After producing a string of hit biopics on popular female singers (see:  Aaliyah, Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, etc.), many forecasted Lifetime’s latest effort – a film about the life and times of current pop superstar Britney Spears – would be a homerun.  Well, that was the case until they saw the almost parodic casting and shambolic trailer.

In addition, the pop princess the unauthorized bio was designed to depict gave the movie’s production a royal thumbs down.  The aforementioned (and the unforgiving Twitter slamming it suffered) all added to ‘Britney Ever After’ [which aired February 18th] being a ratings miss for the women’s network.

In addition to earning its highest ratings in years, the 2017 Grammys also helped spur some impressive sales and streaming boosts for its performers – most notably Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, Katy Perry, and Bruno Mars.

While Sheeran, who was last week’s Hot 100 leader, maintains his hold on the top spot, he’s challenged by Perry whose latest number – ‘Chained to the Rhythm’ – made an impressive #4 debut to the tune of 108,000 downloads and handsome streaming figures.

As far as Mars and Weeknd are concerned, Billboard reports:

Following his Grammys performance of “That’s What I Like,” along with his Prince tribute, Mars blasts 37-7 on the Hot 100, earning his 14th top 10.

Fellow Grammys performer The Weeknd vaults 16-9 on the Hot 100 with “I Feel It Coming,” featuring Daft Punk, after the acts performed the song, as well as prior single “Starboy,” at music’s biggest night. The song is The Weeknd’s sixth Hot 100 top 10 and Daft Punk’s third (and second as featured on a hit by The Weeknd, following the No. 1 “Starboy”).
