“Dynamite” is what many have deemed newcomer MAAD. Could she be next to blow?

We, here at That Grape Juice, wholly feel so.

In a sea of sameness, the New York bred beauty stands out from the pack. Powerfully.

It’s not just her statuesque aesthetic, but her narrative too.

Her ascend began in the world of modelling and to-date she has featured in publications such as ELLE and NYLON, while also fronting campaigns for the likes of Seventeen and Anastasia Beverly Hills.

Music, however, has always been the budding diva’s divine calling.

Indeed, when not spinning hits as one of NYC’s most sought-after DJ’s, the rising star logs in studio time with the likes of Claude Kelly, Jonas Jeberg, and The Vamp – the latter of who produced her infectious new single ‘Black Ice.’

The deliciously seductive cut has been garnering plenty of play around TGJ HQ over the last few weeks, but it’s its video that has our jaws ajar.

Directed by Creative Destruction, the visual sees MAAD sassily state her claim for superstardom…with an exclamation mark.

She slips, slides, and grinds with seasoned precision and pulls from her modelling skill set to ensure almost every frame is an editorial in itself.

With too many artists chasing the minimalist trend, this young lady re-affirms the importance of performance art. And we’re oh so sold on what she’s selling – as there’s not enough of it permeating the music landscape.

Both retro and refreshing.

MAAD’s EP ‘‘Lé Funk’ lands in September.

Until then, hit PLAY on ‘Black Ice’ above…

Tinashe taps the production power of hitmaking duo The Dream and Tricky Stewart for her latest jam, ‘Superlove.’

Teased earlier this week on social media, the tune was unveiled in full moments ago with a press release that saw T praise the song for its ‘infectiousness’:

“I have felt a strong urge recently to release a song that promotes positivity, love, and light,” she said in a press release. “Superlove” is a celebration of happiness. More specifically, it celebrates the kind of happiness that is so immense and infectious, that you can’t help but to rejoice in it.”

If you thought Katy’s catalog was filled with enough inspirational anthems (see: ‘Fireworks’ to ‘Roar’), now the pop diva is adding another to her lengthy list:  ‘Rise.’

Unleashed tonight to the pleasure of her devoted #Katycats, the tune was lifted in support for the upcoming Summer Olympics.  Via its accompanying press release, the ballad will be played throughout NBC’ss coverage of the Rio games – which will see its opening ceremony kick off on August 5th.

It’s Britney b*tch!

After a year of false starts and false hopes (see:  ‘Pretty Girls’ ft. Iggy Azalea, ‘Private Show,’ and more), fans of pop diva Britney Spears finally found the lid lifted off new music from her 9th official LP.

Coming in the form of ‘Make Me,’ featuring G-Eazy, the tune is – to our surprise – a synth-heavy ballad. Oozing the sultriness and sex appeal we’ve become accustomed to from the pop princess, the curve-ball of a tune lands in our lap as quite the departure from how Spears usually kicks off her projects (see:  uptempo, party-starters). However, seeing the lackluster response to its predecessor, ‘Britney Jean,’ we can’t blame the girl for at least trying to do something different.

Did she knock it out of the park?  Tell us below:

drake-2016-views-763x717

The Billboard 200 reign of Drake‘s fourth studio album, ‘Views,’ has been nothing short of historic.

Topping the tally for a whopping 9 consecutive weeks, the project has undoubtedly set the streaming bar extremely high for any act to follow.  With over 1 billion collective streams of its content, as of time reporting ‘Views’ has “sold” a cool 2.5 million units (with only half of that figure coming from traditional sales).

However, as the age old adage goes, all good things must come to an end.  For, as previously reported, rock group Blink 182 rocked the rapper’s tenure at the top this week with their latest project.  But, fans of Drizzy needn’t worry.  Reports are already indicating he will most likely be #1 again next week.

Until then, see this week’s updated chart below:

Foxy-Brown-Peter-Kramer-angie stone-thatgrapejuice vh1 honors

VH1’s ‘Hip Hop Honors’ definitely missed the spot for fans of ‘Hot Spot’ hitmaker Foxy Brown.

The annual tribute ceremony may have served up epic performances in homage to female rap pioneers Salt-N-Pepa, Queen Latifah, Lil’ Kim, Missy Elliott and more, but some fans complained the edition had some noticeable exclusions from its list of honorees – namely Brown and Lauryn Hill.

While Hill has opted to remain mum on the snub, Brown has joined her fans in ‘checking’ the music network for not doing their homework.

You're Still The One - Shania Twain1-thatgrapejuice

Readers of That Grape Juice know what avid music lovers we are – especially of hits past.

So, as our retrospective features ‘From the Vault’ and ‘TGJ Replay’  allow us the chance to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday of one artist, our newest feature Chart Rewind – a variation of our current Retro Rewind assay – accedes salutes to an entire era of music history.

This week we’re still jamming to ‘You’re Still the One’ – the most successful crossover single of country Queen Shania Twain.  Lifted from Twain’s tertiary release, ‘Come On Over,’ ‘One’ is not only widely recognized as the song that launched the songstress to pop radio and audiences, but also helped propel its parent album to heights of 40 million+ sold (making it the best-selling album by a female ever).

While ‘One’ never actually reached #1 on the Hot 100 due to being held at bay by Brandy & Monica‘s massive hit ‘The Boy is Mine’, it still etched its way into history books and hearts – ours included.  Tuck in below to see who joined B-Rocka, Mo, and Shania this week in 1998 in the upper rankings of the Hot 100:
