In an age where the casual listener has very little interest in supporting albums, it’s become quite apparent that Rap/Hip Hop is one of the only fields left to impressive first week numbers on the Billboard 200.

For, when Rihanna‘s lackluster 198,000 units for ‘Talk That Talk’ are placed next to Drake‘s 631,000 units moved with 2011’s ‘Take Care‘, there’s no denying that US Rap continues to pull number of stunts and tricks on its Hot 100 heavy Pop counterpart.

Now, by way of his latest album ‘God Forgives, I Don’t‘, Rick Ross is set to join an elite group of Rappers making major waves on the Billboard 200.

Nelly Furtado‘s new album title couldn’t be more apt. For, the one-time Pop force must indeed have ‘The Spirit Indestructible’ given that she’s pressing on with a project that’s birthed no hits.

It’s a stance we wholly support, though; as Nelly’s talent is undeniable. Case, point, her freshly released stint on AOL Sessions.

Perhaps in response to the industry’s increasingly disposable nature, the question of talent remains ever present fueled by the head scratching ascent of many a contemporary act.

Unashamedly lacking any discernible gift or skill worthy of their notoriety, gone are the days where an artist did one or the other and if ‘the fan’ was lucky – both.

Instead, barring the likes of Alexandra Burke, Beyonce, Lady GaGa, Jessie J and Adele, it’s safe to say the actual ‘talent’ of most entertainers finds itself in disrepute, backed not by their skills but chart feats and in some cases…Twitter followers.

So now we ask:

Are vocalists – gifted singers – on the decline? Or are they just a little harder to find in the blur that is the Hot 100?

A Platinum coin in a box filled with oversexed R&B silvers, the ‘Take Care‘ maestra -by way of his unashamedly ‘brohemian’ brand- has risen to become one of the US’ highest selling acts.

An act, whose sophomore album ‘Take Care‘ bested Lady GaGa‘s first week full priced sales for 2011’s ‘Born This Way‘, selling more copies in three weeks than Rihanna‘s ‘Talk That Talk’ has sold in 9 months.

Now, in what marks yet another commercial feat scored by the star, his latest tour has pulled in impressive numbers on Pollstar‘s Mid-Year Top 100 Worldwide Tours tally.
