Readers of That Grape Juice know how passionate we are about music – whether that be past or present.

However, unlike our other segments – Retro Rewind, TGJ Replay, and From The Vault – The Pop Stop is the most in-depth look at Pop songs that may have flown under the radar over the last week that you should know, rather they be from music’s biggest stars or those on the rise.

This week, we want to highlight cuts from Charlie Puth, Conan Gray, Sigrid, and Years & Years.

For many, Wizkid and Davido represent the creme de la creme of the Afrobeats scene.

However, in many ways, the pair’s paths have been noticeably separate amid rumors of a rift.

And the speculation has only intensified with interesting remarks made in interviews.

Yet, it appears it’s a case of water under the bridge.

Because the stars hugged it out for a lengthy time in a Nigerian nightclub this evening.

With headlining the 2022 Super Bowl halftime show in her near sights (February 13), Mary J. Blige is undoubtedly hoping to score on the charts by preceding the big game with the release of her 15th studio album, ‘Good Morning Gorgeous.’

Before watching ‘Morning’ rise to streaming and digital download platforms the morning of February 11, Blige – who’s already given fans a taste of its content via the singles ‘Rent Money’ (featuring Dave East), ‘Good Morning Gorgeous,’ and ‘Amazing’ (featuring DJ Khaled) – has unlocked the first look at the project’s 13-song tracklist.

In addition to big names like East and Khaled, MJB reunites with her ‘Shake Down’ co-star Usher as well as fellow GRAMMY winner Anderson .Paak, Fivio Foreign, and more aboard the effort, which marks her first LP since 2017’s ‘Strength of a Woman.’

As the 10th anniversary of her untimely death approaches, Whitney Houston is still making headlines for the ongoing celebration of her timeless catalog via digital sales and spins on streaming outlets.

Just last week, the late Pop icon made history when she became the first female act in history to be awarded 4 Diamond plaques from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) – one for a single (‘I Will Always Love You’) and three for albums (‘Whitney Houston,’ ‘The Bodyguard,’ and ‘Whitney’).

Now, the latter’s lead single – 1987’s ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)’ – may be well on its way to joining that exclusive list if its continued sales and streaming performance are to judge by.

The Weeknd‘s ‘Dawn FM’ may have marked his first album in nearly 10 years to miss the Billboard 200’s top spot upon its premiere (as we reported here), but the narrow defeat was still accompanied by a number of notable wins on the Hot 100.

Ahead of the LP’s January 7 release, the singer (born Abel Tesfaye) – with 77 career-wide chart entries to his credit – was already listed in the hit list’s history books among male vocalists with the most cumulative Hot 100 appearances.  With ‘Dawn FM,’ however, he forwarded his ranking on that all-time tally as he placed 14 of the project’s 16 tracks on this week’s singles chart (6 in the top 40 alone).

Chloe Bailey‘s official debut solo single, ‘Have Mercy,’ has her competitors still saying just that over four months after its debut.

Not only a mainstay in the top 10 of R&B charts since its September unveiling, the Murda Beatz-produced bop is also one of the year’s most enduring Urban hits on Pop charts – notching its 18th week of placement on the tally this week.

Its ongoing success got the ultimate toast recently, however, when the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) took to press to announce the tune had become her first solo certified hit.

Living up to its title in more ways than one, the six-song project – released January 21 – comes over 20 years after the singer dropped her first well-received Spanish-language effort, ‘Mi Reflejo.’

As critical acclaim continues to roll in from some of the industry’s top tastemakers, ‘Fuerza’ has forced its way to the top of real-time global sales tallies – besting the sales performance of some of the world’s hottest musical releases.

Over a year after its debut, Jazmine Sullivan‘s comeback EP – ‘Heaux Tales’ – continues to write new chapters in its success narrative.

Her highest-peaking project on the Billboard 200 to date, the enduring wins of ‘Heaux’ can be attributed in no small part to its critically acclaimed single ‘Pick Up Your Feelings’ – which gave the R&B diva her highest-charting hit on the Hot 100 since 2010.

Now, according to news from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), ‘Pick Up’ is picking up even more accolades thanks to ongoing attention from streaming and digital download outlets.
