Balfour To Remain Behind BarsThe prime suspect in the murders of Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew, William Balfour, was denied release from prison today by the Chicago authorities:

The man police have called a suspect in the murder of actress Jennifer Hudson’s family will remain in prison while investigators continue to investigate the triple slaying.

The Illinois Prisoner Review Board ruled this morning that there was reason to believe that William Balfour, 27, had violated his parole. The major reason was that his girlfriend had said that she had seen him with a gun that matched the murder weapon, according to Jorge Montes, chairman of the review board.

In addition, the board said he had violated parole by being in places where drugs were sold. That stems from a June 19 drug arrest, but Balfour’s parole was not revoked at that time.

During the hearing, Balfour protested the use of the evidence that authorities presented to hold him, Montes said. Balfour was not represented by a lawyer. {Source}

The whole situation is still beyond sad. I hope this guy gets locked for life.

T.I. Makes Chart History Rapper T.I. dominates the charts this week on multiple fronts. The Atlanta native’s latest Long Play effort ‘Paper Trail’ stormed to the top the Billboard 200 chart with a whopping 568,000 copies sold in its first week – the highest selling debut of his career.
Elsewhere, his collaboration with Rihanna ‘Live Your Life’ breaks the record for the biggest chart jump on the Billboard Hot 100 – soaring #80-#1 – due to a surge in digital sales. Interestingly, the song unseats his ‘Whatever You Like’ from the top spot – itself breaking records 6 weeks ago after leaping #71-#1. The last artist to achieve such a feat was Usher in 2004 – with ‘Burn’ topping ‘Yeah’ on the same chart.
The week’s 2nd highest debut came from American Idol Alumni Jennifer Hudson, whose self titled debut landed at #2 – selling through an impressive 217,000. {Source}
More power to them both.

Stars Come Out For 'Sex & The City' Premiere Stars Come Out For 'Sex & The City' Premiere
The New York premiere for the much anticipated ‘Sex & The City’ movie took place yesterday. A number of high profile celebs made an appearance including Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson – who stars in the movie, Mary J. Blige, Michelle Williams and Lil’ Kim – who also makes a brief cameo in the flick.
I must say, Jennifer Hudson and Michelle Williams looked particularly on-point. Even Kim made a decent showing; the age old adage ‘less is more’ definitely seemed to be one Kim took on board, as, having left the drag queen make-up at home, she looked the best she has done in a long while. Mary on the other hand looks like the gruelling tour schedule has caught up with her; she looked tired.

Fergie - 'Labels Or Love' As earlier reported, Pop star Fergie recorded the opening number to the much-hyped ‘Sex & The City’ movie (in theatres May 27th); the track itself, ‘Labels Or Love’, surfaced today. Sampling the popular show’s theme tune, the song will most appeal to fans of the Fergie/Black Eyed Peas sound. Pretty decent. I must say though, I’m more looking forward to Jennifer Hudson’s confirmed contribution to the soundtrack.

CBS aired the first annual Movies Rock! special yesterday. Taped at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, performers on the night included Beyonce, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige and Chris Brown. Check out the performances below:

Beyonce – Somewhere Over The Rainbow

Jennifer Hudson – Somewhere

Usher – Singing In The Rain

More performances:

Fergie – Live & Let Die

Chris Brown – Jailhouse Rock

Mary J. Blige & John Legend – As Time Goes By

Nicole Scherzinger – Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend

Will.i.am, Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J & Eve – Theme

I really liked the concept of the show and enjoyed most of the performances – most notably Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson. Usher’s rendition of ‘Singing In The Rain’ was pretty good too.

What do you think of the performances?

According to Mariah Daily, Mariah Carey is reportedly being lined up to perform at the 35th Annual American Music Awards. The event, which takes place in Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre on November 18th, will also see performances from Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson, Chris Brown and Rihanna.
Here’s hoping she performs new material, although, in light of the album’s push back to February, that may not be likely.

Any thoughts?
