thatgrapejuice-destiny fulfilled

Welcome, once again, to TGJ Replay.

Designed much like our ‘Retro Rewind’ and ‘From the Vault’ features, ‘Replay’ is That Grape Juice‘s newest retrospective segment – a written quest, if you will, to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday.

Unlike its ‘Rewind’ and ‘Vault’ predecessors, ‘Replay’ looks to dust off and showcase entire albums (and eras) from a library of pop and Urban pop music hits.  As this week marks the 10th anniversary of the ultimate Destiny’s Child album ‘Destiny Fulfilled,’ we thought it only fitting to cater our latest foray down memory lane to one of the best-selling girl groups in history.

Get reacquainted with their final full length studio album below:

…now I know just where you stand, your performance definitely deserves a hand

Fans of Nickelodeon sitcom Taina will recognise the lyrics above from the number ‘I Thought That Were Friends’, featured in an episode starring a then 22 year old Kelly Rowland.

Twelve years later, the song’s theme of betrayal between friends finds itself confronted by Pop princess Taylor Swift, who has recorded a Katy Perry diss track named ‘Bad Blood.’

This week’s That Grape Juice Cover Star comes from Chanel Nicole – the New York singer/songwriter making a splash on Youtube.  Press ‘PLAY’ below to see Nicole cover Fantasia‘s Kelly Rowland-enlisted hit ‘Without Me’ – the second single from her 4th album ‘Side Effects Of You’ (in stores now).

Start at :45…

Yes, ma’am Miss Nicole.  We can get with this.

Packing a very radio-friendly voice, Chanel conveyed the song’s sass in a way that seemed authentic and devoid of caricature.  While a few noticeable misfired runs and notes, overall the presentation was pleasant and provided indication that with fine tuning Chanel could shine with the new school of R&B chanteuses.

In celebrating its 55th anniversary this month (August 4th) Bill Werde‘s ‘Billboard Hot 100‘ have released a tally naming their ‘Biggest Hits of All Time‘, ranking each and every cut released between 1958 and now using its performance on competitive chart.

Counting down from #100, the list you’ll see below takes several chart rules changes into account, and sees each song earn its place with the context surrounding it in place…ie, streaming data counting towards week by week sales on the chart.

In adding to this, songs that spent the most weeks at #1 on the list and afforded the greatest value, which – in some cases- may see their rankings surprise you.
