The video to accompany the controversial cut ‘Be A N*gger Too’ from Nas’ forthcoming untitled LP (due July 15th) premiered today. Directed by Rik Cordero, the vid most certainly gets you thinking. Whether one agrees or not with Nas’ stance, there’s no denying he’s not holding back with this project at all.

What do you think of the vid?

Nas - 'Hero (ft. Keri Hilson)' With all the controversy surrounding the title of Nas’ forthcoming album (which is still untitled – due July 15th), one could easily be forgiven for forgetting about the actual music. The set’s first official single ‘Hero’ surfaced recently and it’s banger! Produced by Polow Da Don and featuring Keri Hilson, the cut manages to not stray from Nas’ stance in rap, whilst also being commercial enough to service to the masses. I’m really feeling this one. Random tidbit: Keri is everywhere these days. More power to her. {Many thanks to The Best of Both Offices}

New Nas Album Cover As reported early last week, rapper Nas succumbed to mounting pressure from the media and critics alike to change the name of his forthcoming LP – which was controversially titled ‘N*gger’.
Word has it, Nas has insisted the album now be title-less so as to not fully comply with his critics. Anyway, set for a July 3rd release, the cover art for the album surfaced today. It’s evident he’s not shying away from the original album title’s message. I’m still kinda on the fence about this whole project. I guess time will tell if it works in his favour.

What do you think of the cover?
Nas Changes Album Title; Relase Date ConfirmedAccording to Billboard, the title of Nas’s controversial ‘N*gger’ LP has been scrapped in favour of an unconfirmed name. Now slated to drop on July 1st, the rapper confirmed that he was pressurised into changing the album’s title in view of the media hysteria:

“It’s important to me that this album gets to the fans,” the rapper says. “It’s been a long time coming. I want my fans to know that creatively and lyrically, they can expect the same content and the same messages. It’s that important. The streets have been waiting for this for a long time. The people will always know what the real title of this album is and what to call it.”

I was always kinda on the fence about the album’s title; no doubt, the record, irrespective of it’s new title, will have garnered much attention already.

Nas - 'Be A N*gger Too'While rapper Nas continues to prep his controversial LP ‘N*gger’ for release on July 1st, a cut from the much-anticipated set has surfaced. ‘Be A N*gger Too’ serves as the first indicator as to what to expect from the album. I know what I’m thinking about this all, but I’m real interested in hearing your take on the song/album’s concept etc.

According to the NY Daily News, rappers Jay-Z and Nas may be dropping a collaborative LP in the near future:

Rumors continue to swirl about Jay-Z’s still-unconfirmed new record label, Carter Music Group. We hear that Jay is partnering with rapper Nas on an album of duets, “The Kings of Hip Hop,” to be released on the label early next year. Jay’s rep is keeping tight-lipped.

As appealing as the concept sounds, it’s probably best left on paper. Jay, of all people, should know that collabo albums tend to have more riding against them than for them (see: ‘Best of Both Worlds’). Random tidbit: What happened to Bow Wow & Omarion’s ‘Face Off? LMAO.

Nas - XXL Magazine

Rapper Nas features on the cover of the March issue of XXL magazine. Nas, real name Nasir Jones, is currently prepping the release of his already-controversial album ‘N*gger’ (due later this year).

What do you think of the over?

Since announcing the ‘N*gga’ as the title of his forthcoming album, rapper Nas has been facing mounting criticism from leaders in the black community including as Rev. Jesse Jackson. In light of the controversy, the ‘Hip Hop Is Dead’ rapper has modified the album’s title to ‘N*gger’ (from ‘N*gga’). Still, Nas – real name Nasir Jones – had choice words for his critics:

“I’m a street disciple,” Nas told MTV News. “I’m talking to the streets. Stay out of our business. You ain’t got no business worrying about what the word ‘nigger’ is or acting like you know what my album is about without talking to me. Whether you in the NAACP or you Jesse Jackson. I respect all of them … I just want them to know: Never fall victim to Fox [News] . Never fall victim to the sh*t they do. What they do is try to hurry up and get you on the phone and try to get you to talk about something you might not know about yet.

“If Cornell West was making an album called Nigger, they would know he’s got something intellectual to say,” Nas continued. “To think I’m gonna say something that’s not intellectual is calling me a nigger, and to be called a nigger by Jesse Jackson and the NAACP is counterproductive, counter-revolutionary.”

Though I can see more of where he’s coming from with his reason for naming the album as such, I still think it’s controversy not worth generating.

What’s your take on the CD’s title?
It seems Nas is going for ‘controversial’ on his forthcoming album. Check out the report via MTV:

On Friday night at New York’s Roseland Ballroom, Nas announced the title of his next album: He said it will be called Nigga and released in December. A source close to the project confirmed the name on Saturday.

Though he’s undeniably one of Hip Hop’s most talented MC’s, this all seems a little desperate on Nas’ part. It’s no secret that his sales have been drying up with each album, so i guess, when all else fails, resorting to shock value is the answer.

Nas and Kelis are featured in the latest issue of Fashion Rocks magazine. The couple – who tied the knot in 2005 – speak on a number of things including their married life, how they met and their upcoming MTV reality show. Check out extracts from the interview below:

ON BEING FOLLOWED BY CAMERAS
Sometimes I feel like ‘This is cool, man; I have TV cameras following me everywhere I go,’ he says sipping a margarita from a plastic cup. “Other times I want to crawl under a rock.” His mouth turns down stubbornly. “I feel like an idiot – ‘Did I really agree to this?’ It feels self-absorbed and self-indulgent.”

“It’s going to be great, baby,” says Kelis in the calming tones of someone used to this conversation. “It has to be great, because if it’s not great we won’t let them put it on TV.”

NAS ON HOW KELIS STEPPED HIS FASHION GAME UP
“Before I met Kelis, I wore Gucci or whatever was hot,” says Nas, with admiration in his eyes. “I didn’t dress badly, because there’s no excuse to disrespect the gods of the stage with some bummy shit: I always say you better rob, cheat, or steal threads to look good up there because hip-hop is about being fresh from your head to toes. But this is a whole different level. Kelis has really made me get my spirit up and step up my clothes game.”

I’ll be sure to check out their show whenever it airs – I’m sure these two will make great viewing.

50 Cent is running his mouth again, this time about fellow rapper Nas. Speaking to XXL magazine, 50 had the following to say about the ‘Hip Hop Is Dead’ rapper:

You have different kinds of people. You have people that are extremely book smart that lack common sense so they don’t know what’s going to affect their audience. They have more information than me based on reading. For instance, Nas is a really smart guy. He reads books constantly. We were around him on the Nastradamus tour. He was almost weirder than me ’cause we would go to breakfast and he’d be there reading a book. Conceptually, I think that’s what made him drift away from what his initial audience enjoys from him and why he’s not hot right now.

Aside from the fact that Nas tops 50 in just about every way, shouldn’t the G-Unit leader be worrying about his own career? With the released material from 50’s upcoming ‘Curtis’ CD flopping all over the place, you’d think he’d look at himself first. I guess he thinks his tired routine of calling out other rappers to generate buzz will work this time. He doesn’t seem to get it – no one cares for his music anymore.

What do you think of 50’s comments?
