Despite being nowhere near the Dolby Theater at the time Will Smith made headlines for slapping Chris Rock for making a joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith‘s hair at the Academy Awards Sunday night (March 27), August Alsina has seen his name mentioned by many as part of the ongoing discussion about the shocking incident.

Less than five months after sending his fans into a frenzy at reports he was set to retire, August Alsina surprises with news that he’s not hanging up his mic just yet.

Teaming with lauded singer-songwriter Priscilla Renea (known pseudonymously as Muni Long), Alsina adds a steamy verse to the remix of the songstress’ critically acclaimed cut, ‘Hrs & Hrs.’

“I wish the day was more than 24 hours / With every extra minute / Girl, I would be lost in it / Kissin’ you all over every inch / I won’t stop until you’re moanin’ / More, more, more, more, more hours,” he croons on the Ralph Tiller-produced track.

Earlier this month, August Alsina saw his debut album, 2014’s ‘Testimony,’ become his first album to reach Platinum status in the United States – a triumph that came just months after the album’s tracks, ‘No Love’ and ‘I Luv This Sh*t,’ became his first two singles to reach double Platinum status.

Despite those wins, which have been coupled with calls for new music from his diehard fans, the 29-year-old has indicated he’s not inspired to press forward with his music career.

Barely a year after his ill-fated third studio album, ‘State of Emergency,’ slipped out of the Billboard 200 after a 3-week tenancy (as we reported here), Alsina’s announced he’s set to vacate the music scene all together.

And it’s bringing the heat with a number of notable names including Tamar Braxton, August Alsina, and NBA legend Dennis Rodman.

As evidenced by its short stay on the Billboard 200, August Alsina fans weren’t all that crazy about his long-awaited third studio album, ‘State of Emergency’ (2020), or the Jada Pinkett-Smith “entanglement” drama that preceded its release.

Yet, a recent announcement from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) suggests they are still in love with offerings from his debut studio effort (2014’s ‘Testimony’) – namely the hits ‘I Luv This Sh*t’ and ‘No Love.’

The week August Alsina released his third studio album, ‘The Product III: stateofEMERGEncy,’ the R&B heartthrob revealed he’d had a romantic affair with Jada Pinkett-Smith (with the blessing of her Academy Award-nominated husband Will Smith).

Once the power couple took to Jada’s Facebook Watch platform, ‘Red Table Talk,‘ to address and confirm the rumor head-on, she popularized the term ‘entanglement’ as her description of the extent of the relationship with the singer-songwriter.

While the momentum around the controversy did little to commercially support his ill-fated LP (as we reported here), he was able to capitalize off the hoopla by releasing the Rick Ross-assisted song, ‘Entanglements’ in July.

And, though the song may not feature on ‘The Product,’ Alsina’s still pushing forward in its promotion by unveiling its official music video.

It’s been over a month since August Alsina rocked headlines with accusations he and Jada Pinkett-Smith were engaged in an extramarital affair that was “blessed” by the actress’ husband, Will Smith (as we reported here).

In the time since, Jada and Will tackled the topic head-on – describing it as less of a romantic liaison and more of an ‘entanglement’ (popularizing the word as a result).

Though Alsina attempted to redirect the heightened attention away from the incident to his ill-fated third studio album, ‘The Product iII: StateofEMERGENCY,’ the endeavor hasn’t been the most fruitful as the set remains his lowest-selling LP to date (as we reported here).

To change the tide, the ‘Rounds’ singer continues to make his promo rounds in the project’s support.  Most recently stopping by our friends at ‘People’ magazine, he dished on the 27-song opus, the media response to his allegations against the Smiths, and so much more.

August Alsina blindsided fans with the announcement his long-awaited third album, ‘The Product III: StateofEmergency,’ would arrive on digital shelves June 26.

Packed with a whopping 27 tracks, awareness raised for the effort (which included 5 of its tracks released in the week preceding its release) was overshadowed by reports of his one-time affair with Jada Pinkett-Smith.  As such, the minimally-promoted project peaked at #48 on the Billboard 200 with his lowest first-week sales to date.

A state of emergency indeed, peruse of the updated edition of the chart sees the LP nowhere in sight.

Social media is weighing in August Alsina‘s ‘Entanglement’….the song in which he details his romantic relationship with Will Smith‘s wife Jada Pinkett-Smith.

Media spectators fear the relationship, and the details surrounding it, may sully Will Smith‘s public image as a virile All-American alpha male after Alsina claimed that the actor (who is almost twice his age) gave him permission to bed his wife.

Will denies the claim…but that’s done little to stop talk that the scandal is humiliating.
