final bow at the conclusion of season 3.  Readied for June 17th kick off at 10p/9p C, season 3’s 10-episode run will pick up exactly where its cliffhanger of a season 2 finale left off.

Welcome to Retro Rewind, the TGJ original feature carved out to celebrate TV and Film’s glorious past.

Today, we revisit Disney’s hit African-American show ‘Smart Guy’ starring Tahj Mowry. As his older sisters Tia and Tamera soared on Nickelodeon with ‘Sister Sister’ Tahj carved out a ratings-pulling lane for himself with the comedy which saw him play the powerful and precocious T.J Henderson.

After ordering a seven-episode run for its first season, Disney upped its order to 22 episodes per season after watching Tahj and his comedic co-stars push viewing figures to astronomical heights!

Ready to take that journey into the past?

‘Tightrope’ performer Janelle Monae has traipsed her way into yet another top 5 hit on the Billboard 200 thanks to her tertiary release, ‘Dirty Computer.’

Her first studio album in nearly five years, the set – kicked off by ‘I Like That,’ ‘Make Me Feel,’ ‘Django Jane,’ ‘Pynk,’ and a short film – has come as a welcomed addition to her critically acclaimed discography as it was greeted fanfare similar to that of its forerunners.  Initially, industry analysts suggested that critical laud wasn’t exactly reflected commercially as the LP was predicted to shift 37,000 units its first week (click here to read more on that).  The numbers, if proven true, would have delivered the singer’s second best first week sales of her career.  Keywords:  “would have.”

For, at the close of ‘Computer’s first full tracking week (May 4), a surge in sales has not only seen her leave that first report’s prediction in the dust, but also gifted her the best first week sales of her career:
