In a recent interview with Rap-Up.com, Kelis spoke candidly about the comparisons that fans have been making between her, Lady GaGa and Rihanna. The ‘Acapella’ singer noted that she sees “noticeable” elements of her style in both their music and their fashion sense but she does not have any animosity toward the two. 40 year old diva Mariah Carey appears unwilling to let go of her youth, revealing the name of her latest fragrance to be titled ‘Lollipop Bling’. Set for release via collaborator Elizabeth Arden later this year, the fragrance  joins Carey’s existing fragrances ‘M By Mariah Carey’, ‘Forever Mariah Carey’, and ‘Mariah Carey’s Luscious Pink’.

Sigh. While Mimi has expressed that she feels ‘eternally 12’, the point-blank reality is that she isn’t. Though just a fragrance name, it kinda embodies everything that is wrong with Ms. Carey-Cannon’s image these days. With ol Mimi now being 40, many of her fans are itching for a more elegant and ultimately more refined image from her. Yet, instead we’re subject to more childish, clichéd nonsense (Lollipop Bling? I mean come on now!)

The sad part about the whole shabang is that she’s only making it harder for herself in terms of this new album that our resident lamb (*cough*Trent*cough*) and her fans seem to be so excited about. The record buying public have spoken in unison about their thoughts on her image etc (see: her declining record sales); hence can you really see them lapping up her ‘I’m 40-but act 20-but am really 40’ steez? I don’t.

If her contemporaries, such as Janet Jackson and Madonna, have managed to age gracefully (with their sex and youth appeal doing so also), why can’t Mariah?

That Grape Juice was in the house last night at Fantasia‘s electrifying London debut at the indigO2. Following the show, which was hosted by Starmix, we took to the backstage area to catch up with the American Idol alum – who was very pleased to see us.

As the VH1 cameras rolled (for season two of ‘Fantasia For Real’), the singer became emotional, as she recounted telling That Grape Juice earlier this year that it was her dream to perform in London; a dream which has now come to fruition.

Off the record, this was hands down one of the best shows I have ever had the privilege of attending (and I have been to many)! From the moment she hit the stage and kicked off her heels, Ms. Barrino had the audience in the palm of her hand. The audience were willingly taken to church, to the rave, and anywhere else the dynamic performer chose.

Rounding off her set, Tasia sang “oh how great it is to be London”, indeed we were glad to have and host her. Here’s hoping she comes back soon!

With R&B star Brandy currently enjoying renewed popularity via her hit VH1 show ‘A Family Business’, the singer will no doubt be looking to capitalise on it with the impending release of her new album. Indeed, it appears the mother of one is pulling all the stops with the as-yet-untitled LP, after confirming that she is currently in the studio working with hitmaker Danja.

Renown for his work with Britney Spears (‘Gimme More’), Mariah Carey (‘Migrate’), and Nelly Furtado (‘Maneater’), Danja joins an already impressive list of producers who have been tapped to work on the project – inclusive being Timbaland.

In being one that feels Brandy’s last 3 efforts were unfairly underrated, I’m certainly rooting for Ms. Norwood this go round. With her show (which will almost certainly be green-lighted for a season 2) giving the album a great lead-in, as well as the involvement of top-notch producers, things really look to be on the up for her.
