XTINA SHUT IT DONE.

That WHISTLE NOTE was just…BREATHTAKING. This had to be one of her best performances in years! I think this should definately silence every single naysayer who thought her voice was in decline! I myself doubted her ability to whistle anymore seeing as she hadn’t used the whistle register in God knows how many years, but when she hit that note just now, I was completly floored. Did not expect that note, or that showing. Her vocals sounded straight out of her debut era!! Truly, truly, truly spectacular.

But credit to Martina, Florence and ESPECIALLY Jen and Yolanda. They ALL brought their A Game and delivered a phenomenal performance, but Xtina stood out for all the right reasons. She had a lot to prove tonight and she certainly delivered. Cannot get over that whistle note, I TOTALLY thought she’d lost her ability to sing in that register!

All that said, GaGa was poor. She got OWNED, SCHOOLED AND SLAYED by these women. This is what happens when someone who claimed to be one of the greatest voices of her generation meets THE greatest voice of her generation. Xtina destroyed her!!

I was wrong about Christina, because I was certain that she would screw up especially after the Superbowl fiasco. She redeemed herself tonight, and did a great job. A very nice vocal performance, however, Yolanda Adams is the winner in this and she shut them all down during the final performance.

What do you think of Minnie Riperton? She brought it with the whistle in the 70′s, and she has the greatest enunciation for the whistle register ever. I couldn’t believe what I heard, Minnie was truly AMAZING. She was able to sing in her whistle register for a long period of time. I would love to see Mariah do that, but I don’t think she’s done enough practice.

I think Minnie is fantastic! You can tell Mariah was inspired by her and I’m glad because if there’s anyone who knows how to control so properly the whistle register is Mrs. Ripperton. I’ve seen loads of her vids on YouTube and Chante’s as well, but I’m not very impressed with the last one; she can certainly hit the notes but she lacks control and power. Just my 2 cents. Currently none can whistle like Mariah, she’s absolutely superb.

The Aretha Franklin Tribute was wack and dull. Chritstina’s vocals are strained and the only good part was when she hit that falsetto note. J-Hud looked out of place when everyone was doing those runs at the end. Everyone else sounded a mess. I hate to say this, but maybe they should have gotten Beyonce in there. I would’ve loved to see Monica, Keyshia Cole, Melanie Fiona, Chaka Khan, and definitely my favorite singer, Amy Winehouse pay tribute to the queen. How about Natasha Bedingfield?

Janelle gave her all in her performance. What I love about her performances is that they are so lively and upbeat. She’s the best performer of our generation. She has a wonderful voice, but she sounds better when she sings lower. I didn’t care for Bruno Mars until I saw an interview of him and Janelle Monae on the Grammy website. I’m not a fan of his music but I am of him. He seems so cool and down to earth, too bad he has a drug addiction. He’s very talented. I loved the way he played the drums.

Um, CB was rehearsing and filming a music video. Sometimes in life, you have to choose what is more important to you. I’m guessing that Chris is focused on his career, not just getting accolades. I’m pretty sure it’s great to win and everything, but if you love what you do, not winning and not performing at the Grammys shouldn’t stop you from living your dreams and doing what you love and I think that is the place that Chris is in right now. And I don’t understand why people always think that people are bitter when they really are just posting their thoughts.

Spalding has recorded three albums Junjo (2006), Esperanza (2008) and “Chamber Music Society” (2010).

Now how is that Best New Artist? She has been in the game since early 2000s just because her work is just now noticed doesn’t mean she is new. Like I said that would be like nominating Trey Songz for Best New Artist after Ready came out. It makes no sense. She might be talented I never really heard her work but her work should have been in another catergory. I don’t agree with someone being “Best New Artist” when they aren’t a “New Artist” in fact she has been on her grind with her career longer than some of the people in the category. There for I think it should have went to someone else.

I really don’t know of any major critics who considered it an upset. Could Gaga have won the award, perhaps, but Taylor winning wasn’t “an upset,” she was one of the contenders, and at the end of the day, musicianship tends to win these awards over synthesized pop, which is which is what The Fame was. There wasn’t anything revolutionary about that album, but when a country album, which largely plays to niche audiences achieves the kind of acclaim and crossover success that Fearless does, you can’t call it an upset.

Oh and to the person who responded to me earlier obviously this does make it a popularity contest. Why would this young lady have multiple albums out but isn’t consider for Best New Artist until the public pays her some sort of attention? Why wasn’t she considered back in 06? She wasn’t considered until she started becoming a bit popular. So somewhere in the Grammys descions it is ALWAYS a popularity thing so don’t tell me it’s not abut popularity. Becuase if it wasn’t she would have been Best New Artist years ago not when she just started to become popular.

