Jive Records Drops Kelis

Published: Saturday 27th Oct 2007 by Sam
It has been confirmed that singer Kelis has been released her record label Jive. The ‘Milkshake’ singer saw the most success with her 2003 album ‘Tasty’, however her most recent effort, 2006’s ‘Kelis Was Here’, didn’t fare too well on the charts. “She’s a different kind of artist — very image and style-driven. It’s either something you get or you don’t” said her manager Jeff Rabhan. He went on to confirm that she is currently shopping around for a new ‘non-traditional’ deal. {Source}

I’m surprised, yet not at the same time. Despite her last album pretty much tanking, she still released three singles (and videos) and toured as well. – so I assumed the label support was there. Here’s hoping she gets picked up by another label soon.

Your thoughts?

    probably because she caught that case and may face jail time. oh well she got nas so it’s not like she broke. she’ll just go independent and her true fans will still support her.

    Honestly, I knew the label wuz gonna drop her, Becuz her last album was garbage, and a label will drop u if your album wuz somewhat like K-feds. The album sales were terrible, almost as bad as Kelly’s. She couldn’t really sing anyway, so, no harm done.

    This is really bad news for the agonizing music industry. If sombody as exceptionally talented as Kelis gets drop then the music industry is dead… that trash products as Britney get the attention whilo innovators and superb artists as Kelis get the sack is a real SHAME, SHAME on the american public… i’n really saddened

    yall who say she was bad or good think about who buys the albums the people and people get what they like and not what they dont if 100,000 people like so and so they will buy so and so ‘a slbum if the dont then it wont sell and the majority may not like so and so. so “so and so does not sell, its about what the majority likes not the minority thats just plain business logic

    I actually thought her CD was just as good as Beyonce’s. And way better than any other recent female artist except Chrisette Michele’s.
