Even divas have awkward moments. In 2005 Mariah Carey was temporarily reunited with her 1st husband and mentor, Tommy Mottola, at a private industry party where she was introduced to his latest wife, Thalia.
Mottola married Thalia in the year 2000, a mere 2 years after the end of his tumultuous marriage to Carey. The music mogul, who once guided the careers of acts such as Celine Dion and Destiny’s Child as the head of Sony Music Entertainment, was accused of sabotaging Carey’s musical endeavours after her departure from the label by copying her songs and giving the products to Jennifer Lopez.

I feel the necessity to touch on this,
It is “sad and yet predictable” that people would feel the need to judge (which is no one’s right but the Lord’s) a singer and a vocalist by her weight, which, I might add has in years fluctuated consistently.
And what is more, is that no one much considers how severely thin she had been for a time in the early to mid-90s.
There are singers, and then there are entertainers, and sometimes a combination of most, mind you, this does not at all equate to equal parts!
Britney Spears is a singer, but she is not a singer to the word. She is an entertainer first and foremost. And this is something which can be considered with artists such as: Lady Gaga, Beyonce (who is a good singer, but a greater entertainer), Celine Dion (a greater singer than she is an entertainer, but still knows what entertaining is), and so on and so forth.
Mariah is a poor performer (by today’s standard, before it would have been fine if she just stood there, or even sat, but then the television sets were mostly still black and white), she never grew into an act, she practically went from demo tape to the arena stage, and as amazing as her voice remains, there has been loss, but the voice subsists regardless.
And the relationship with Mariah and Mottola? Why is it that record labels search for stars, the next thing? So they can exploit them. But this is understood, this is the agreement. Record labels absorb the revenue and rights while the “star” shines. But the life of a star is determined by the energy potential of the star. Motolla gave Mariah her start, but that was an eventuality. She already had ties to the music industry through her work she had done. It was only a matter of time before an executive would discover her (staying true with the star analogy). Through her successes Tommy secured his position for years.
But she won too! Because it’s not, “Who’s going to be the next big thing?” it’s, “Who’s going to be the next Mariah Carey?”
And people can say what they want to say, and remember: it’s when everyone wants to knock you off when you know you’re at the top. Or was it, “Mo money, mo problems!”
I do not know Mariah, but I have followed the artist’s trail, and she remains above the rest.
It is so interesting, I will say, that so many will rub her into the ground, as if they have the right to speak of her person. How can you “hate on” someone when you have no idea of who that person is?
In the end, Mariah is an amazing vocalist with a beautiful voice, she is a strong woman, she went against an industry which devours women unless they are firmly locked down and controlled, she is a woman who loves being a woman, and doesn’t hide it. Mariah is going to be a mother (how can you speak about a mother so harshly? Shame.), hard times have been laid bare (she may not be impeccably perfect as some of you), she is constantly being pulled apart, but she is still collected.
And for those who were talking about a certain individual being a high school drop out (who the Hell cares!) in my experience high school might have been a party, but it was such a waste of time!
