Rihanna‘s rejection of Sia‘s ‘Cheap Thrills’ has proven itself a serious misstep on the Bajan beauty’s part.

For, after penning her fair share of hits for other artists and wielding a series of her own hits courtesy of soaring tunes ‘Chandelier,’ ‘Big Girls Cry,’ and ‘Elastic Heart,’ the singer/songwriter has taken the Sean Paul-assisted tune to #1 on the Hot 100.  Ending the 10 week reign of Drake‘s ‘One Dance’ (featuring Wizkid & Kyla), ‘Thrills’ – thanks to a timely $.69 iTunes sale – comes as the first chart-topper of Sia’s nearly 20 year career.

Much like her soaring pop tune ‘Roar’ scared off the competition upon its debut (namely Lady Gaga‘s ‘Applause’), Katy Perry’s Hot 100 dominance shows no signs of cooling if the sales performance of ‘Rise’ – her latest single – is any indication.

Released the same day as Britney Spears‘ highly anticipated new single, ‘Make Me (ft. G-Eazy),’ Perry’s Olympic-inspired tune certainly lived up to its title, not only giving rise to a friendly competition between her fans (#KatyCats) and Spears’ (#BritneyArmy), but also rising to the occasion with strong sales and streaming.

Michael Jordan has a released a statement condemning the treatment of African-American citizens in the United States by the legal system.

Published in response to the murders of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling, the former athlete’s statement came armed with a donation of $2 million made to civil rights organisations.

The problem?

His altruism seems to have been ignited after he learned of plans that were being made to boycott his products.
