TLC Kickstarter Album Set For June Release

Published: Tuesday 28th Feb 2017 by Nehemiah

Back in January 2015, TLC‘s T-Boz and Chilli launched a much discussed Kickstarter campaign in hopes of getting fans to fund the group’s fifth and final studio album.

The plan worked, with supporters – including Katy Perry – helping the ladies raise $430,255 – a number that surpasses their goal of $150,000.

Now, two years removed from the campaign, the ladies have come from the shadows to reveal an anticipated June release.

Days after the 25th anniversary of the trio’s debut album ‘Ooooooohhh… On the TLC Tip,’ the group’s current manager Bill Diggins released the following statement via their Kickstarter page…

‘On behalf of TLC and myself I want to express our most sincere thanks for your patience on waiting for the album. I am thrilled to let you know that the album is tentatively scheduled to be released at the end of June and you will receive your advance album prior to that. We are working out the official date in the next couple of weeks and once it is final we will notify you.

This album could not have happened without your support and your confidence in TLC has inspired us greatly to make the best album possible. We would have loved to have delivered this album sooner to you but we are confident that you will agree that it was worth the wait when you hear it. The pursuit of excellence is never an easy task and always takes longer than expected.

Let me explain why this album has taken longer than expected. When we decided to do the album it was based on a number of emotional decisions and one of the biggest was how you inspired Tboz and Chilli by your emails and texts asking them to do another album. At the time we had no music, no producers, no writers, and a few ideas. We also were in the middle of rehearsal’s for TLC’s first arena tour since The FanMail Tour and therefore on the road for most of the year. It was very important to establish TLC’s touring credibility and as most of you saw TLC live I am sure you agreed that we accomplished that goal. It took a lot more time to coordinate schedules with writers, TLC’s executive producer Ron Fair and recording sessions than anticipated. I could go on in more detail to explain how TLC’s touring, schedule, writing schedule and producing schedule was delayed but the simple fact is that Tboz & Chilli were inspired to make a record that they could be proud of and they would not settle for less and sometimes you just cannot rush art. They demanded of themselves a record that would stand up to the great body of work created in the past and that you would be proud of; because your belief and support is the greatest form of love and we want you to be proud.

Sometimes in life we take for granted what is given to us, but in this case there is no lack of thankfulness; for without you this album would never have happened. When you see TLC out promoting the album, performing on television and you are listening to the songs on radio; you should feel proud to say to your friends that you made this happen. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!

Our management team will be notifying you privately to discuss any outstanding rewards that are due to you. We will also set up a dedicated email that you can write to directly for any problems or concerns about rewards. Apologies about the wait…….’

Exciting!

TLC has secured their place as one of the greatest and best-selling girl groups in history. Though the album is long overdue, we respect their decision to take their time preparing the best album they can; one that’ll be be satisfactory to fans.

It’ll be interesting to hear what Left Eye verses they can uncover and how they integrate her throughout the album.

But the question remains: Are folk, at large, still interested in a TLC album?

Your thoughts?

      • Chris February 28, 2017

If you didn’t donate then you wouldn’t receive the updates to know what was going on. Stfu! TLC is legendary and the best selling American girl group ever. And you will deal

Radiom DJs wont play your song after 40s. Sorry ladies…it will b a tragic flop like Pariah’s ‘Elusive Nightclub Singer’ album. ?

  2. Justafan February 28, 2017

I hope Haters and that other cheaply produced track they recently released aren’t included!!!

    • TheLittleTings February 28, 2017

“Joyride” was actually a really nice track , it had that classic TLC feel to it .
Those songs were never released in the states .
“Haters” didn’t sound any different then any other Top40 pop song . Very Taylor-ish ..

Come thru T-Boz and Chilli (rest in paradise, Left-Eye)!!!

I’m still very uncomfortable with the kickstarter funding approach, but I do wish them well.

  6. Cake Like Gaga February 28, 2017

    it will flop..for sure. 😆

    • DTG February 28, 2017

The only thing we know for sure is that ARTPOP and JOANNE flopped. And that BORN THIS WAY underperformed. That leaves just one album from that Madonna-copycat that was genuinely successful, and even it pales in comparison to other successful albums of the past 10-20 years. Get back at me when ANY Gaga album sells as much as TLC’s first 3.

      • Angela Cheng February 28, 2017

She is right, you cant emulate your success in the 90s. You guys should have done a sitcom ..take with Mariah with you! ??‍♀️??‍♀️??‍♀️

      • MsThing485 February 28, 2017

When did TLC say that they were looking to emulate their 90s success? Some artists DO actually make music for the enjoyment of making music, and aren’t necessarily motivated by the thought of winning over callow little kids like you who need Billboard, VEVO or a Twitter trending tag to validate their tastes.

      • Linear February 28, 2017

Eh. Why would they need to “emulate” success they already had? What they already accomplished will remain in tact, regardless of if this new album is a success or not. So…what are you talking about?!

      • Electrikblue March 1, 2017

Joanne definitely didn’t Flop! You’re silly Gaga’s whole tour is sold the fcuk out

  7. Jason February 28, 2017

I’m rooting for them! Prove these haters wrong!!

  8. MusicLife February 28, 2017

It has taken them too long. Like it’s 2017 not 1997 it should not have taken this long to record an album and release it. This better be worth the wait.

I will believe it when I see it and hear it.

    • TheLittleTings February 28, 2017

When the kickstarter started they were on tour with NKOTB , after it ended they started the writing process , then they went into the studio .. they also aren’t signed ! so they had to make connections for the distribution deal etc .. also mixing and mastering and clearing samples . That stuff takes time , especially with them also trying to finish the rewards etc .. they also have to come up with a promotion plan, video concepts and single choices … this is their LAST album . I’m pretty sure they wanna go out with a bang !

  9. TheLittleTings February 28, 2017

Ugh ! I love these girls so much ! I can’t wait until the album is released , they deserve all the success in the world .
Man I wish Left Eye was here .

  10. Mark111 February 28, 2017

    I’m buying for sure.

  11. Meteorite February 28, 2017

I wonder if they mixed any of Left Eyes music from Supernova on to this album?

  12. BeyHiveMilitant February 28, 2017

Nah… dont waste your time. Yall will end up like Mariah and Janet’s tragic comeback flop sales at discounted bin, b******!

  13. Danny Bey February 28, 2017

T-Boz said there won’t be any Left Eye verses for this album.

  14. @ASAPicon February 28, 2017

They better serve up edgy, masterfully produced and sounding material that is RnB/Pop heavy, And unique to the TLC brand…. No funny shitt! And then I will be here for it, But those buzz singles a while back were NAWT it hawny!

  15. WNow at youfr best game way tuesidnz March 2, 2017
