Nas: 'I Don't Make As Much $ As Kelis Thinks'Nas and Kelis’ divorce seems like it’s getting messier and messier. Such a shame. Check out the latest twist in the saga, which sees Nas submitting that he simply does not make as much as Kelis is making it out he does:

Nas has fired back in his bitter divorce case with Kelis claiming he’s paid her more than she says and he makes less than she thinks.

For starters, Kelis claims Nas raked in $11 million for his album deal. Nas fired back in legal papers, “I did not receive even half that amount”… claiming it’s more like $4 mil. Nas claims his income is declining, and he’s only pulling in $147,165 a month.

As for what he spends … $71,371.96 a month, which includes $10,000 a month in clothing/hair/toiletries/personal effects.

Kelis, who is about to give birth to their child, claims Nas hasn’t paid a penny for child or spousal support since he left her. Nas, who says he wants to be “fully involved” in the parenting of their child, claims he’s agreed to pay $350 for a stroller, $450 for a baby sling and $1,598 for two cribs.

Nas thinks $5,000 a month is reasonable for child support since the kid will just be a newborn. {Source}

Believing Nas and Kelis were gonna be that one couple in the industry that managed to keep it together, I find it real unfortunate that they’ve parted and it’s all being played out so publicly.

Kelis: 'Nas Left Me High & Dry'

If you thought the Nas and Kelis divorce was going to be a mess-free affair, think again! According to TMZ, Kelis has lifted the lid on the nitty gritty of the couple’s separation…and it’s not a good look for Nas:

Kelis claims estranged hubby Nas has left her high and dry … not offering her a penny in the wake of her impending birth … and she says she’s broke — “I have run out of money.”

Kelis filed legal papers claiming Nas isn’t paying her support, pre-natal expenses — nothing, even though she claims he is filthy rich.

Kelis is asking the judge to order Nas to pay for spousal support, child support, all pregnancy-related expenses, and one-half of all medical expenses after the child is born. She also wants $3,500 for the baby nurse after the child’s birth, and $20,000 for strollers, cribs and other baby supplies.

Kelis says, “My survival is based on [Nas’] will at this time. If he does not want to pay for an expense, it does not get paid.” The couple was married in 2003. The baby is due this month.

Kelis says she’s entitled to maintain the lifestyle to which she became accustomed during their marriage — they have 5 homes, fly first class, go to fancy restaurants, and on and on. Most interesting — “There were many expensive pieces [of jewelry] such as a princess-cut diamond tennis bracelet that was recently appraised for $190,000. My engagement ring is an approximately nine-carat cushion-cut diamond solitaire. I have numerous watches…such as Cartier, Rolex, Frank Muller and Chopard.”

Her lawyer, disso-queen Laura Wasser, says in a separate declaration she’s asked Nas to ante up some $$$ for Kelis and the unborn baby but he hasn’t responded.

Wow. Can you say ‘drama’ or what! While there are three sides to every story (hers, his, and the truth), this really doesn’t bode well for Nas in the court of public opinion. Nonetheless, the whole situation is real, real unfortunate.

“I can confirm that she has filed for divorce,” said a rep for Kelis, whose full name is Kelis Rogers-Jones. “We request the media to respect her privacy during this very difficult time.”
She and Nas (full name Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones) tied the knot Jan. 8, 2005, in Atlanta after a two-year engagement. The pair are expecting their first child together—a son—this summer. Nas has a teenage daughter from a previous relationship. {Source}
WOW! I can’t say I saw this one coming. After being together for so long (in Hollywood years, of course), I really saw these two as the standard-bearers of how industry relationships can stand the test of time. I’m definitely anticipating the reasons for the divorce; I can only imagine it’ll be some drama…

If true, much congratulations to Nas and Kelis.

Randomness: I’ve been itching for another Kelis album. ‘Kelis Was Here’ was top notch.

With a flopping album to promote, Soulja Boy has taken a leaf out of 50 Cent’s book and making controversial comments about other artists. Peep what the teen ‘star’ had to say about Nas above. SMH…

50 Cent: 'Nas Is Finished' Seemingly ignoring the fact that his own career is at a low, 50 Cent takes aim at Nas in the latest issue of XXL magazine. Here’s what the G-Unit general had to say:

“Man, Nas is cold as ice. Nas is the block of ice that sunk the Titanic… I think he’s at one of those points to where his career’s finished, to be honest. He’s had some great moments and made good music in the past, but he no longer has the interest of the general public or myself.” {Source}

Ol’ Curtis just doesn’t know when not to speak. With G-Unit’s last album ‘TOS: Terminate On Site’ belly flopping down the charts and 50’s own new album being pushed back due to low interest, he’s hardly one to talk about anyone else. Most especially a man (Nas), who irrespective of sales, continues to achieve critical acclaim and is still held in high regard within the Hip-Hop community. If there were a ever a time 50 needed to fall back, this is it. SMH.

Nas - 'Untitled': Will You Be Buying?Nas’ controversially ‘untitled’ new album finally hit stores today. That Grape Juice wants to know…
Will you be buying Nas’ new LP?

The video for the first single to be lifted from Nas’ forthcoming album (untitled) ‘Hero’ premiered just a few moments ago. Thought the Taj directed clip is pretty much standard-fare, the song, which I’ve had on constant rotation as of late, is the business. It definitely carries the otherwise passable vid.

In a pretty odd happening, Danity Kane performed on Country music’s version of American Idol, Nashville Star last night. Yes, I have no idea why they were booked to perform there either. Anyway, about the performance, it was pretty good. The ladies have definitely had better live vocal showings, however their stage presence compensated for that 100%, they really worked the stage like the seasoned performers they’ve become.
