While embattled R&B star R. Kelly has been bombarded with negative press in the days leading up to, during, and following the airing of the explosive Lifetime documentary, ‘Surviving R. Kelly,’ his dedicated fans have not only opened their mouths to voice their ongoing support but their wallets as well.

As we reported here, the 52-year-old celebrated a sales and streaming spike just one day after the show’s first two-part episode premiered.  By the time the docuseries aired its finale, Kellz enjoyed an even more impressive boost.

Report:

On Jan. 5, the third and final day of the airing of Surviving R. Kelly, on-demand streams of Kelly’s music rose by 116 percent in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music, as compared to his streams on Jan. 2, the day before the series began.

Kelly’s catalog of songs collected 4.3 million streams (audio and video combined) on Jan. 5, up from 1.9 million on Jan. 2.

Now, just hours after Lady Gaga went on record to announce her intent to remove her R.Kelly-featured hit, ‘Do What U Want,’ from digital services, fans have zoomed to iTunes in droves to purchase it.  Details inside:

Despite his absence from Billboard charts and general conversations about current Pop culture, rapper/entrepreneur Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em is here to tell detractors that he shouldn’t be counted out.

The 2010s may have seen his name aligned with headlines that told of legal woes, rap foes, and trouble with hoes, but the 28-year-old has bounced back majorly, as he recently revealed on Twitter.

And, while the announcement of his comeback may have been greeted ridicule by some, fact checks see his claims of accomplishment check out.  This leads us to ask: did Soulja Boy really have the best comeback of 2018?

It looks like the Billboard Hot 100 told Ariana Grande, “thank you, next,” as refreshed reports shows Travis Scott‘s ‘Sicko Mode’ (featuring Drake) replacing the songstress atop the chart.

After leading the tally for three weeks, Grande’s ode to her exes – though by slim margin  – lost grip of the #1 spot on this week’s singles chart. Billboard reports:

“Sicko” narrowly defeats Grande’s “Thank U, Next” atop the hot 100, as the former gains by 5 percent in overall activity and the latter descends by 5 percent. Still, “Next” tops Streaming Songs for a fourth week (42.5 million, down 3 percent). It falls 4-5 on Digital Song Sales (18,000, down 23 percent) and zooms 36-23 on Radio Songs (39.5 million, up 25 percent), claiming the Hot 100’s top Airplay Gainer title.

Like Grande’s ‘Next,’ ‘Sicko Mode’ comes as Scott’s first chart-topper.  Yet, industry analysts have already forecasted he shouldn’t get too comfortable as – thanks to the song’s well-received music video (as seen here) – ‘Next’ is set to be #1 again next week.

Until we know for sure, look to see who join the two in the top 25 on this week’s TGJ Chart Check:
