The second week of X Factor 2008 live shows aired last night here in the UK. Check out my 2 Pence on the Big Band themed week below: {For those unfamiliar with the show; The X Factor is the UK’s version of American Idol – with a twist in that groups and over 25’s are eligible to enter. The show also birthed the career of a certain Leona Lewis}
I’m not really a fan of the Big Band theme, however, as usual, certain acts stood out. Check out my favourite performances by Alexandra and Rachel below, as well as the ensemble performance of ‘Hero’:
Alexandra Burke – Candyman
Rachel Hyton – Feeling Good
Final 12 – Hero
Great to see Rachel giving the performance we all knew she was capable of. I must say, Alexandra did an awesome job. I’m really hoping she wins it.

SAM!!! u only put two performances up. nearly everyone was incredible, but LAURA was the best IMO, she totally nailed the song and gt the first standing ovation of the night, please put her performance up!!!!
I totally agree with the first anonymous comment! Im soo sorry but Alexandra’s adlibs were exactly the same as Aguilera’s, so it was like hearin Candyman all over again, from someone else. No individuality whatsoever in the song! But laura and rachel, they destroyed it, they were great!! I like Alexandra but this performance was a no no for me.

x factor is killing it this year…simon must be lovinn it..all the hype/success of this year!! really its cos of cheryl cole…shes actually too hot..i love her
I liked Alexandra’s performance. Rachel performance was great also. It’s about time they gave her a good song too. Laura is alright but something about her is a little off to me. She has that amy whinehouse thing going on about her so I don’t see what is the big thing about her. Oh well I must admit there are some strong singers this year in the competition. Like I said earlier if Alex don’t win somebody will pick her up. She is that nice.
Sam dont up load Laura’s performance she has a voice but half the time u cant understand what the hell she is singing because she sings in hippo
how comes ruth and daniel didnt sing in the hero bit, thats what i want to know!
ALEX, BETTER BLOODY WIN, I DIDN’T LIKE HER COVERING CANDYMAN THOUGH, OUT ALL THE CHRISTINA SONGS, SHE DOES THAT ONE, WHY??
AS FOR LAURA, LAURA, NOTHING SPECIAL ABOUT HER, FOR ONCE SHE HAD ONE VOICE DURING HER PERFORMANCE, HOWEVER I THINK LAURA WAS FANTASTIC ON HERO, ALONG WITH ALEX, THEY ALL DID A GOOD JOB BUT THOSE TWO GIRLS STOOD OUT FOR ME.
DIANA IS SO ANNOYING, WEAKEST FEMALE VOCALS, JUST COZ SHE’S BLONDE AND THIS LITTLE GIRL, SHE’S THE FAV TO BLOODY WIN.
IF THAT S*** WINS SHE WILL NEVER LAST AND BECOME INTERNATIONAL LIKE LEONA. THE BRITISH PUBLIC CAN BE SO F****** DUMB SOMETIMES
Although don’t think Diana is as good as some of the others she does have the potential to be international. I’m still rooting for Alex, she has been the most consistent and looks damm good! I’m liking Laura less and less as the weeks go by. This week i couldn’t understand a word of the versus she was singing, also if you listen to her first audition i think that was the real singing, now i don’t know what’s happening
Alex danced and sung Great live no wavering she brought it to the table and showed personality woooooo.
Rachel can blow and all she needs is an complete performance now her energy is GREAT!!!
Very strong week this week and i must say the routine side and the slightly worse performers overall(Daniel & Scott) saved JLS.
Laura is great and she and Amy have no similarites except the hair. Laura is more jazzy(listen to every end of the songs she done u hear the do-ba-bees…) and Amy Winehouse is more soul.
Ruth done well and Diana is marketable and consistant..
Austin was the main man out of the bunch and he'll be top 5.
Personnally rooting for Laura, Alex, Rachel or Austin to win this thing – Laura expecially. This years X-Factor is killing it!!
Diana- Really needa to put her other hand down when she singing and stop coming out all bare footed lol
Alex and Rachel are easily the best. They are so far above the rest on this show. They SHOULD be final two but I'm 100% sure they won't. In fact I doubt either of them will be in the final two. One of them will leave early and the other will make the final four. The British public won't vote for either of them to win even though they are the best in the competition.
Once again Alex has another amazing performance. This girl is so versatile. She can do everything and deliver a faultless performance everytime.
Rachel was crazy on Saturday. Finally showed the world how brilliant she is. Her voice is stunning. She was the best on the night (just edging out Alex).
As for Laura, this was a average performance. She SUCKED during the low parts. Didn't have a clue what she was saying. It was so easy to tell that she was building up to the big notes at the end. The big notes were great, but it was at the expense of the first 3/4 of the song.
I think this week Ruth did a great job. She was the third best on the night. Plus Ruth's body looked slamming. Great dress with amazing curves.
Diana is annoying. Everything seems contrived. The stupid hand movements the bare feet. It comes across as fake. Her sound isn't unique. It's like a bad mix of Adele, Norah Jones and some other quirky singers. Nothing special in that. I'm glad she is now going by the name of Diana "The Hand" Vickers. That cracked me up when I saw it on youtube. Her performance was dull and her pronunciation of words is just terrible. So grating. Unfortunately she'll probably win, or at least finish 2nd to Laura.
Once again, the final two SHOULD be Alex & Rachel. The are miles better than anyone else on this show!
As for Ruth and Daniel not being on during Heroes, the doors failed to open. Laura and Alex had to sing Ruth’s parts. Luckily the song was MIMED. I can’t like that performance for that reason. I can’t believe you guys thought that was live.
The only way Rachel got on the stage was that she ran all the way backstage and managed to get herself on the platform. Love Rachel!
