Pressing on post her stint with the Pussycat Dolls, Melody Thornton is currently hard at work on her debut solo album. Taking a break from her busy recording schedule, the 26 year old shot a new buzz clip, which sees her cover Lady GaGa‘s ‘Born This Way’, Katy Perry‘s ‘Firework’, and Rihanna’s hook on Kanye West‘s ‘All of the Lights’ in a unique mash-up.

Given Melody powerhouse vocals, she’s ironically pre-disposed to being scrutinised more than the acts she’s covering. Hence, though solid, one can’t help but pick up on the few sharp notes, as well points where she was flat-out shouting.
Still, as unnecessarily extra as this may sound; Thornton’s flaws ultimately become strengths when positioned in the context of her backstory. Indeed, each time I hear her, I hear a caged voice ready to soar (perhaps a touch too ready, hence the over-singing).
Whatever the case, it’s great to see Ms. Thornton out on her grind. Here’s hoping it pays off.

She has a nice voice but she needs to stop yelling. Actually when she sings low it is superb, but then it feels like she cannot help but start shouting to show her voice. Not everyone is a Xtina Aguilera. She needs to understand what are her strenghts and focus on ‘em.

This was exhausting. She’s just loud and pitchy and off key and I’m sure that comes from her immaturity. All that noise mad me a little mad at her! If she sung in a lower register (one than she can manage to stay on top of) it would have been way more pleasurable. She’s not the Beyonce Aguilera she think she is in her head.
It’s funny that she did a mash up of all these songs. I thought that most of the songs released since the end of last year all sound alike and feel like one long record (with the exception of kanye’s AOTL).

She sounded really good singing BTW (aside from a couple of off key moments), however she was yelling way too much singing Firework and AOTL. She was way out of her range and after every phrase, she does a run to try and emphasize on her voice which I think is a common mistake among really anxious singers. She has IMMENSE potential to be a really good singer, but she won’t make it in this business. She doesn’t have IT. But the girl can sing, she just needs a good vocal coach to guide her with those simple mistakes which can be easily fixed if she’s willing. But I do think she’s>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Nicole Shitsinger.

She did over do it. & I did hear the sharp & flat parts. But, the thing is she has the “power”, “voice” & “range” to be able to do so. Most “singers” out today couldn’t even touch notes like that, at all. So she is hills ahead of them. People can’t say “She can’t sing” or she has a “weak voice.” This show kill all those notions. She makes her vocal mistakes, but she will still shit on 95% of your fave artist vocally. Love her

Don’t discredit her vocally if you haven’t seen her other vocal showing which are flawless, her “National Anthem”, singing “God Bless America”, Christina Aguilera’s “Hurt”, “Feeling Good.” She is a amazing vocalist, she’s just off & on as far as her control consistency .

Either you like her tone or you don’t, I can see how this can make peoples ears bleed but she can “sing” although she should back up off the runs a bit. Lots of runs and hollering does not equal singing or Sanging!

Um….this was not that good. She was doing waaayyy too much screaming and not enough singing. She is like one of those people who feels she has to prove she can sing by doing a bunch on unecessary runs.

She is so pretty and seems so nice. I think she is one of those girls who people don’t have the heart to tell her she can’t really sing all that well. I won’t shade, her but I am not gonna sit up here & say that I am wishing her well either cause that would be a damn lie. Truth is, I doubt she will ever really make it, she is just like so many other mediocre female singers. There are only a handful of pretty girls with weak voices that make it, I don’t think she will be one of them.
