I admit teenage dream and E.T. were the best katy perry pop songs of the year but TGIF and california girls sucked horribly. I like katy’s personality but she’s just completely random to me. Katy is sorta gimmicky. She started out as christian music with blond hair. The pure innocent sweet girl from next door. Tell me why all the sudden she goes from that to I kissed a girl with a completely different image. Not saying that’s bad but it seems fishy and she seems more like an opportunist in the industry that anything. Not saying rihanna is that great either but her music is a lot better and she’s been influenced by pop/r&b from the beginning with small tweaks to make her as big as she is today. Katy’s transformation seemed more unatural and drastic. IMO.

My point: Do you think it was really possible that Michael Jackson’s Dirty Diana (the 5th #1 off Bad) really sold enough to chart at #1, nine months after the Bad album had been released and after the album had sold millions of copies.

It’s ignorant to say that “ET” should not be considered a # 1 single because the SINGLE VERSION of the song had additional Kanye West verses.

They did not simply add Kanye West to the song, last minute to boost sales. Kanye West was announced as the songs collaborator to help make the song fresh and new for 2011. They released the Kanye-version when the single was released to radio, digital retailers, etc.

Just because AC and Hot AC stations played the original version (which IMO is much better than the remix) and it also accounted for some digital sales should have NO impact as to say it has credibility as a # 1 Hot 100 hit.

AS FOR “Last Friday Night” I’m glad it hit number 1. The remix may have been the labels last minute decision, but hell, the song deserved it in the first place. “Party Rock Anthem” had long overstayed its time @ # 1. Again I think the original song is better but hell if Missy hopped on it, and people were willing to purchase the song, LET IT BE number one. Damn!

I hope Katy and Capitol releases “Hummingbird Heartbeat” as the 6th official single! Listen to it, the people who loved “Teenage Dream,” the song, will hear how it is almost a “TD” Part II ! ! !

If NLTM were to be a 6th single, it would be released around late Setember or early October. And after Rolling in the Deep spent 7 weeks at #1 and Best Thing I Never Had cracked the top 20, I think a ballad might have a chance. I came to this site to get some urban music news and after reading some of the comments left here I am appalled at the lack of respect that people have for each other. Why in the world would anyone refer to Ciara, Rihanna, Beyonce, Madonna or the like as a bitch?! This has got to stop….I only hope that most of you who are using that crass language in regards to a person that you do not know personally, are in the teens. I have to believe that mature people can state their opinions without using language like that. In regards to Katy Perry I am happy for her. I do not own any of her music but I can’t knock her hustle. I mean she has to eat and support her family to right? I just don’t get the hatred for Katy, Beyonce, Ciara, Keri and whoever else is mentioned on this site. They are all in their own lane doing things that they love and getting paid for it. Do you know how long it can take for someone to so something they love and get paid for it? Either way I might not ever commment on this site again but I felt the need to say something right now…..I stan for good music period. Hell I listen to every type of music thats out ( rock, r&b, pop) it all depends on what mood I’m in. I will not listen to Adele if I’m headed to the club, I will listen to Beyonce if I’m in the mood for a lil fun and I’ll listen to Nas when I’m chillin. It all depends. I doubt many of you listen to your fav 24/7. I would find that hard to believe. Either way enjoy the last days of summer and try to respect one another. peace

Hmm….every blog I’ve read has had a high percentage of negative comments about this. I don’t think it’s hate. I think people are taking issue with the latest attempt by record execs to make a record. Which is remix and slash single prices time. I think that’s where the ire is coming from. I feel bad that Katy is being received as a singles artist. I actually think she makes good songs. But let’s be honest. The music industry is a running joke. I don’t care which artist people stan for on here. They’re puppets of a gimmicky, money obsessed industry which is making a mockery of true talent. LFN didn’t need to hit #1. It was fine at #2. And with this remix move, it sheds an unfair light on Katy. Who actually had excellent, more superior songs such as ET and Teenage Dream more deservedly hit the top. Personally, I’m tiring of the stans and this so and so snatched wigs era. A lot of people are. You know who snatched wigs? Madonna, MJ, Prince, Janet, people who made it to #1 on their own accord without payola or remixes. They are still snatching wigs off of 90% of these people everyone bandwagons, stans for and will do so. Why? Because they’re music stands the test of time.
