R&B icons TLC are marching on with momentum to the release of their final studio album.

The self-titled set arrives June 30th and is preceded by summer-soaked single ‘Way Back.’

In a bid to build buzz, the group’s surviving members T-Boz and Chilli took to the stage on The TODAY Show to perform the track.

True to form, the ladies were joined by a troop of dancers.

For us, it’s about managing expectations. Time waits for no one, as such it’s ill-advised to expect the dynamo showings of yesteryear.

When viewed this way, we definitely can appreciate what the ladies are serving up for their final hurrah.

Decent performance.

TLC have officially returned! The surviving members of the iconic group invite listeners to journey ‘Way Back’ with them on the lead single from their final album.

Financed by fans following a successful Kickstarter campaign, the LP (which is exec produced by Ron Fair) is set for a June 30th release.

Snoop Dogg joins TBoz and Chilli on the breezy song, which prescribes the right amount of warm nostalgia as we head into the summer months.

Take a listen to the Cali-coated track below…

We’re pleasantly surprised. This sounds like a bop.

On mainstream formats, it’ll no doubt have an uphill battle against ageism and politics of other sorts. But, there’s no reason this can’t be a hit with the adult contemporary audience – at the very least.

More broadly, it serves as a solid indicator that the LP will deliver decent material.

For those who contributed, it sounding like money well spent. Thus far.

Readers of That Grape Juice know what avid music lovers we are – especially of hits past.

So, just as our retrospective features ‘From the Vault’ and ‘TGJ Replay’ allow us the chance to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday of one artist, our newest feature Chart Rewind – a variation of our current Retro Rewind assay – accedes salutes to an entire era of music history.  This week we’ll reflect on ‘No Scrubs’ – the 1999 comeback hit of R&B super girl group TLC.

The first single from their third studio album, ‘FanMail’ [read our full ode to it by clicking here], the tune – written by fellow girl group Xscape‘s Kandi Burruss and Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, came as a departure for the ladies as it was the first time group member Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas sang lead vocals solely.  The departure was apparently quite welcomed as, just weeks after its release, the ‘Scrubs’ shot to #1 and remained there for four weeks.  Relieving the year’s other big comeback story, Cher, of her #1 run with her song ‘Believe,’ history would have it ‘Scrubs’ would be the group’s third run atop the Hot 100 [correction:  a previous version of this post incorrectly indicated it was TLC’s last run].

TLC made headlines last year when surviving members T-Boz and Chilli launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund their fifth and final album.

Rather than be ridiculed, the group received support from fans – some even of the celebrity persuasion. Indeed, Katy Perry made a much publisized donation of $5,000.

In the time since, news surrounding the project has been noticeably scarce.

However, the ladies haven’t been twiddling their thumbs idly; they’ve been recording.

And now it appears that they’re gearing up to release new material.

Moments ago, Apple Music snippets of two tracks – ‘Joy Ride’ and ‘Haters’ – surfaced.
