Britney Spears Readies Circus Tour
Next week sees the start of Britney Spears’ ‘comeback’ tour, and by most accounts it’ll be a spectacle to remember. Check out the report via Extra below:

Move over Barnum & Bailey — Britney Spears is the new ringmaster in town, and her “Circus” tour is going to be more than light tricks and puffs of smoke!

The pop princess is going to be sawed in half and disappear into thin air — and those are just two of the tricks Spears has up her sleeve for her upcoming tour, “The Circus Starring Britney Spears.”

“Right away, she got into the boxes and into the magic contraptions to learn the stuff, and she’s so excited about this tour and all the elements that are in it,” illusionist-comedian Ed Alonzo dished to E! news. Alonzo has revealed that he will be performing onstage with Brit during her concerts, where the “Womanizer” singer will serve as the magician’s assistant.

Ed continued, “We’ll be doing a little dissection, transposition, a vanish, an appearance — and if I do a trick, she doesn’t just hold the props, she’s actually getting inside the big boxes or I am slicing her up.”

Alonzo also dished that Spears has a knack for magic! “I made [the tricks] really easy for her, but there are some complicated things that she is doing that you would think a contortionist would have to do, or a trained magician’s assistant,” he said, “but because she’s a dancer, it really makes sense to put her in the magic, and it works and she’s really, really good at it.”

Britney will also perform some of her hits that helped her skyrocket to the top of the charts. Ed confessed that the show would feature “the best music of Britney that people have loved over the years and, of course, brand-new favorites from the new album.”

“The Circus Starring Britney Spears” kicks off March 3 in New Orleans.

Like most, I’m hoping all works out for Britney after all the craziness of the last few years. That said, here’s hoping her performances are saying more than the nonsense she was serving up on her ‘Circus’ promo spots.
Tidbit: Britney’s video for brand new single ‘If You Seek Amy’ is set to premiere on March 2nd.
Are you anticipating Britney’s ‘Circus’ tour?
Ciara stopped by BET’s 106 & Park yesterday to talk about her new project ‘Fantasy Ride’ project. Among the discussed, the 22 year old spoke on her collaboration with embattled label mate Chris Brown, a track called ‘Turntables’ and whether it will remain on the album, the LP’s release date (please believe it has changed again!) and more. Peep part 1 above and part 2 of the interview below:
Though Ms. Harris always comes across pretty well in interviews, these constant push-backs of her album don’t bode all that well. Hopefully everything works out with the record; for what it’s worth the radio reception of her and Justin’s collabo ‘Love, Sex, Magic’ has been pretty good.
Tidbit: I guess Chris Brown won’t be making it onto the album. Though I’m awaiting the full details in the ‘ChRihanna’ drama, it really is seeming like he’s done – his own label yanking him off his label mates album.

Superstar Beyonce took to the stage at last night’s 81st Annual Academy Awards to perform a rousing medley called ‘Musicals Are Back’ alongside Hugh Jackman, Dominic Cooper, Amanda Seyfried, and High School Music stars Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens.
The Baz Lurhmann produced performance was awesome (even though mimed – it’s understandable)! Beyonce really shone and it was great seeing her give renditions of songs we’ve yet to hear her put a spin on such as ‘Lady Mamalade’.
What do you think of the performance?

We posted the clip of R&B star Brandy performing at the Pistons v Grizzlies NBA game earlier this week. Since then, the videos of the 30 year old’s performance of ‘Right Here’ and ‘Long Distance’ have surfaced. You can check them out below:

Right Here (Departed)

Long Distance

Great performances! I’m really loving how she switches the song(s) up ever-so subtlety each to she performs.
‘Human’ is out now!

Police Pic: Rihanna After Chris Brown 'Assault'
TMZ have obtained a police pic taken of Rihanna following her ‘assault’ by boyfriend Chris Brown. And yes, it really is Rihanna (peep the shoulder tattoo on the right).
WOW! Shocking stuff, no doubt. No matter what spin is put on this, I really do see this being curtains for Chris Brown’s career – whatever his reasoning. By the time this pic makes the rounds (which I know it is as I type), there will be little question as to the severity of the ‘attack’.

Sullivan 'Unfazed' By Grammy's Snub
Despite being nominated for 5 awards at this year’s Grammy’s, the event passed with Jazmine Sullivan walking away without any. Speaking to Billboard, the 22 year old Atlantic Records artist doesn’t seem to be letting it get to her:
With “Lions, Tigers & Bears” — the third single from her debut album, “Fearless” — climbing the charts, going 0-for-5 at this year’s Grammy Awards did not phase Jazmine Sullivan.
“I’m not at all upset,” the Philadelphia singer and songwriter, who was nominated for best new artist and in five R&B categories, tells Billboard.com. “Everybody who was nominated pretty much was deserving. I have a long career ahead of me, so this is not my last Grammys, hopefully.”
Sullivan is looking forward to conquering another world this year, however — acting. In April she’ll fly to Prague to start shooting “Red Tails,” director Anthony Hemingway’s Tuskegee Airmen story. “I play a singer who entertains soldiers,” reports Sullivan, who will appear alongside current touring partner Ne-Yo. “I’m really just entertainment for them, but I kind of get a little relationship going with one of them. So that’s very exciting.
“I used to act when I was younger, in little plays,” adds Sullivan, who attended Philadelphia’s Creative and Performing Arts high school. “It never was really a passion of mine. It’s just something I did and I could do. Anything where I can be creative, I like to do.”
Sullivan also has a TV project brewing but says she can’t reveal details yet.
Her humbleness is quite endearing. Though, I must say, I’m still baffled at how she was completely shut out from the Grammy’s – her ‘Fearless’ album is quite an album. Here’s hoping her future is as bright as it’s looking to be moving forward.

