After nearly five decades in the spotlight, Janet Jackson is telling her story on her terms.

The ‘Control’ singer is once again taking ownership – and this time it’s of her narrative.

Raw and unvarnished, the singer’s self-titled documentary sees the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer lift the lid on all corners of her life – personal and professional.

Promised and delivered is a front-row seat to the peaks and troughs that have defined a story like no other.

Janet and a star-studded list of guests dive into her non-linear rise to mega-stardom, romantic relationships, and the devastating blows that she’s had to overcome.

That Grape Juice was privy to an advanced look at the first three hours of the eagerly awaited four-hour special – which the superstar executive produced herself.

Readers of That Grape Juice know how passionate we are about music – whether that be past or present.

However, unlike our other segments – Retro Rewind, TGJ Replay, and From The Vault – The Pop Stop is the most in-depth look at Pop songs that may have flown under the radar over the last week that you should know, rather they be from music’s biggest stars or those on the rise.

This week, we want to highlight cuts from Charli XCX & Rina Sawayama, Anitta, Tove Lo, and Royal & The Serpent.

After a firestorm of headlines, Jamie Lynn Spears has seen her memoir ‘Things I Should Have Said’ become a bestseller nationally.

And while that may bring her joy, big sister Britney Spears is none too impressed.

As reported, the ‘Slave 4 U’ performer took umbrage with her sibling for various remarks made about her in the book – as well as releasing the book in the first place.

Indeed, the singer has made no secret of her sentiment that the project is, from her perspective, an exploitative move following the termination of the conservatorship that controlled her personal and professional life for 13 years. A conservatorship Britney insists her family benefitted from.

Now, in a fresh post on the matter, it’s clear the superstar is doubling down on her stance.

Doja Cat may already be clawing toward the release of the music video for her next ‘Planet Her’ single ‘Get Into It (Yuh),’  but her faithful fans (affectionately called #Kittens) shouldn’t think that means she’s abandoned promo for its predecessor, ‘Woman.’

Released just last month, the Child-directed clip – which stars Teyana Taylor and is inspired by Michael Jackson‘s classic ‘Remember the Time’ visual – may have come as the fourth cut to get the video treatment from ‘Planet’ but it landed as one of Doja’s most critically acclaimed ever.

In a bid to get that critical acclaim to be reflected commercially as ‘Woman’ boasts the lowest peak among all the set’s singles to date (#52 on the Hot 100), Cat and team are unveiling a peek at the behind the scenes action of the clip’s creation.

Ella Mai is back!

The GRAMMY-winning songbird, who hasn’t released new music since dropping the standalone single ‘Not Another Love Song’ in late 2020, unexpectedly served notice earlier this week that her second era had officially arrived.

Her sophomore album’s kickoff single comes in the form of ‘DFMU’ (an acronym for don’t f*ck me up), which premiered Friday (January 28).

Not long after its arrival to digital outlets, Mai followed with the release of its accompanying music video – an artsy clip (directed by Loris Russier) that sees its star lamenting the potential a love could go wrong so she gives her lover a stern, but necessary warning.

By comparison, Rap is easily music’s most collaborative genre.

In fact, some of Hip Hop history’s biggest hits have come as the result of some heavyweight tag teams on a track – a nod to the age old adage of ‘strength in numbers.’ Yet, while there is a noteworthy class of emcees who have made indelible marks on the charts by their lonesome, the ladies of the male-dominated genre can’t exactly boast that frequency.

Making the achievement all the more toast-worthy when it does occur, this week saw rising rapstress Latto join an exclusive list of female Hip Hop hitmakers when her latest single, ‘Big Energy, made big moves into the Hot 100’s top 40.

To celebrate, we’re raising a glass to the entire club of femcees who have brought the same energy – for and by themselves.
