The slap heard and seen around the world is still ringing in the ears and mouths of shocked onlookers a day later.

Sunday night (March 27), shortly ahead of accepting his first Academy Award ever, legendary actor Will Smith smacked Chris Rock for delivering a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and her battle with alopecia. Though he later apologized for the incident, the damage had been done as social media ignited with debates about the appropriateness of the occurrence given the time and venue.

In the 70-year history of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), only 76 songs have been certified Diamond (meaning they’ve respectively sold 10 million copies in the United States).

Of those megahits, only four boast ownership by Black male singers – a number upped this week thanks to the ongoing success of Khalid‘s debut single, 2016’s ‘Location.’