Kanye: 'I Am The End All, Be All Of Music'
Peep Kanye West on the cover of the latest issue of Details Magazine. As ever with Kanye, the article had many an interesting quote:
Kanye on his music career:

“There’s nothing more to be said about music. I’m the f–king end-all, be-all of music. I know what I’m doing. I did ‘808s’ in three weeks. I got it. It’s on cruise control … Man, we talked about music for God knows how long! Now let’s talk about how my f–king sweater didn’t come back right from Korea. That’s what’s interesting me.”

Kanye on his image:

“I had a style that was over-the-top, overly expressive, and it forced me to just lay back and be a little cooler. One of the problems with being a bubbling source of creativity — it’s like I’m bubbling in a laboratory, and if you don’t put a cap on it, at one point it will, like, break the glass. If I can hone that … then I have, like, nuclear power, like a superhero, like Cyclops when he puts his glasses on.”

Kanye on the woman he wants to marry:

“What I feel like — ’cause I wanna be married, of course—I feel like the type of girl I would be with is a fellow superhero. So we get that ‘already flying and now we’re just flying together’ thing.”

Kanye on the word ‘Gay’:

“Titles are very important. I like to embody titles, y’know, or words that have negative connotations, and explain why that’s good. Take the word gay — like, in hip-hop, that’s a negative thing, right? But in the past two, three years, all the gay people I’ve encountered have been, like, really, really, extremely dope. Y’know, I haven’t, like, gone to a gay bar, nor do I ever plan to. But where I would talk to a gay person — the conversation would be mostly around, like, art or design — it’d be really dope. From a design standpoint, kids’ll say, ‘Dude, those pants are gay.’ But if it’s, like, good, good, good fashion-level, design-level stuff, where it’s on a higher level than the average commercial design stuff, it’s, like, gay people that do that. I think that should be said as a compliment. Like, ‘Dude, that’s so good it’s almost … gay.’”

As with most things Kanye has to say, there’s mix-mash of ego, self-indulgence, wackiness and above all – truth.

With Ciara’s ‘Fantasy Ride’ LP now affirmatively set for a April 7th release, more new material from the record continues to surface; the latest being ‘I’m A G’. Produced by Danja (Britney Spears, Missy Elliott, Danity Kane), the club banger of cut definitely sounds like a winner.
Listening to this, though, has me wondering why it wasn’t lined up as the album’s lead single, after the epic fails of ‘Go Girl’ and ‘Never Ever’, the latter of which is struggling to make an impact on the Billboard chart as I type.  ‘Promise’ aside, CiCi is renown for her uptempo cuts, so straying away from that, seemingly on purpose, with material that just isn’t up to par, is really baffling to me. Here’s hoping things kinda work themselves out with this project.

Alexandra Signs $3Million US Deal
Following in the footsteps Leona Lewis, X Factor winner Alexandra Burke has reportedly signed a record deal in the US worth £3Million. Check out the report below:

Alexandra Burke has reportedly signed a US record deal with Epic worth £3 million.

The X Factor winner was picked up by the label for a five-album contract as a result of the success of her ‘Hallelujah’ single, The Sun reports.

An industry insider said: “Epic think Alexandra can follow in Leona’s footsteps.

“The US market loves women with big voices – and Alex certainly has that. If she comes close to Leona’s success it will be a job well done.”

It is claimed that Epic is planning a similar launch strategy to the one used by parent company Sony to promote Leona Lewis.

Earlier this week, Burke said that watching Coldplay’s success at the Grammys has made her more determined to crack America. {Source}

I must say, I’m particularly happy for Alexandra. With all the talk of her being ‘the’ next big worldwide star, a US deal really was a necessity. With Leona signing with J Records (also under the Sony Music umbrella with Epic), it really seems that they are following a similar template with Alex – a fact also made evident with the label’s choice to take time with the recording of the album (which is due in November). Working with the top US producers, stylists etc also seems an inevitability as the £3Million is what will be used to both make and market the album, as well as carving out an image for Alex. Exciting stuff.

LeToya Takes It To Next Level With 'Not Anymore' Video
Having initially been a little underwhelmed by LeToya’s ‘Not Anymore’, the Ne-Yo penned lead single from her sophomore album ‘Lady Love’ (due April 7th), the song has certainly grown on me. It looks set to further remain a mainstay on my play-list, when looking at what its video will be serving up. Check out the report via Rap-up.com:

LeToya Luckett will shoot a video for “Not Anymore” on Friday in Los Angeles. The mini-movie will be directed by Bryan Barber (OutKast, The Game) and is the first single off the 27-year-old’s sophomore album Lady Love.

The treatment calls for nothing you’ve seen from the R&B songstress before, conceptually and visually. The video will be set in the early 1960s, but will have a modern feel similar to Barber’s video for Christina Aguilera’s “Ain’t No Other Man.”

Taking place on an old revival tour bus and “American Bandstand”-like stage, LeToya is the newest addition to a Motown record label and is burning up the charts, eventually moving on from the man who broke her heart and reveling in the ultimate revenge—success.

With the song being a grower – and not as instantly likable as, perhaps, required – a killer video is just what is needed. I’m particularly anticipating this one, as some Barber’s previous work have really been awesome.

Your thoughts?

Peep Ciara in the video for Enrique Iglesias’ new single ‘Takin’ Back My Love’, which she features on. As much as I was on the fence about the song, the Ray Kay directed clip has really warmed me to the track. With music video innovation seemingly being something of the past, it’s essential these days for the video to at least capture the essence of the song, which this definitely does. Cici’s looking on-point too. Good stuff.
What do you think of the video?