So this brings us back to Best New Artist and how that category in my opinion makes no sense. To be Best New Artist you don’t have to be New but you have to have gained enough popularity. The whole category is just a fail and the rules need to change. If this is the case I expect ALOT of under rated Artist to begin to be nominated in this category next year.

well I didn’t watch the Grammy’s but from the looks of performances maybe it was a tad bit boring. Yes, because it’s electropop. Country albums tend to have live musicians in studio, and Taylor didn’t just either write or co-write all the songs on Fearless, she accompanied most of them on guitar herself. Gaga wasn’t playing instruments on the Fame, she had producers like Red One and Fusari on the tracks. From the gate, Fearless was better reviewed than the Fame, and Fearless was the best selling album of 2009. Taylor’s appeal also crosses age limits. More of the almighty SuBo demo is repping for Taylor, than Gaga. I could understand pressed Gaga stans thinking she was robbed, but the better album won, for all the reasons I’ve stated throughout my comments on this thread.

In MY OPINION not ONE performance was bad. Everyone brought something new and special, and even though I had doubts, this year’s Grammys has been the most diverse yet. Only thing it lacked was more R&B and it still had a decent amount of that. I can’t believe anyone has anything negative to say? Some people faded into the background [Miranda Lambert, Mumford & Sons, Dr. Dre] but everyone brought something! Even Justin killed it, NSN is one of his songs with better quality & that story line was very touching. I loved every performance. This year’s Grammys defiantly proves everyone who says “Music is dead” wrong! Because, even if you don’t like a particular genre, they still showed why they’re where they are today. I enjoyed it, and wish every artist who participated more success and GROWTH! They all still have much more to prove, but still, so much beautiful talent.

I totally agree, too. It was so weird to me that he won THREE Grammys. Wake Up was good but not THAT great. I was surprised Esperanza Spalding won. That was a highlight, for sure.

Nobody had a horrible performance. The tribute was good, but Yolanda was on fire! Gaga was good, no fire shooting bras but her vocals were SO STRONG ( dancing and singing LIVE is not easy, evidenced by Usher’s latest performances). The Ailey look at the end of performance was nice. Janelle monae is fantastic, BOB was good, Bruno was hoarse but that’s life.

Beiber performance, umm. Usher dominated that performance to me, I can’t even really remember what Beiber did. Ceelo I’ll always love, vocals great ,performance interesting, Gwyneth was surprisingly competent as a singer. Good for her.

I Love I need a Doctor, glad Skylar got to sing it, I thought maybe she’s be replaced because no one knows who she is. Bob Dillon and friends ( don’t know the names of the other 2 groups, liked the banjo player, he was giving me LIFE!) was really entertaining to me, they were cracking me up.

Mick Jagger was Mick. I thought Katy vocals were the best I’ve heard her singing them, whether people like her voice or not is opinion ( her fast vibratto gets on my nerves though)
Arcade Fire’s 1st performance was the weakest, the girl on the drums kinda creeps me out, don’t know why. The performance was all over the place. 2nd performance was better.

Rihanna vocals are good sometimes and then she sounds off but between her sickness and her twitter” battle” with that blogger, she sounded ok. I would like a little more consistency from her at times. Miranda Lambert is not as good of a singer as I remember, maybe nerves? Lady ANtebellums “tribute” to Teddy P was weak but they did well with the song (guy’s voice WAY stronger than the girls.)

Nobody was a fail but nobody was really a standout. I did love Janelle though.

-Aretha tribute was fabulous. All women did their thing. Jennifer was the one I didn´t like too much
- Gaga: the song was a dissapointment the other day but people are hilarious saying the performance was boring. The performance was amazing. Loved the choreo and the outfit, not too weird. I know Beyonce was taking notes so she can copy for her next release
- Janelle: I love Cold War, she did great
- Katy: grammys are not for you girl
- Rihanna: I don´t want to waste time

Great edition for the grammys. They fixed the last year´s disaster. I´m so happy with the winners. Eminem and Beiber not winning is great. ESOM over Love TWYL is great, Fantasia over Monica is great, Lady Ant. is good enough for Song and Record. I´m really happy a disaster didn´t happen again. The grammys are still the better awards. Last year was only a black hole (I hope)

Aretha’s Frankilin Tribute – It was Nice.

Katie Perry – She did better than i expected. She has been working on her vocals. Very Impressive Ms.Katy. I love that song Just like the movies.

Janelle- It was ok

Rihanna did that same routine at the American Music Awards. Nothing different. Same dance, same terrible singing. There was nothing hot about her performance. The audience was not even into her.
Now if you want to talk about slay, Eminem performance with Skylar Grey & Dr Dre; ‘I Need A Doctor” was GREAT! Bruno Mars, B.O.B and Jonelle Monae performance was also Great! They got a standing ovation. Can’t forget about the Aretha Franklin tribute. Those sistas did their thang!
